If you are inexperienced with electrical, you should NOT interact with this company. They will try to take advantage of you. Example: " How long ago have you had your panel serviced? " My answer " I don't know , how much does it cost ? " "$1400.00". "To do what?" Their answer " Service the panel and lubricate the circuit breakers". I blinked hard ... replied " It cost me less to install a brand new panel AND new circuit breakers a few years ago, like $500 less to replace everything to NEW !" Next: How much to install a standard GFI outlet 14 feet from panel in wall ? " Well, it would be about $2800.00 and we would cut a hole in the dry wall for access which we will not repair" My reply " I don't have time enough today to be ripped off. Please leave the premises... " I got the outlet placed the same day with the hole in the dry wall for $250". I paid a handy man $75 to patch the hole and paint it.. JOB DONE ! As you see, they are trying to fool you into thinking electrical is both hard and expensive. It is not. You do need to hire a bonded and insured electrician I would advise, but just not such a group like this, that tries to take advantage of your inexperience with this sort of repair. I called them in November to fix a recurring short in our kitchen GFI circuit. The electrician gave me '3 options'. I have never had an electrician give me 3 options in my 65 year life. The only option i was interested in was the 'fix it' option. He starts out with $4,000 to install a whole new circuit to relieve overloading on the existing one. the second option was something less (I think i was in shock for a moment). The third option to fix the problem was $550. I was mad but said OK due to other time constaints. He was there an hour. Last week i had him come back as the problem was not fixed. This time the first option was $20000 to rewire the entire house including landscape lighting which was causing the short through an outside outlet. Option 3 was over $900. I tried to negotiate using the excessive payment from the first visit with no success. So i gave him my option, which was to leave. A contractor friend installed a GFI on the outside of the kitchen outlet to separate the landscape circuit from the kitchen circuit. the problem outside still exists but now it only trips the landscape watering and lights. I am a salesman and really was offended by their use of the 'make the lowest overpriced option look good by offering two higher ones first' approach. Do NOT use these guys. read more

Express Electrical Services seemed perfect, friendly staff and helpful and had service in 2 days. I needed just 4 overhead lights replaced, 2 which were more urgent in my home office, and figured this would be pretty straightforward (LED can lights). Hector who was very nice and polite came in, looked at the lights and then informed me it would be $300 per light to replace. I was stunned and confused. It had been a stressful day and 2 of the lights that needed repair were in my office which was dark, they kept going on and off so I figured maybe there was something else going on. I asked him why it was so pricey and eventually he said the lights themselves cost $75 but the $225 is for installation and 1 year warranty. This still seemed outrageous but unfortunately I was too desperate and despite having a sense this was a crazy price I told Hector to proceed with 2 lights that I needed in the office and I'd buy another for $75. This was a dumb move on my part, as I later found out you can buy these lights for $50 or less at HOme Depot (same brand) and it took Hector all of 15 minutes to install the lights. He did spend 45 minutes going out to buy them but he should have had them on his truck. This review is to say don't make the same mistake I did, I saw all of these 5 star reviews on Google and although their actual service was good Hector was nice and competent they are fleecing their customers. For 15 minutes of diagnosing and 15 minutes of installing new lights, in the end I was charged nearly $800. I could see spending $200 for labor and maybe $200 for the bulbs. $800 is completely unfair pricing. They have lost a customer for any future jobs. read more

I called because I was told by Edison that I needed to have my main breaker replaced, I asked specifically for that service. My first quote was for $11,000 to replace the entire box, my second option was to replace all the breakers for $4000.00. The cost of the breaker at Home Depot was about $200.00. My neighbor who is a contractor looked at it and said the problem was the screws were loose. He tightened all the connections and the problem of flickering lights went away. EXPRESS NO WAY !! Very slow none responsive . I had Express coming to work on my house. They were supposed to replace every socket in my house and they did it. But charge me for it. I was told that when I bought my new light fixtures, they would come over and replace them and I believe that they charge me for that and that was supposed to be in the contract. I had them replace my fuse box and they both did it closed. I tried opening it and it sliced my thumb open. I don't know why they both did they closed after they did the work. I have a fan that's outside that just turns on by itself never happened until they did the work, they were very dirty and never cleaned up after themselves. I left a lot of mess. I would've thought they would've vacuum, cleaned it since I have little kids. They left the screws all over the place. I just replaced my carpet they never were shoe covers. I've been trying to get them down here to open my box and fix the problem. It's taking forever when they put the fuse box and they left a big hole in my wall and never covered it. We had plenty of storms that came and left and never did anything until one day a guy came and put a piece of plastic over it. According to them, they couldn't find an inspector. That's why it was left open. Actually a guy said to me that they forgot about it so I would not recommend this company I believe that was overcharged because, they didn't really do know where they didn't pull wires out or nothing out of the wall $25,000 for nothing take my advice is don't use this company read more

I lost power to my upstairs. After flipping all the breakers, the power was still out. However, I did notice there was a problem with a switch. Being a Sunday, my handyman was unavailable. I found Express Electrical, who would come out on a Sunday. I will start by saying the eletrician was a very nice man. And he did fix the problem, which was just to replace a breaker switch. However, for that 15 minutes of actually replacing the part, with a part that costs maybe $20, I was charged $525!!! He actually tried to charge me more, stating that the service call for a Sunday was $129 (taking my total up to $600). I told him I was quoted $49.95 over the phone. He told me that was not for a Sunday. He ended up calling the office. The receptionist reviewed the call and confirmed that she had, in fact, misquoted me $49.95, so he had to honor the quote. Also, what type of "service" company does not apply their service charge towards the work done?? He did write up four recommendations for me. #1 was changing my house from 100 amps to 200 amps and "rejuvenitating" the circuit box, costing over $10,000. #2 was leaving it at 100 amps but "rejuvenitating" the circuit box for $4600. #3 was for just replacing the one breaker that was out and four other breakers that were "weak." That one was about $1600. And #4 was just replacing the one breaker, which ended up being $525. Being a retired female on a fixed income, and knowing nothing about electricity, my first inclination was to replace all five breakers. However, by that time my handyman texted me and my brother texted me (he's an electrical engineer, but out of state) and both said no, no, no! The price was outrageous! My handyman told me to replace the one breaker and he would take care of the rest. I know an electrician isn't cheap. And I expected to pay a couple hundred dollars. But $525 for one breaker? I could have done this entire job myself in about 8 hours with $300 worth of supplies from home depot, but really was not in the mood. Their bid? $3600! The dude told me the cost of a quad 220 circuit breaker alone would run $511. Looked it up online and it's less than $21 from home depot. Called someone else, got a reasonable estimate of less then $1,100. Job done in 5 hours. Don't call these morons, you're just going to waste 2 hours of your time and the $28 fee they charge to come out and do an estimate. read more

Oh, I wish I had read these reviews before I called these guys. I had the exact same experience. I needed a couple outside lamps installed and they said they could send someone out for a $60 service call. They came out and said it would be $1500 to do it. Why so much? because of all the work to drill and bring the wire down from the attic. I said, well, how much to use that old covered outlet box over there instead? He said, I don't know if that outlet is live, but I'll troubleshoot it for $400. At that point I got suspicious. Most electricians would just open a cover and see if a wire is live (they're getting $60 for showing up after all). Not this guy. He just stood there trying not to laugh as he threw out all these ridiculous estimates. I remembered that I had recently paid $300 at my work to install an outside GFCI outlet behind an inside plug (so it didn't require running any additional wiring). It took that guy under an hour to complete and the only part he charged for was a waterproof outlet cover, so I probably overpaid a bit at $300. Knowing that $300 should be the upper limit for that task, I asked the guy from express "ok, what if we just put a plug outlet here, tapping into the inside outlet that's just behind it?" His answer: $600. Hmm, an electrician that charges $600 per hour. At that point I realized I'd been had. I paid the service fee of $60 and threw the guy out of my house as he mumbled something about yellow pages ads costing $3,000. Five minutes later, I get a call from their office offering a discount. Total waste of my time. Guys, someday you're going to run out of rich gullible people to rip off and have to start running an actual business that charges fair rates, oh, and one other tip - if you're going to put a couple fake 5-star reviews on your Yelp page, next time don't put them both up on the same day. I called this company to fix a problem in our kitchen, when the electrician Robert came out he gave us a quote to fix the problem, he also gave us a quote to fix a variety of other issues. I was thinking this is a scam, however I went up in the attic to take a look for myself and I found the exact problems Robert told me about. We had wires running all over, not in any kind of conduit, breaker boxes left open with exposed wires and more. This is not the cheapest company in town but they are the only electrician who has ever looked at our electrical and let us know of the problem we had, I don't know if we would have had a problem or not but I feel better knowing it is all fixed. My wife should have read the existing reviews on Yelp prior to contacting these rip-off artists. This was a simple problem that appeared to be a problem with a single breaker. The tech- Jay- hit us with one of their (as one can see on Yelp) patented 3 cost level quotes- The top being $4,000 (he said to re balance the inappropriately proportioned loads on the two breaker boxes) and the lowest being $1,672.00 to just fix the singular problem. I told him that considering the expense we would contact the home insurance company concerning this. I paid him $45.00 for the service call. After he left I went down to the breaker boxes and discovered he had turned one breaker off. They were all on earlier as I had gone through them all earlier in the day prior to contacting them. Upon turning the one back on I returned upstairs where I then was going to unplug the television and related items and re-plug them by use of an extension cord to an outlet I knew was working. When I went to remove the cord the television and attached lights came on briefly. I toyed with them and was able to duplicate this several times. This, I speculated, was nothing more than a short in a wire in the wall plug apparatus. When the electrician sent by the home warranty company arrived the next day he confirmed my diagnosis and repaired the problem in less than 5 minutes. The total cost: the $79.00 service call. So I saved almost $1,600.00. Since (according to numerous yelp reviews) Jay is not the only perpetrator of this kind of scam attempt and given the way in which the various techs routinely utilize the same "pitch" it seems reasonable to conclude that this revenue generating technique is part of the "training" this company provides to their service techs. Express Electric installed a full panel to my house which was costly. During some other work in the house it was realized our wiring is super old and could not hold the Wired Ring doorbells. After having an issue with one of their employees, Franco jumped right in and made sure our wiring was redone in a professional and extremely courteous manner. The technician Oren was a nice guy he seemed knowledgable and helped us get our power back on, but at a ripped off price. He quoted us $800 ( and nicely offered to put the $129 service call fee towards that) to troubleshoot and repair the problem, then the day of the service my father-in-law waited for him because both my husband and I had to work. He was over an hour late showed up @ 10:30 as opposed to 8am, he did the troubleshooting and then called me to tell me that he found the problem and the cost to repair was $675 or $935. I went over the differences and said lets go with the $675 if we are going to have to rewire in a few months anyways and we were expecting to pay the $800 so the $675 was a deal great thank you. Then when I get home from work I saw that he apparently charged the $800 plus the $675. I immediately called my father-in-law to find out what happened and he said that the technician told him I authorized the additional charge which I absolutely did not! I authorized a charge of $675 and that was it. Saturday morning I called into the office to discuss us having been over charged and I was told a manager would call me back and they never did. I called again this morning and a manager did call me back after I complained of no one calling me back on Sat. The manager gets on the line and she apparently had the technician right there with her and she wasn't even listening to what I was really saying she was more telling the tech what I was saying (only half of it) and then she listened to his side. So now we are playing a he said she said game. As I proceeded to get more and more upset as I explained the tech totally took advantage of my father-in-law and I absolutely did not authorize $800 plus $675 I authorized a charge of $675 she suddenly had to go to discuss this and she will call me back. Another hour goes by and I call back and she's now in a meeting (shocker). DO NOT USE THESE PEOPLE THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF!! I CALLED ANOTHER ELECTRICIAN AND WAS TOLD THE COST OF MY REPIAR SHOULD OF BEEN $300-$500 MAX AND THAT $1400 WAS A TOTAL RIP OFF!
