On Thursday, August 10th I decided to bring Jughead to a place that was recommended by a family member who lives in the Delmar area. I had looked for it before, and was unable to find it, but alas it was found.
Inside, the place is styled well, there is a large mural/photo of the Brooklyn Bridge on the back wall, and adjacent a wire fence allowing you to "Lock up your love", and locks are $1.50. There are a few small tables, and a counter to sit at, but not much other room. We approached the counter, and waited to be acknowledged, which did give us some time to review the menu.
There were some interesting choices, some different things like kebabs, but it seemed that burgers were the most obvious specialty, with ones named for different areas around town. I decided on the Delmar (Fresh & Natural hand crafted ground beef patty, romaine lettuce, double american cheese, tomatoes, onions, pickles and extra napkin sauce. Jughead choose, The Adirondack, Fresh & Natural hand crafted double ground beef patty, romaine lettuce, double american cheese, tomatoes, onions pickles and extra napkin sauce. We ordered got an order of fries to split, and a couple of fountain beverages and took a seat.
In a few minutes, the orders were brought to the counter to pick up, and we sat down to eat. To start, the burgers were good, but very messy. Messy burgers seem to be a thing in burger restaurants, and at times it's good, and at times, not so much. These fell on the in between, they were tasty, but the messiness was not because of extra napkin sauce, they were just really greasy. Yes, they had flavor, but they could have been drained before placed on the bun making everything soggy. The fries, which appeared to be hand cut were piping hot, but flavorless, there was no seasoning added (salt especially), and there was no salt or pepper on the tables. If they don't want to salt their fries, allow us to then.
Here was the kicker for me... for 2 Burgers, 1 small Fry & 2 fountain drinks it was $32.00.. that is a little bit much in my opinion. Was the food good? Well, it was acceptable, but it wasn't outstanding, we were not eating Kobe beef burgers, or lobster rolls. Will we stop back here? Meh... probably not as there are other places doing the same thing, with slightly better quality, and at half the price. Namely, one of their competitors is right across the street, were we got two orders of fries, two burgers (both double burgers), and two beverages for half the cost ($16.50).
I am sorry Extra Napkin, you are nothing special. read more
