So, I said okay thank you. Yet , the middle aged white lady who was right behind me was allowed to stay. So, people with integrity, people of color please take your money elsewhere. I've never had a bad experience with expo nails until today, I went in asking for a set I previously gotten done by them yet this time it wasn't the same lady. This time I got Keke and her daughter, her daughter seems clueless and doesn't know what she's doing. Her daughter did not take her time and when I asked her to fix her mistake she told me there'd be an up charge, I shouldn't pay for your mistake that's ridiculous. got a pedicure, it was nice, the nail tech went digging into my toes and pulled out my ingrowns, then it got infected, i don't think nail techs should be messing with your ingrown toenails seeing that they're not certified podiatrists. so now i left with painted nails, but a infected toe on top of it. read more

Not only did the woman cut a chunk of the side of my toe nail off that would for sure cause an ingrown toenail-she then used the wrong side of her tool and CUT a chunk of my skin off! Some employees have recently quit and the owner, Polly, has new staff. The nail tech constantly cut my toes with the utensils. He never said sorry. It was not until I began to bleed and yanked my foot back that he said sorry..which was the fourth or fifth time he cut me. The only satisfying part about the pedicure was the massage. He filed my left big toe crooked. When i asked him to fix it, it was then way shorter than the other toe. Just ugly. No tip sir. I proceed to get my full set by the owner, Polly. After discussing soaking my nails off, she still cuts them off first. Not even straight or neat. Just quick, raggedy, and uneven. I asked why she cut my nail. She said well you're getting a full set. Once again, why did you have to cut my nails? My nails were the same length as the tips. Grew them out for nothing. Whatever. Continue ma'am. You've already begun. She also cut me 2-3 times. Never said sorry. My thumbs were not filed properly. I asked her to fix it. She fixed it as best she could but that took polish off. I asked her to fix it. Since she had an appointment, she asked her associate to fix it. When I say this lady literally just added on shellac, put my hands in the dryer and tried to call it a day? I said no, this does not look right. No. Polly then said she would fix it. I told her I did not have time and would come back the next morning. I did. She redid the nail or nails that were messed up. I showed her where all my cuts were on my hands and feet and made it known that I should have mentioned it yesterday. I showed her the finger that was bleeding from her reckless drilling. She touched it and said "i don't see blood." i just had to pause and stare at her for 3 seconds. I told her yes, you made me bleed yesterday. It is dried and cleaned now, but still red. She is just looking at me. I told her about my toes, i told her why i didn't tip either of them. She just stared at me. No type of comfort. It's my own fault for continuing to go back to a business with poor customer service, mediocre work, and prices that constantly change, all because they are right down the street. Pros: They got the three of us in quick, seemed clean and the male techs were polite. Cons: we got the deluxe pedicure. Not worth the money. My tech did not put in the time or effort. She was done in 20 minutes, while my two girlfriends had the male techs and they got the same thing and got their money's worth. I sat there for another 20-25 mins when we started at the same time. She used tissue to seperate, and only did one coat, and didn't bother to clean the paint up. Then just walked away and didn't come back. Very displeased for the price. Would not recommend. read more

Polly has been doing my nails for the past two years. They do an amazing job. I had to take my 5 year old daughter with me last week while I got my fills. She got her nails and toes painted too! They even went so far as to paint little flowers on her toes. She was so tickled with the attention. Most places pay little attention to kids, but the extra attention really made my day, not to mention my daughter who told everyone that would listen about the nail lady putting flowers on her toes. I moved Downriver & needed a go-to nail salon closer to my house so I headed to Expo Nails to give them a test drive. They were fairly clean & the nail area is updated and comfortable. The only area that raised some red flags is the sink where they have you wash your hands... It's not particularly salon-friendly as it exposes the back area where there is storage and cleaning supplies. I liked how their polishes are cataloged but the selection is not as large as I would have liked (however, I'm super picky and test out 5 shades of the same color as still feel unsure) The male tech I went to was very meticulous and shaped my almond acrylic nails perfectly. It was a nice balance of meticulousness and speed. He applied an OPI product to my nails after he painted them which dried them in NO time! I always get antsy to leave around polish time and usually mess my polish up when I rush out so this is a big plus! A week and a half later, my acrylic nails are still looking except for two nails which I picked at. The acrylic seems a bit brittle and easily broke once I started messing with it. I suppose that's a mixture of my own bad behavior with slightly defective nail application. Hopefully next time I get a more sturdy fill in but for now, Expo gets 3 stars in my book. read more

I wouldn't recommend this nail salon. Yes it's clean and yes they have a huge amount of clients on a regular basis however whenever cheap products are being used of course your clients will become regulars. I have had to go back on 3 different occasions to get my nails repaired because they kept lifting only after getting a fill-in a week prior. I don't do dishes everyday, my hands are not constantly in water. So I've come to the conclusion, "What works for some don't always work for others". I'll stick to Wonder Nails in Southland Mall. This nail salon has a nice layout, is clean, and has plenty of seats for both pedicures and manicures. I didn't feel super welcomed when I came in, but my nail tech took his time and made sure he coated my nails perfectly with the shellac polish. I have been going since they first opened and it was just Tim and Polly. Everyone has always been great here except for one of the male techs and one female tech (not sure of their names), but the man must be the same one that Lori (her comment is below) mentioned. He is very rough! He did a pedicure on me once and dug into my toe really hard and made it bleed. Ever since then I have always gotten someone else there. Got my nails done yesterday and had that same male tech. I left there with 7 of my cuticles on my fingers bleeding and sore! His table is the 3rd table away from the clock down at the end. My mom had him once for a pedicure too. He is very rough. Had my acrylic nails removed and asked if they could be soak off, which I guess they don't do and see the female tech (I think her name is Kelly) and she took a fake nails and shoved it under my acrylic and ripped them right off in about 5 minutes and while doing so jammed the fake nail she was using into my own thin nail and caused bleed and yes it hurt when she ripped off the nails. It is very convenient to come here but after the last few times of bad service, I will not go back. I'm too afraid of getting infections, etc. This nail salon used to be great at one time, but not anymore. read more

I am now 24 and moved away from Flat Rock but I still make the 20 min drive to see Polly and Tim! Always clean, sterile tools and actually take time doing your nails. I'm writing this review while I am experiencing everything. I made an appointment, and made sure I didn't get male technician since I'd read the previous reviews. Immediately after I walk in, I hear yelling back and forth between technicians in what I'm assuming is Vietnamese. While I have no problem with them speaking in their native tongue, my issue is that my technician sits down and grabs my hands and starts filling my acrylics in without any greeting, asking me if I want any style of anything. What made it worse is that she tore up my cuticles while she was filing because she was looking up yelling at her coworkers! I made it clear she was hurting me and she just moved on to the other hand! When it was time to dry, she would just shove my hand to the dryer and not say anything. I knew she spoke English because she asked me to pay before she painted them. She somewhat redeemed herself by being kind enough to find a color that better fit the picture of what I asked for, and helped carry my bag to the drying station. I work in a customer service position of a Fortune 500 company, so I know good service. I'm not by any means high maintenance, but I'm not coming back. read more

Horrible! The people who work there are very pushy and do not care about the quality of their work. They were always trying to get me to spend more money on designs or gel coat. They are very rough and not gentle on your hands, I swore my entire nail was going to pop off when I had acrylics put on and they were filing them down! I couldn't put pressure on my fingers for 2 days because my fingers were so sore from the rough filing / cheap products they use for acrylic. Painful and very sloppy work not to mention they do not listen whatsoever to the requests of their clients or care to fix mistakes once pointed out. With a few hours to spare before catching a flight I decided to get a pedicure my child was with me so I did a full pedicure and they just got a polish change. We waited a long time for our nails to dry and when we left we both wore flip flops. 2 hours later we both switched into crocks. When we had to take our shoes off for security I found that the polish had peeled off. This has never happened to us before. I had polish on 4 nails and my child had polish on one. Went here for a special occasion to get a pedicure and got my feet and legs seriously man handled! I asked the guy 3 times to please be more gentle as he dug in around my cuticles and scrapped the top of my nail with force and either he did not understand what it meant or did not care because he did not let up any! He cut too much skin off the sides of my big toe nail making it very tender and sore, he hardly touched the bottom of my feet and did not get the dead skin off at all, my foot felt very dried out later that evening and looked like there was a white residue of some sort left on it. It was the same with the massage on the calves, there was nothing relaxing about it at all, he was rubbing knuckles across my shin bones and pinching under my knee where it hurts, not where it feels good, completely missed any muscle tissue, there was a lot of grabbing of the arm rest and pulling back of my legs by me through the whole thing, he would stop when I did this and I would again ask him to please be more gentle but then go right back at being rough, the best part of the entire process was when he wasn't touching me and put the hot towel on my legs, I actually had a chance to sit back and relax myself for a whole minute! Honestly, it was so painful the entire time I could not even enjoy the chair massage because I was constantly cringing. The reason I didn't say anything else about it while I was there is because I didn't want to make a big deal about it in front of my husband, I was going to chalk it up to one bad experience and not ruin our day out together and because I had been trying to convince my husband to get a pedicure for years and I had finally lured him in for a pedi as a surprise gift so I wanted him to have a good experience, he did enjoy it as he likes a good hard massage, he is a burly man! I usually do not go to Expo nails, I go somewhere else but had I drove my husband anywhere near the other place it would have given my surprise away and he may not have gotten out of the car so I chose this place. After it was all said and done, by bedtime my big toe hurt so bad it was swollen and very red and sore, so much so that I hardly slept, by the next morning it was infected and I was making an appointment to see my Dr! I have not gone back for a refund, nor do I plan too, I just want this review to be a warning to anyone thinking about going here! read more
