I am a professional home organizer and have been using New City for many years, as part of my job…read moreis to also manage client moves from beginning to end during the spring and summer months. New City Moving used to be my favorite out of them all in Chicago, but since they were bought out by New Sons, everything is going down the tubes. My recent move job went as follows. Movers showed up 25 minutes late on move day, had the audacity to ask for a tip, over-rode my instruction as to arrival time at the new location and approached the front desk to start unloading before my arrival, after I told them we had the elevator booked at a certain time. Apparently they had a full move after mine, which is something the "old " New City never did, so they were in a rush. I was willing to let all that slide until the next day I noticed that they drilled too far in to my clients dining table while assembling it and cracked the top of it in four areas. Funny how the lead Juan made sure to point out any items while packing that were previously damaged, or scratches on the floor of the new unit when we entered, but neglected to inform me that he busted my clients table right before he left for his next job. oh and for the record, I had tips for each team member on both pack and move day. point is, no one in service should ask for a tip. it's tacky. This company had turned in to a disappointment.,

That is the stupidest thing I ever heard. I just want my stuff. Carmen, who handles the office end, will not answer my calls. I've asked the person who denied my claim, twice, if the driver was contacted and she won't answer my question, via email. I'm really disgusted.

We contracted with North American Van Lines to move our belongings from the northwest Chicago…read moresuburbs to Fruita, a small town in western Colorado. If you hire these guys, I will guarantee they will be breaking many of your items. While North American wrapped the furniture, we packed all the boxes ourselves. We spent hundreds of dollars for moving boxes, bubble wrap and other packing materials to make sure our items arrived safely. When the boxes were moved from our house into the trailer, they were in perfect condition. It didn't matter. Our items did not break because of the way they were packed in the boxes. They broke because of the way the boxes were loaded and crammed on the truck. When we contracted with North American, we specifically asked the salesman about items broken in shipping. He told us if anything was broken to take pictures of the broken items and the boxes they came in. Then file a claim using their online form which we did and the items would be paid for. That is not what happened. North American paid us $109 for a claimed $840 in damaged items. Then to discourage us from asking for anything more they said if we chose to, we could file for arbitration. They were also going to charge us $300 to file for arbitration to discourage us from further advancing our claim. North American is claiming that because they did not pack the boxes, they couldn't be held liable for any damages. They further claimed that there was no written notification made of crushed boxes at the time of delivery. The reason there is no written notification at delivery is the driver, who should have been supervising the unloading, was sleeping in the truck while another local crew that was brought in did the unloading. As for who packed the boxes, that is irrelevant because of the way the boxes were loaded. Even if North American had packed the boxes the same damage would have occurred. Having worked for UPS in the trucking industry I know there is a right way and a wrong way to load a truck trailer. Our trailer was 13-feet high. The correct way to load it would have been to stack boxes to build walls until the boxes reached half the height of the trailer. Then a wood platform is mounted across the trailer and more boxes are then loaded to the top. By doing it this way the weight of the boxes is evenly distributed and the boxes on the bottom are not crushed. When our trailer was loaded all our boxes were clearly marked with what was in them. Unfortunately, the crew member stacking the boxes didn't speak English so it is unlikely he understood what was in each box. He then built the box walls from the floor all the way to the top without using any wood platforms. As a result, all of the boxes on the bottom were crushed by the weight of 13-feet of other boxes stacked on top of them. Those bottom boxes are where all of our broken items were packed. Our trailer was 53-feet long. When it was loaded, all 17,000 pounds of our belongings were packed in the first third of the trailer. This left room for other loads to be delivered along the way. When we got to our new house we had to wait 10 days for our items to be delivered. Because of the excessive delay I asked the driver how many other stops he had to make enroute. He said there were no other stops. Our items went direct from Chicago. My point here is that if there were no other stops there was no reason to pack our items so tight. The box walls didn't need to go to the ceiling of the trailer. Had the load been spread out more the boxes on the bottom may not have been crushed at all. Buyer beware!

After calling several companies and…read morebeing told that they have no availability at the needed date, I finally found Extra Mile Movers. They took into consideration my availability, and a crew of four people arrived on time. The guys handled all of the heavy furniture with precaution(they disassembled and wrapped all of the details), boxed the kitchen supplies, clothes, a few electronic devices, and even asked me if I have items that need special care. The process took around 10-11 hours, and this was the estimated time they gave me. I appreciate this part as I wasn't flexible with my time, and it had to be a quick move out process. Not to mention that the guys had to go up and down the stairs with all of my belongings. Communication with these guys was on top as they asked me a few questions and gave me updates on the process length and how it would be handled--worth the price and quality of the job. I big shout-out to them! I would definitely use them again in my next move.

Normally I would move myself but I'm no spring chicken anymore lol so my wife and I began searching online. At first glance every moving company looked the same and we were overwhelmed with the options. However, we learned very quickly that not all moving companies are the same after calling around. What really drew us in was the quote/initial call to Extra Mile Movers. We requested a quote online and they were very quick to reply and literally answer the 1000 questions my wife and I had. They made the whole process feel simple and hassle free. We decided to go with Extra Mile and to say the least I'm more than a happy camper. They were very professional, courteous and gave my wife and I the chance to wind down and know everything was going to be okay in the midst of the craziness. They took very good care of our belongings, had impeccable wrapping skills that I've never even seen before, and just made the day more pleasurable. The team that showed was so good and they genuinely made us feel like they cared about our belongings. I would recommend these guys to everyone I know both friend and family. There impeccable skills speak for themselves and their customer service was amazing. They were with me every step of the way and there was no surprises. I truly feel they went the extra mile and as a result have gained a lifetime customer!!

Having managed several successful small businesses myself, never before have I experience more…read moreunprofessionalism in my 20+ years of experience. First, their response time for getting back to you with a quote is horrible. And when I finally received a quote, it was not in writing. Second, when the day came for them to move me, they showed up late with a truck that was falling apart. Parts of it were rusting, one of the rear tires on the double axle was flat and hanging on the rim, the gas tank had a piece of plastic stuffed in it to function as a gas cap, and the truck failed to start when they tried to back it up to the storage unit. When the employees called the owner, he cussed a blue streak on the phone and hung up angrily. When he called his employees back again, his attitude was less than professional. The movers themselves were talking about how the truck was unreliable as well. They informed me that the owner would be there in 20 min and I told them to call me when he got there. The next call I received was not from the owner but from the moving crew that had been talking about how unreliable the truck was. I asked them if the owner brought another moving truck or trailer, and they informed me that they had managed to start the truck and were ready to move me. I told them I wasn't comfortable with them using that truck, to which they replied, "F^&K you then." The owner failed to call me at any time to inform me of what was going on or how he planned to complete the move. As a result of their poor customer service, I have now incurred additional storage fees. As a result, I cannot in good conscience recommend this business.

I asked why and Steven said that they had little overhead and were a local family company. I did some research on yelp and google and found every review at 5 STARS!! They are definitely NOT 5 STARS! We tried to support local while saving a few bucks. Don't do it. The movers showed up in a U-Haul, not professional looking at all, just 4 guys one of whom was the owner Steven Eisenach. They took a crazy amount of breaks. Every few minutes was a smoke break. I had to ask them not to smoke in the truck while loading our furniture. Plus they threw their cigarette butts all over the yards and drive ways. In all it took over 10 hours for a 3 bedroom home to go 10 minutes away. After the move we noticed many dings and gouges in the furniture and other items. During the move I noticed a gouge in our downstairs oak door and pointed it out to a mover. I got a shoulder shrug and a "wow! thats bad." After the move we had to repair and paint many scratches in the walls at the old and new home. The worst came as we unpacked. I left my garage tools to unpack last in order to get the house up and running. When I finally got a chance to unpack the garage I noticed many tools missing. I ended up losing many hand tools and some power tools. I have a 4'x8' peg board normally loaded with tools. Now it barely has anything at all. I am finding more tools missing every day. I did reach out to the movers via email and voicemail and have had no response. My wife did some more digging on the company and found a few things. She found that Steven reviewed his own company. And with as many 5 star reviews we believe that most are friends or family. She also found 1 Google review saying pretty much what we say above. They had a couple of tv's go missing. Makes for an interesting read. https://www.google.com/maps/contrib/112013538562282514718/reviews/@42.329958,-89.0485609,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m3!8m2!3m1!1e1?hl=en-US And finally, my wife found a news article on Steven Eisenach. It claims that he was arrested for stealing over $17K in jewelry while working for another moving company.
