We also have started going back this fall (2022) for intermittent OT support as our son has gotten better, but still benefits from occasional sessions. Our son works with Ms Jillian who is a phenomenal OT. She is kind, funny, warm, and so creative! When she started working with our son, he was starting second grade as a non-writer (but on target with other skills). She quickly figured out he has weak fine motor skills (exacerbated by a previous wrist break at a trampoline park). Honestly, to see his progress over two years later is nothing short of incredible. She makes handwriting fun! Professionally I am actually a speech pathologist and I can tell this is a great private practice clinic. With respect to a previous review mentioning staffing concerns, I would like to share that this is happening everywhere right now (private practices, schools, hospitals, etc). Speech, OT, and PT are in high demand across the Chicagoland area and there are vacancies everywhere (due to shortages in the profession and Covid making those shortages worse). That being said I have not seen or heard of any staffing issues at Step Forward, from the parent perspective. We love it here!

I would advice to completely keep your children away from this place, especially when it comes to…read moretherapies. When we first started, we were happy with our therapy team. Then very quickly, within several months, everyone on our team starting to leave. Our son has Down syndrome so it's important to have him get all three therapies: OT, PT and speech at least once weekly. But we gave them the benefit of the doubt and waited until they filled in the spots. We waited months for a second session per week that was never met because they said their PT wasn't available and unable to fit us in. Well, I just saw that our son's PT was also working the preschool side of their business (which is not a good excuse for being unable to fit us in if they claim to be a therapy clinic). So on top of not having enough therapists for their therapy customers, they have them work the preschool side as well (our original PT had said they worked both, which I'm guessing is a large part of why he left). So this week, our son's "new" OT who had only been there weeks is leaving asap with no heads up with no replacement. This place is disorganized and unprofessional. I've had 2-3 separate people calling or texting me with the same scheduling issues or questions. There is no central manager, and management is non-existent at best. Billing is even worse. Then, because we felt we had to leave because they couldn't meet our son's needs (and this was the third time we were told to wait for a therapist replacement in less than a half year), they sent an email demanding remaining balance due within a week because we were "no longer clients!!" I've never been treated so poorly and unprofessionally by a clinical office ever in my life. That is not how billing should work because they haven't even finished filing claims for therapy services through our insurance. Plus, they never answered my questions on why billing amounts ranged so differently by even over a hundred dollars for the same services. I'm not an expert in billing, but their billing manager Jackie should be fired for treating families so poorly. I even tried to work out a payment system with them when our HSA funds each pay period (so the balance would be paid in a couple of months), to which she replied with a demand that full balance be paid immediately (in 2 days, no less) with full payment due immediately as soon as they process the insurance claims. I have a lot of medical issues, and I even delayed my insulin pump and diabetic supplies and stretch them further to make it a priority to pay their clinic. It's like they act like some loan shark mobster group or something in the way they demand payment. I've never seen a clinic act in such a way. And if it's due to desperation because they are so poorly managed (I don't know why else they would act this way), then that's even more reason to stay away. So if you are looking for a therapy clinic or even a preschool with consistent staff who treat their clients respectfully and professionally, my advice is to run away as fast as possible.

Until very recently, he was only able to be seen (elsewhere) once every 2 weeks for Speech. At the same location, we were waitlisted for three months just for an OT evaluation! Needless to say, that was NOT working for us! My son needs more intensive (weekly!) services. Turning Wheels Therapy came recommended by another professional we saw. The owner, Amy, worked with me to get my son in for both therapies on the same scheduled day, and at a time that luckily worked with our crazy schedule. I am SO appreciative of that!! My son really enjoys his OT with Erin and his Speech with Kelsey. Both have been great with my questions. Erin especially has been great with providing me with resources and information regarding OT-based activities and supports. They are currently remodeling their basement area to better accommodate OT/equipment, and I am excited to see the final results! I am very happy that we found private services that works for us. Maria, Lisa, Josie, and the rest of this team of extraordinary clinicians saved my life - I wouldn't be here today without them. When I started working with Rago & Associates, I was at the end of my rope. My eating disorder had plagued me for years, growing stronger and more powerful despite the work I'd put in with other therapists and dietitians. When I met Maria I was stripped of all hope, and I felt that no matter what I did I would never experience healing or recovery. Maria met me exactly where I was at with compassion, love, and genuine hope for my future. She cried with me, held my hand, and assured me that I was deserving of health and happiness - and that she would fight alongside me tooth and nail until we achieved that, no matter what. She created a treatment plan tailored to my needs and invited my loved ones into the recovery process by providing accessible tools, resources, and space to feel heard and supported with all that they were carrying. She guided my family and me through the ups and downs of recovery - utilizing her experience in everything from outpatient to residential settings - with a keen understanding of what I needed and how to get me to agree to it (no small feat). Maria invited other exceptional clinicians from her team to join in my recovery process, including other therapists, a psychiatrist, and a dietician. Each brought their own unique way of connecting with me and discovering who I was, who I wanted to be, and how we were going to get there together. Through it all, Maria remained firmly planted in my corner, my biggest advocate and supporter, her belief in me unwavering. I cannot overstate how much it meant to have this team of people who refused to give up on me. Every time I fell, I had an interconnected web of people ready to catch me and help me back onto my feet. When I felt like I had nothing left, they showed me how much more fight there was inside of me. Eating disorders flourish in the dark, but this team of people shines with a radiant light. I am forever grateful to them for guiding me down the path to true and full recovery.

The lying and ineptitude was so appalling that I finally needed to have a conference call between the insurance company and speech therapy to resolve the fact that my insurance provider was never billed. For 6 months I was asked to pay for the whole bill. Why? Because my insurance provider was simply never billed. On a brighter note, the speech therapy was even worse. They want to have one on one sessions with your children without any parental oversight. Why? So they can bully your kid behind closed doors. Nice to your face, another thing behind closed doors.

They did not communicate about extra services added to her therapy. They did not offer a choice for receiving full time of services being billed. Their fees are also higher than comparable places, but adding the surprise "extras" without approval is in my view a real scam move. When I contacted their billing office to ask for a breakdown of their cost, I was meet with someone who was very defensive and ignored my request. A couple of phone calls later, I finally received an explanation of cost. From an ethical standpoint, it is very concerning how they charge. In my experience they showed me that they had a "don't ask, don't tell, just send the bill" attitude. If you go here, make sure you get a breakdown, IN WRITING, BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING!

As a physical therapist, Anita is extremely competent and professional, but also very welcoming and friendly. She is one of the best therapists I have ever worked with: knowledge and thorough, as well as patient and kind. She could tell if I was having a bad day with pain & stiffness from RA, but still helped me progress in strengthening my shoulder. I always received individual attention- unlike other clinics that overbook and basically leave you on your own. When the need arises, I will definitely go back to Northwest PT. The doctor took that feedback personally, and was standoff-ish with me during my next appointment where they asked me to come back. Shannon and the staff there are nice but they don't listen to you and certainly don't care about helping you. Avoid this place at all costs. They call themselves an "institute" but there's no thinking outside of the box. There's no learning here or an openness to do so. Nor is there any adaptation to patients' needs. In particular, younger patients. They mostly seem to "treat" elderly people. They're therapy is mostly the therapists watching you do exercises you could probably do at home. The small bit of hands-on stuff they did wasn't helpful. They will rope you in with false promises then suggest expensive out of pocket treatments like PRPs. They also like to call you incessantly if you don't answer right away instead of just leaving a brief message. If I didn't answer the first 3 times why keep calling and not simply leave a message?! In the end, I wasted a lot of time and money bothering with this place and suggest you not do the same. If you have rare or persistent chronic pain issues you're better off avoiding this place. I'd write more but Yelp doesn't allow you to type that much for reviews.
