    Veggie Lover Wrap - deeeelicious!
    Paul J.

When everyone in your group wants a burger but you want something different, what can you do? You can go to Extra Napkin, and while everyone is enjoying their delicious burgers, you can get the best-tasting felafel wrap I've ever had! It's called the Veggie Lover's Wrap and it's worth a try. The felafels were crisp on the outside and earthy smooth in the inside, deep and flavorful, surrounded by tomatoes, onions and pickles smothered in tzaziki sauce on a warm pita. Every single bite was full of flavor and warmth, my tummy was happy. And their fries are just as good as you can get, starchy and lightly tossed with sea salt. Go to Extra Napkin - the staff are friendly and generous and the food is worth every penny!

Looks can be deceiving. Ordered from Grub Hub. Patty is so thin and burnt. When you bite into it tastes like your biting straight up charred meat and cardboard. Not juicy at all. I'd rather not have that fancy extra napkin stamp on the bun but have a regular patty in that burger instead. The cheesy fries taste like soft frozen fries with yellow liquid cheese poured over. Buffalo Mac & cheese was sub par. They just added crispy chicken with hot sauce poured over. I could've made a better meal at home. Only thing that was okay tasting not pictured was a vanilla milkshake. Waste of time and money.

I knew we were on to someplace interesting when the day after we settled on where to go for lunch the local newspaper published a review of the place. Extra Napkin is mostly a takeout place. They've got a couple of tables that will each seat 2 or 3 people, and there are 4 or 5 stools at a counter overlooking the parking lot and Delaware Ave. The kitchen is open to the entire eating area. The last business here was a takeout pizza place if that helps to give you a feel for the ambiance (or lack thereof). There is a pretty wide variety of items to choose from including the obvious fast food appetizers (e.g., onion rings, chicken fingers, wings, tater tots, etc.), sandwiches & wraps, hot dogs, salads (both house-planned and build-your-own), kebabs, and burgers (again, both hours-planned and build-your-own). Beverages include a raw juice bar, coffee, and soda (mostly Mexican made with real sugar). No alcoholic beverages are available. I decided to go with the in-house designed burger, the Albany ($6,99), with a hand-shaped patty, caramelized onions, mushrooms, pickles, pepper jack cheese, and the house made Extra Napkin sauce, all served on a toasted brioche roll. I also opted to add Fries for $2. The roll was soft and fresh. I don't recall being asked how I wanted my burger cooked, so it came out medium, but it had a nice crust. I can't say it was dry though, because the Extra Napkin sauce provided an adequate amount of moisture, in addition to flavor with a bit of a bite. My only weak spot in this burger was that the onions were stringy when you took a bite. Otherwise, this was a very good tasting and enjoyable burger. The fries were average. I decided to try a raw juice drink ($5.99/$12 oz.; $6.99/16 oz.) for something totally different. The number SEVEN is a mix of orange and carrot juice with ginger. It certainly was very colorful and it gave me the feeling that I was enjoying something healthy along with my burger and fries. My lunch partner ordered the Troy wrap ($8.59), turkey breast, turkey bacon, romaine lettuce, shredded cheddar, avocado, tomatoes, red onions, and ranch dressing. He was pleased with his choice and took half home. The staff are nice and friendly, the place is very clean. I'm likely to stop back some day to try the kebabs.

    GREAT onion rings!

I like pointy things - pointy scissors, pointy fangs, pointy elbows, pointy shoes, and pointy food. Using my sharp X-ray vision I permeated the menu at Extra Napkin to see what lay beneath, and there it was - Kebabs. I don't care if they make burgers and fries and veggie patties and hot dogs and milk shakes - under all that usual fast food stuff was something dangerously good. Ground Kofte Kebabs ($11.99) was four perfect little patties seasoned with garlic, cumin, ginger, coriander, etc.. It stuck me how fragrant and juicy they were, grilled, served on soft warm pita with a side of tzatziki and salty hummus, as well as rice (good rice, too) and a generous side salad - delicious. Try the house "sauce" on your salad (spices, ketchup, mayo) - rich, you may not like it, but I loved it's spiked simplicity. Stitch enjoyed a beautiful Mediterranean Salad ($9.99) with a Greek vinaigrette, fresh greens with cuke and green pepper and cherry T's and red onion, (canned) olives, topped with loads of feta. Half will be for later today - too much for one, this would be a good dish to share next time around. Oh, and did someone say Onion Rings? ($5.99) OK it's hard to pass on rings. These were intensely intensely crispy, served hot, the onion didn't slip out like slugs from the coating - absolutely some of the best in Albany. Eating them all yourself will be hard, but sometimes sharing is even harder, so be aware that the service is plastic - no pointy tines to stick into the hands of others trying to steal from your plate. Be prepared, that's all. Hope I made my point. Zena, Goddess of Fire

The owner, Sal, came over to our table while we scanned the menus and introduced himself. He gave us a complimentary taco each and said "these are the best tacos you've ever had." I loved the confidence and I loved that he was right. It was love at first bite. We ordered a quesadilla, a chicken salad, a plate of fries, more tacos and a gyro (assuming we would be taking most of it home and eating it for dinner over the week) The quesadilla & gyro were delicious and fresh. They were still tasty as leftovers 2 days later. I wasn't crazy about the salad but that's probably my fault. Ya Hala does comfort junk food - this is not the time to be calorie-conscious. Sal checked in on us a number of times while we were eating. The restaurant is a small hole-in-the-wall with a few booths and a bathroom. I assume most of their business comes from people doing take out at the end of their work day. If I lived or worked closer, I would be a regular customer here. In the end, Sal packed our food in to-go boxes and gave us a free gyro as a surprise. At some point during dinner, my husband mentioned I was Yelp Elite. In the interest of full disclosure, at no point did Sal ask me to leave a favorable review or use his free food as a bargaining chip. This review is done without taking the free gyro into consideration.

To explain, I ordered a double cheeseburger with cheese fries and it was delicious. To breakdown, the cheeseburger was excellent. The meat was juicy and tender with top tier flavor. Likewise, the sauce on the burger was sweet and tangy which elevated the flavor. Similarly, the potato bun was fresh and tasty, but the bottom of it was a bit soggy. It was simply a great burger. In similar fashion, the cheese fries were pretty good. To make clear, the fries were hot, crispy, and flavorful. Furthermore, the cheese was great and really made these fries special. I'm gluten-free, so I choose not to have the potato bun, which is a bummer because it looked amazing. My only gripe is the upcharge for a gluten-free bun. I completely understand paying a bit more for specialty products, but a $3 add-on felt a little steep. It actually kept me from ordering my own burger this time, so I just snagged a bite of my partner's (which was excellent). **I have had the gluten free option before and it was good, but udi's isn't my favorite (doesn't have very clean ingredients). Great tasting burger overall, but I just wish the gluten-free option felt a little more reasonable (or perhaps had a higher quality GF option for the higher price tag).

The craziness of…read morethe new rage, from an oldie but goodie, and the committment from the owner to make his/her greateness available at reasonable price and in cool digs. Now, I wouldn't call the New York State Capital lawn cool digs, but seeing as it just a few blocks away and plenty of green grass, park benches, picnic tables, and other seating, how can one resist coming out here for a stroll and a great bite to eat? Not to mention, it is the only place in Albany where you can find 4-5 food trucks to choose from, which makes me feel sad, as that number is low compared to other progressive cities like, San Diego, San Francisco, Austin, Dallas, New York. It also upsets some people that the capitol gets special treatment for placement of food trucks, but let's save that for another day. Michele's looked good. I was simply craving a burger and fries. However, I've learned from my food trucking, that fries can be somewhat of a challenge. Either soggy, dried, or just not right. I hate suffering through that, so instead, I ordered the tots they have. Being a chemist by nature, I don't know what it is with tots, but you can hardly mess them up. They always come out crispy on outside and nice and hot inside. Michele's did not disappoint. I ordered my 0.3lb burger with cheese, lettuce, tomato, and onion. The film broke loose and this movie came to a screeching halt when I heard, "We are out of onions." "Ahhhhgg," I thought, as in my opinion a burger just isn't a burger without onions. Before I could complete my sigh of disbelief, the server said, "We can put some fried onions on it, if you want. Will take a little longer." I was ecstatic. Not because I got my onions, albeit in a different form, but the food truck guy did not have to offer this, but he did. Why? I don't know, ask him, but I can guess it is because they have that food truck service mentality of "Let's take care of our special customers." It did take a little longer but was worth it. The cook handed me a freshly cooked cheeseburger with fried onions and tater tots. He even warned me that the tots were piping hot just out of the fryer. Really nice touch. I will definitely be back and try their other menu items which look really good including the clam, even though I am not a big clam fan.
