I hate shoes. I hate shoe stores. I hate shopping for shoes. I hate having shoes on my feet…read more But dammit, summer is here, and I needed a pair of sandals. The only trouble is that I've never worn sandals before. For over ten years it's been flip flops until it snows. And then flip flops after the first thaw. And I wanted to find some sandals that were just like flip flops. They needed to be waterproof and let my toes fly free. But they also needed to offer better support, because I'm getting old and my beloved flip flops were no longer cutting it. Oh, and did I mention that I'm almost impossible to fit? My feet are huge weighing in at size thirteen, and thank to my maternal-grandfather I've inherited his genetic mutation of a hammer toe on my left foot. The morning I walked into Track N Trail I was desperate. I had already been to a few other stores in the mall, and they were my last hope. There was one lone clerk manning the store, and he worked tirelessly to get me into a pair of something called Chaco's. And by tirelessly, I mean that we must have tried on over a dozen different brands and styles of sandals until we found one that worked. Now, I know some people are happy to buy their shoes on Zappos.com. That's what people were advising me. But I needed a bit more hand holding than that. And I can assure you had I not had the guidance and support of an actual human being that morning, I never would have found my way to this particular pair of foot ware. Which I have to say, I'm starting to really love. Yes, they are crazy expensive for what amounts to a piece of rubber strapped to my foot with some nylon. But they are designed or approved by foot doctors, and they are everything I want in a flip flop, but in the form of a sandal. Thank you Track N Trail. I hope this pair of sandals lasts me for a million years so I never have to go shoe shopping again. But if I do, I'm coming here first.

My shoe shopping experience, and now my wifes normally goes as follows: I try out all the discount…read moreshoe stores first, and find that it's all crap. Then I try the department stores, and find the same sort of thing. I check on-line, get the shoe in the mail, try it on, hate it, then ship it back. Then I go to Track and Trail, find a shoe that I fall in love with, find that it costs only mildly more than the crap I was looking at, and buy it. They also sell other accessories, such as socks and shoe care products, all top of the line stuff. And not to forget, the service is always great. I've never had a bad experience shopping here, and at this point, most of my shoes, as well as my wife's Caterpillar (as in the bulldozers, and just as well made) boots have come from here.

I was surprised to see one in Albany when I visited Crossgates for the first time in a couple years. It's like a lower end H&M, with a heavy focus on trendy and novelty items. They have stuff for women, men and kids as well as a small amount of home decor and beauty products. This store is not nearly the size of the one in Boston but still good sized. Many items are inexpensive and low quality but they also have decent stuff that is not high quality but doesn't need to be. For example, they have great, cheap flip flops, shoe covers to use in your luggage and collapsible nylon bags for your packing. I also really like their hair accessories which are an amazing deal and trendy. They also are a reliable spot for basics like tanks and tees. I always enjoy stopping in Primark and usually find something. This visit I scored some nice nylon, packable totes for traveling. The one in Boston was a great spot to get tissues and beauty products like sponges and Q-tips but I couldn't find any of those things at this location, but will check back again while I'm in the area. No service whatsoever, it's self checkout and you have to scan your receipt yourself to exit the checkout area.

Not only did the mall seem busier than normal, Primark seemed to be getting a lot of foot traffic also. A quick perusal by my wife and she determined that they did not have anything that she was looking for. This is neither a high-end store nor is it at the level of a Walmart. They did appear to have clothing for the entire family, cosmetics, and accessories.
