Stopped for lunch. Great price! Everything I tried from the buffet was good. They weren't overly busy, but a steady crowd of locals getting go-boxes for $6.99/lb. My eat-in was $12.something. The place was clean, service was good, both for clearing empty plates and filling the buffet. The staff obviously cares. My only gripe (and I took a star) was no hot Chinese mustard. I like it on my egg rolls crab Rangoon and fried dumplings. They were ok without, and they did have some decent wasabi by the sushi. I'll be back. Maybe 5 stars next time? read more

My Mom and I loved the buffet so many chooses. Everything was delicious. The service was great; they were very kind.

Took a bit of time before they reopened inside after the pandemic and each time we have not had a good buffet meal, the quality is different, the selection smaller and temperature is hit or miss with frequency swaying toward just warm. I travel from Louisville to eat here as much as I can. It is the BEST buffet around the southern Indiana area. The staff are very friendly, the price is good, and the food is amazing. The selection isn't huge, but what everything you can grab off of the bar is excellent. read more

I hadn't been here in almost 2 years since they had been closed for dine in. But they are now fully open and have made some changes. They have rearranged the buffet, which I feel may have one less steam table as before. The dining room has been cleaned and touched up, as well. The food was tasty and fairly fresh. I guess my only negatives would be that they've raised prices some and there's no longer table service, as you have to get your own drink refills and silverware now. Overall, still a decent place for Chinese food in Salem. read more

Worst Chinese takeout we have had. Anywhere. My wife's bean curd in brown sauce was just raw tofu chunked up and tossed in a box with 5 vegetables. Not five different kinds. Just 5. The lo mein was mushy, way over cooked and bland. Zero flavor. Speaking of bland, my Generals chicken had zero spice and almost no flavor as well. The fried rice tasted like cardboard. It was awful. The entire meal ($30) was inedible. Never going back there. I wish you could actually call the restaurant to complain. No phone number on google to contact. read more

First time I've ever ate at express china and I was not impressed. Not only did our server ignore us the entire time, the food was nothing fancy. Wasn't absolutely terrible, wasn't the best. Besides the fact that our drinks were empty after our first plate and stayed empty the entire meal. Our server never asked how the food was, if we could have more to drink or to take our plates until she dropped off the check. If this wasn't the only Chinese place in Salem, I wouldn't have come here. read more

With a buffet it's convenient. Quality of food is good if you like Chinese. Menu has changed to mostly chicken and veggies. For now it's only take out which is a shame because they redone all the furniture and the bathroom is nice and clean. It is locally owned and operated. read more

Excellent Chinese food. Also they have sushi and Japanese cuisine available. The buffet is well stocked and contains a huge variety of foods. My favorites are the crab rangoon, sesame chicken, and stick chicken, but everything there is tasty. read more

My family and I ordered take out today. We ordered hibachi dinners and a couple of sushi rolls. The hibachi as a whole (protein, veggies, and rice) lacked flavor and only ate a few bites before tossing it in the garbage. I've been to this buffet twice now and both times have been pleasant. Even though I did not thoroughly enjoy the food here I cannot knock them because they are catering to the small town country folk palate. The residents of Salem are unaccustomed to the strong, complex flavors or genuine Chinese food so the way this restaurant's cooks prepare their food is understandable. The staff are polite and readily available if you need anything. Overall I rate this place as a great. read more

I eat here at least once every other week. Large selection of the typical items found on a "Chinese" buffet. All food seems fresh and replenished on a very regular basis. Family owned so ask if you have a special request. They have a Mongolian grill and will cook your food while toy watch. Sushi is also available but not fresh-made. Best times are weekend evenings and Sunday lunch. The lunch buffet is very popular. By the way, don't miss the Sesame chicken. Excellent! read more

Excellent food and inexpensive. A friend and I had a great lunch there. The food is really good and fresh. Our bill was $15.08 for the both of us, including drinks. The lunch buffet is $6.45 and all soft drinks or tea is $1.00. The dinner buffet is $8.45 each and includes seafood, also very good. The staff is very nice, an overall great place to go. I read John's review and decided to try Express China takeout since I was picking up a load at Peerless down the street. The atmosphere in the restaurant was nice enough that I almost decided to stay and try the buffet. The staff was friendly, the food was prepared to order quickly, and I quite enjoyed it. I had chicken with garlic sauce & fried rice. The heat and the flavor were very pleasing and I would most definitely eat their food any time I am in Salem, Indiana. This is the only Chinese place I'm completely sure about. A lot of the other places have bizarre variations on standard recipes, but this place is excellent. The buffet is always stocked and they'll even give you some chopsticks if you want! read more
