For all you fellow Chicago Cubs fans, you'll LOVE the fact that this U-Haul store is located on Waveland Avenue! Hey Chicago, whaddya say? Let's rent a U-Haul truck today! So I ended up renting a 15' truck for a day, and I have to say that of all the U-Haul locations I've rented from, I have now met the best U-Haul store owner ever in Karl (make sure you spell his name with a "K")! Be sure to ask him about van or truck availability, as well as to explain how much it will cost you per day AND cost per mile (depending on what vehicle you end up renting). In addition, be sure to also ask Karl about the "Take a box, Leave a box" program that he hopes to have in the future at this particular U-Haul location. The process of obtaining the 15' truck went very smoothly, and Karl even gave my buddy and me a free bottled of water each for our move! I mean, who does that anymore? Karl also included a helpful chart to let you know how much gas you'll need to put into the gas tank in order to get it back to the level the truck originally started with. The next morning, after I had returned the U-Haul truck, I saw the pride in cleanliness Karl has in his company when I saw him go to work wiping down the truck's dashboard and when he mentioned he would mop the entire floor of the truck's storage area afterward. Just FYI, for any future 15-foot truck renters, the gas needle took 10-15 minutes to go up from the 3/8 level to the 7/8 level I was supposed to fill the gas tank up to. All in all, Karl and his awesome customer service was the reason why I'm giving this U-Haul location 5/5 stars and the reason why I'm not going to rent a truck from anywhere else besides this U-Haul location if I ever need to move in Lake County again!

    I agree with the other review; this is a terrible company to do business with, and I do not…read morerecommend them. 1. I emailed them three times after making a reservation to ask questions. It's been two weeks since the first email and still no response. 2. Called to get answers. Even taking into account the pandemic, their wait times for a rep are outlandishly long. 3. I had asked if a truck could be easily navigated as the place looked narrow from Google maps. I should have trusted my instincts. It is a challenge for a truck - trees along the edges overhand the driveways, you have to loop around the find your unit, and if there is another truck parked to unload, no way you're getting through. Plus you cannot back a truck up to the unit to unload, you have to put the truck parallel to the unit, which adds distance to your carrying trip. 4. After three hours of unloading a 16 foot truck I find out the latch on my unit won't slide. Call for help (NO ONE is at the facility .. ever!) and after a long delay, and a long conversation, their solution is to have me move everything over to another unit as they cannot get out there for two days. I refuse, they offer no other solution (I wound up having a friend come over with tools to help me get it closed). 5. Asked to speak to a supervisor ... was called back two hours later by same rep who told me supervisor would not talk to me, and no credit would be given for my inconvenience. I set up the appt to have them put a lock on my unit so I could remove mine and then they could fix the latch and still have my stuff secured. I was told they'd email me the combination. 6. I get a call to my mobile (not the number I gave them to call me back on, nor the one on my account) Friday night saying they have put their lock on. No combination has been given, and I have a crew scheduled for two days from now to move more stuff in, but I have no way to get in there! 7. I emailed them again today; it's been four hours, still no reply. I also called them ... four hours, no reply. 8. Small detail, but the area from the driveway to the unit has two levels of uneven concrete. Makes it harder to wheel in a handtruck or dolly. Just poor planning. Do not rent from them. No matter how good the rate, this place is horribly run.

    BEWARE! TERRIBLE COMPANY…read more Red Dot facilities have no employees on site. Good luck dealing with their headquarters in Boulder when they screw up and you need help. Sunday was moving day. I spent 2 weeks assembling a crew, coordinating schedules, and renting a U-Haul. We arrived at 8AM to find a red lock on our door preventing entry. Strange since I've always paid my bill 6 months in advance. The last was issued in November which I immediately paid through May. I called the number posted on their fence. The recording said I'd reached them outside business hours but I could hit 3 and leave a message for the manager. I hit 3. The manager's box was full. Office hours posted on the building said on Sundays they open at 9. Five of us waited an hour. No one showed up. At 9, Red Dot's switchboard opened. I explained what happened. Their rep looked at my account and said: There's no reason there should be a lock on your door. I said: So send someone over. I have 4 crew standing around plus a truck. She said: We can't do that. It's his day off. He can let you in tomorrow. I said: So call him on his day off and get him here. You have no backup?" She said: No. He's the only one. He can let you in tomorrow. That night I wrote a letter to Red Dot's President... 1) You locked me out of my rental unit for no reason, preventing access to my possessions, which access is guaranteed 24/7. Doing so without cause is illegal. 2) You prevented me from reaching your office by not providing a number to a local employee, not providing a number that gets through to anyone "after office hours," and not being open during the hours posted on your office. 3) You failed to make available a local person to permit me access even when your rep told me the screw up was your fault, not mine. The next day was my last opportunity to move before Christmas, so I made fresh arrangements based on Boulder telling me they'd have the lock off the following day. When I got to storage at 10AM, the lock was STILL ON and the office was still locked with no one on site. I called Boulder. The rep said: The lock would be off by the end of the day. I said that was unacceptable since we only have today and can't move in the dark. He said an employee would probably get there before the end of the day so there'd likely be time to move. I asked if the employee would call me when he arrived so I'd know the lock was off and could rent a truck. He said: No, they don't make calls. I said: So you're saying I have to drive from my house to storage every half hour all day to know when the lock's off. He said: The only other thing you can do is make a specific appointment to see him. That way, if he gets tied up, we'll call you to let you know he'll be late. He's free today at 2:30. I made the appointment. I reached the facility with 2 others at 2:15. The employee didn't show up AGAIN. At 2:45 I called Boulder. The rep said: Unfortunately, the employee got tied up at another facility. I reminded him that I'd been assured that I'd be called if that happened, to which he replied: There was no way for us to know. Really? In my 35 years as a business psychologist and real estate broker, I've never seen anything like this. At every turn, Red Dot let me know they couldn't care less about me as a customer--that I'm nothing more than a number and an irritant, all while illegally depriving me of what I paid for. On Tuesday, I finally heard from the company and was told that since they'd screwed up, they'd compensate me for my U-Haul rental of $60, but not my out-of-pocket crew expense of $300 or anything else, BUT that they would not be issuing a check. Compensation would be in the form of a credit against future rentals. AS IF I'D ACTUALLY EXTEND MY STAY. I can't wait to leave.

    TERRIBLE company. My mom passed away, and I paid for her small unit for years. No problems. Every…read moremonth the old company took out the payment a few days after my SS hit my bank. No problems. Then this crappy bunch bought out the old folks. I immediately call them to set up automatic payments. NOPE. I have to bring in precious Trust papers and a death certificate. Are they going to want to keep copies? These papers are none of their business. So I miss a few payments before Christmas. Then they slap you with a $25 late fee. So now I owe about $100. Now I made it through Christmas, I was going to pay the $100 I owed. NOPE. NOW I OWE $200. RIDICULOUS! Frankly an old customer like me gets a $20 break on the cost. I am sure Cube Smart is trying to push ALL the old customers out. I have talked to the onsite manager many times. KRISTY, who won't give her last name, doesn't seem to remember talking to me at all. KRISTY also doesn't seem to be able to remember that my Mother is dead. After the whole conversation with this rude woman, she had the gall to call me Marion. After I told her Marion is dead. THIS COMPANY HAS THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE. PLEASE GO SOMEWHERE ELSE, YOU WILL BE MUCH HAPPIER. THANKS FOR NOTHING KRISTY! TRY TO NOT BE RUDE TO THE OTHER CUSTOMERS! .
