That said, I have moved as far as an hour away from Strands and back to the Downriver area and no matter where I lived, it was always worth the trip for the best haircut and color services in the tri-county area... Shayla is magic. She has such a natural instinct about hair and how it should feel, how the colors should blend, and how layers should fall and flow. She can comb through my hair once and she knows what kind of stupid thing I tried to do to it on my own (e.g. coloring over poorly done cap highlights). I have strayed every so often trying out places closer my house, but I always go back to Shayla for the next cut to "fix" my hair. Shayla isn't the only stylist to trust here though; everyone is really nice and talented as all get out. Tips: If you're looking to get highlights or a color service, prepare to be there for a couple hours and to be moved around a little bit. They are almost always busy and you will move chairs to sit while your color processes, then move to be shampooed, etc. Book your appointment a few weeks ahead if you want your service on an evening or Saturday. Walk-ins are easier most weekdays after lunch time. They are a unisex salon, and do a great job with men's hair, but if you're looking for an old-timey "shave and a haircut", they have a licensed barber during the week (not sure on specific hours or cost, but it's probably more than two bits, lol)...

For a wedding im attending next weekend, and 2 because in Florida they charge $300+ and i have short hair... Normally Melissa got my hair on point of what i asked. I went in to this salon blonde with some orange and i showed her picture (below) of what i wanted done, she told me that she will get me as close as possible. When she was putting dark in my hair i told her i didn't want any dark in my hair she said no worries its just ash tone to make it how you want it... and that dont i "trust" her... when she was washing my hair i told her it definitely looked to dark. She told me wet hair lies, once done blowdrying it she told me that it looks great and that she loved it.( i said it was darker than what i wanted) she then said she had to "color correct it" she NEVER NOT 1 TIME said she wasn't going to be able to get anywhere close to what i wanted... If she would have told me i would have told her that i wanted something different like blonde in general because I wanted to stay blonde and work towards icy blonde... and I really wanted to be icy white blonde for the wedding, i never wanted to go dark and in fact I've been trying to go blonde and i was almost finally to blonde, I looked at it and i started crying because it was NOTHING like what i asked for.. actually it was far from it. After making an appointment for December she then texted me hours after and said she was no longer able to do my hair because i stressed her out and that she takes pride in her work... well if she takes pride in her work why didnt she apologize for making me dark.. insted she just kept saying "i like it" " it looks good on you" she even took me outsidw to show me that it was lighter outside and said it will light up with a couple of washes.... I don't care if it looks good on me or if she likes it... its my head and my hair and i didnt like it.. she should have offered a refund when she said she cant do my hair anymore, or better yet should have offered to FIX my hair without charge because she did not do what i asked. I've spoken to multiple people who have done are are still doing hair and they said "she should have never added dark because you want icy blonde" and " I don't understand why she made you so dark".... Im so beyond upset and the fact she did NOT take accountability and just decided to take the easy way out by saying she can no longer do my hair was absolutely WRONG of her. Honestly I would have been okay with an apology and a I'll fix it for you and then we need to part ways but instead she just said I stressed her out ( all because I told her my feelings and because I was in tears) which should have been completely understandable because it is NOTHING like what I asked for.... Im so disappointed and this was an absolute disaster!! I can NOT recommend anymore, Because going to her for 7 years of going to her she will apparently not listen what you want apparently she takes to much pride and decideds to do whatever she wants. 100% disappointing and now I have to spend another probably $200-$300 to get it fixed and at that point I should have just spent the $300+ dollars here in Florida and got exactly what I was asking for instead of paying for an $80 flight and $185 for her to mess my hair up.
