Brought my Macbook in b/c it was running slow and wasn't sure if I should just toss it and get a new one or try and fix this one. Very helpful staff suggested a new solid state drive would be far cheaper and make the computer run like new. Sounds good to me! 2 days later got my computer back, and they even backed up everything from my old hard drive and reloaded it on my new one so my computer came back brand new. 5 stars for helpfulness, 5 stars for being honest with me, and 5 stars for going above and beyond. Avoid at all cost. Not a reputable place. I brought my girlfriend's MacBook in to be repaired because the fan was making a loud puttering noise(Jan 2020). I thought all they simply needed to do was either clean or repair the fan, they apparently have no clue what they're doing with Mac's. They gave it back to us completely unable to be turned on; they said we needed a new motherboard, new hard drive, new fan. All of which would be several hundred dollars, I believe they quoted somewhere around $700-$800 and said we might as well buy a new computer. They also charged $60 for the service fee and thought that was ridiculous as well. TLDR; brought MacBook with loud fan, paid $60 for them to give us bricked MacBook. read more

My father had bought a new laptop and needed to get all of his information from his older laptop moved to this new one we bought. I called all over Syracuse and the 3 businesses I called prior to Express Computers didn't even ask what I needed. I said my father needed a hand with a new laptop and was told immediately they were booked out weeks, again without even knowing what we needed. I then called Express and was given the time, and respect to let them know my dad is older and not very good with technology. They asked me what laptop he had, and what type the new one was, and then told me that it was a really easy process and they could get it in ASAP for him if he was able to get to them. A short drive from Syracuse, my dad was able to find them easily. When we walked in we were greeted kindly by the gentleman behind the front desk. We talked for a little bit and were told use they would call us when it was done. To my surprise, less than 36 hours later we got a call saying it was ready. I rode back out with my dad and was really touched when we walked in, the person helping us took the time to show my dad a few things that he missed when he was "trying" to set his new laptop up. Just to see that they took the time to do that was really impressive to me. I would recommend Express Computers anyone who is looking for a business that cares, and takes the time to do your work properly, promptly, and with care. DO NOT GO HERE WHATEVER YOU DO!! I have NEVER been treated so poorly. I am absolutely appalled at the customer service here. Horrible business practice, dishonest, defensive. I got completely conned by these people. I took my computer here to get my hard drive replaced and my mom was quoted $99 on the phone and I was quoted the same price again in the office. My mom has taken her computer there to get fixed before and recommended them to me. I was quoted $150 at the Apple store, so I figured a cheaper price and supporting a local business, best of both worlds. I told them I was going back to NYC (where I live) on Saturday- I dropped it off on Wednesday. They assured me that it would be ready and they would call me in the next few days. (Apple had told me it would be done in an hour.) I received a call the next day saying it was taking a little longer than expected, said it would still be ready, totally fine with me, I didn't need it while I was home. Waited by my phone for the next 2 days, never heard a peep. Called them on Saturday, they are closed- they told me they were open on Saturday, never told me they closed at 2. I have to drive back to New York and I have to leave my computer there. Not ideal, but I can still deal, even though I had to chase after them for this information. I'm thinking that it won't be a big deal, that surely they will send it in a timely fashion. I call them a week later after I haven't received it and haven't heard from them asking when I can expect it, they said in the next few days. I receive the computer a week after that with a surprise bill for $245, including the shipping. No call, no explanation, no apology for not having it done on time, absolutely nothing. I call them because obviously there must have been a mistake on this price, I get no answer, leave a message, don't hear back until a week ago when I received a very short and rude message from Cathy. I finally got a hold of Cathy yesterday after some phone tag last week. She was nothing but rude and short with me from the very start. When I wanted to discuss the bill they wanted none of it, she treated me like I was trying to skip out on paying my bill. She gave me to Ted, who fixed my computer, who was a little nicer to talk to, but is also the one who told me that the price was $99, he tells me that the $99 was for the new hard drive, and the LABOR WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE PRICE QUOTE. Whaat?? It was $109 for labor. In what world do you not include the labor cost in a price quote for someone? That is insanity. They charged me 15 for shipping, which I finally got them to take off, and they acted like they were doing me a favor that this "one time we'll do this for you," when it was their fault in the first place. She was nothing but bulldozing everything I said so that she could take my credit card so they could charge me $235. I felt like I got backed into a corner so I gave it to her, and then I got off the phone feeling like I was completely bamboozled and conned into giving them my credit card number. When I got off the phone with them I called my mom, who has done business with them before and also owns a small business in Manlius. She went in to visit them and they were nothing but horrible and rude to her, told her that I was lying and told her a bunch of things that didn't happen. But bottom line, if I knew I would be charged $235 for this service, I would have gone to Apple, had my computer back in an hour for $150 with good customer service and people who stick to their word, or just put that money towards a new computer that is not already 4 years old. Period. I am just COMPLETELY appalled by this place. I can't say it enough. I was nothing but nice when I talked to them each time and I was treated like I was a second class citizen. They never took any ownership for anything on their end, and acted like I was crazy the entire time. I have NEVER been treated this way when dealing with any kind of business. I was met with nothing but dishonesty and hostility from this establishment. I am appalled at their business practice, and honestly I am shocked they're still in business when they treat people this way. It's almost as if no one ever questions the price they're given if it's more than they were quoted, and when I questioned it they were nothing but defensive and rude. I will tell anyone and everyone not to go to these people, they are con artists, and they are a disgrace to small business owners everywhere. Lesson I learned, I will never again accept a service without getting an official bill before the service has begun. Since I still ended up giving my credit card to them like an idiot and paid over double what I was quoted, I just want to make sure that this doesn't happen to anyone else. read more

I never do reviews but they were awesome! My laptop hard drive crashed and best buy said it was unrecoverable. I decided to try these guys after my friends raved about their service. Not only were they able to recover 5 years of photos, my documents, tax returns, they also transferred the data onto a new PC for no additional fee. They told me the turn around was 1-3 days, they had it done 24 hours later. I was so happy i took my macbook in that had a broken lcd screen and they fixed that too for about $200 less then what apple quoted me. Avoid this place. They appear to either be incompetent or crooks, perhaps both who knows but stay away. My latest visit cost me 50 for the diagnostics which isn't out of line had they actually done anything. But all they seem to have done was hook the system up to the internet and run a ping test. Internet connectivity on the system experiences intermittent "limited connectivity" issues which we described might work for hours so their tests as described were pointless. They were "express" I will give them that as they responded within an hour noting it was likely a router issue and suggested a house call. The home contains 5 other laptops, 2 Apple tv's and multiple mobile devices all hanging off the router with no issue. They also suggested the fix was to attach the system via Ethernet. Aside from the obvious question as to why only this system would need to be direct attached when everything else works fine and the small issue of how you would cable the system without tunneling to the basement and back up to the router in three minutes of my own investigation I found that Windows 8.1 apparently has this issue and it affects both wireless AND Ethernet. Incompetent or crooks you decide, but I strongly suggest you stay away. Oh and yes they also gave the kids who went to pick it up trouble about the power cable, said we didn't bring one. I have brought four laptops in for various services and I am amazed by the outstanding customer service that I receive, with any questions or problems they go above and beyond the guidelines to ensure customer satisfaction.
