I find it ridiculous in the amount of time it takes to get your child! You have to get there about 20min early (just to be able to be in some what front of the line) & of course still wait till the time they are out to not only wait another 15-20min to just get finally receive your kids!! & for some reason (I find completely use less) while your sitting in your car waiting a teacher/staff member comes walking between the lanes w/ a tablet to ask and mark down your children's name, as if we were ordering something and waiting in line to get to the window and receive your order lol. WHY DO THEY MARK IT DOWN? DON'T KNOW? it's honestly not like it makes it any faster! sure makes it seem like they are organized in doing so, but I asked my child one day & she said they just say "okay (child's name) your parent is here get ready" as a type of warning Im sure? but then she added on & said "but sometimes I can't hear who they say because it's really loud & I get in trouble if Im not ready because I wasn't listening". We tried EKA for a semester and did not like it at all. We needed an online school for my daughter and thought it would be a good fit. The online classes were a computer program for each subject and a teacher, not at the school but I believe out of state, would "check in" on her or us. There was one teacher in charge of her online program at the school. When they did state testing they had to be in the school right next to other students, so it was crowd and it was loud. They also had to take all their tests on one day. This is not a school I would recommend, unless your child is good learning completely on their own and with a computer's time line. read more

My review was taken down last time by EKA because they silence students instead of helping them, so here it is again. I am a previous student of EKA. I attended EKA from my 4th grade year through my sophomore year. The teachers are great and will forever hold a special place in my heart. However admin and the people in charge of the school are unprofessional, disrespectful, and simply do not care about the genuine well being of their students. All they care about are their numbers and graduation rate. During my time there I myself was sexually harassed by boys who have attended the school longer than I had. I didn't say anything but it was ultimately a major contributing factor to why I left. I have very close friends who still go there and they are experiencing the same sexual harassment but even more escalated than it was when i was there. When this was brought to admins attention they did little to nothing about this. The boys behaving this way have harassed my friends online and in person but the schools response was "you guys need to grow up and ignore it". They have defended these boys to no end. The school broke multiple codes of conduct in the way they handled this, and ultimately made already concerned students voices feel invalidated and small. I could not recommend this school any less. I'd also like to add that Hope responded to my last review saying that we wouldn't know if there was an investigation because they don't tell us, while i can't speak on that I will say that doesn't justify how they responded to the students who reported the incidents and told them they were wasting the schools time. read more

Horrible school. There was field day with water slides/stuff. we're allowed to wear swim shorts. Alot of girls were the same thing as me swim shorts yet when i was minding my business the art teacher Ms madson with her called me a hochie meaning "a sexually promiscuous young woman. Promiscuous means having or involving many sexual partners, not restricted to one or few. For example, someone who is promiscuous may regularly rotate through many sexual partners, have one-night stands with partners they never see again, or sleep with people of various genders. I love this school! My kiddo knows that she has multiple adults at the school who are there for her if she ever needs help, or just someone to talk to. If I ever have a question, it is super easy to reach out to the teachers via email and get a fast response. Since the school is small, at least compared to the district schools, and has multi-age classes, she has friends in her grade and those in grades close to her own. I love that the secondary students get chances to go down and read with the elementary students and I love the school events. This place rocks! read more

I had problems from 1st grade all the way to 12th grade. all because I would stick up for my child and that unfortunately made her a target, as the staff is immature and unable to separate parent from child. but the reason I'm writing this review is because they prevented my child from walking with her class for an outfit that would have been covered with a robe. you'd think with covid they would have had a little more compassion for their students. this wasn't the first time that dress code had been an issue, I would have to bring her a new outfit almost everyday even for outfits that i thought to be appropriate for a young lady. Middle school and high school programs are a joke- kids get to sign up for an "elective" class once a month such as bracelet making, playing with legos, life skills-where they teach kids how to boil water on a hot plate to make soup and how to change a tire. They tout themselves as project based learning with an emphasis on STEAM, but they are not. The schools main focus seems to be hiring under qualified staff for cheap and training them to be teachers, firing the qualified college educated teachers that question their poor leadership decisions, and separating parents from their money with constant fundraising and asking for donations that don't seem to fund anything for the kids at the school, but the superintendent gets a raise and a new car every year. read more

Teachers take a huge interest in more than meeting the minimum requirements given by the state. They go above and beyond. I love that they teach meditation, and empathy. I find it astonishing there are so many good reviews about this school because It's been an absolute nightmare from beginning to end, There is zero communication between parents and teachers, You call and leave a message for a teacher and receive no call back. It's near impossible to get a message through at all, I don't know if the messaging service on the EKA website is flawed or the staff and teacher's just don't care but I've attempted on several occasions to contact my 2nd graders teachers and received no response. I've written letters, same thing. I'm just so frustrated I can't believe their able to be run this way. I would strongly discourage any parents looking into this school to steer clear and look elsewhere if you care about being involved in your child's education at all. My daughter has gone here for Kindergarten & 1st grade. So far we are both happy with the facilities and the teachers. I really like the experience my daughter gets presenting the numerous projects each year, and for us, the 4 day weeks work out well. The drop off & pick up valet does take a little getting used to, and is a bit of a pain at the beginning of each school year with everyone learning the routine, but after a week or so it's pretty smooth sailing and I like having my kid taken out & put in my car with no far walk to her classroom. Its nice to go into the office and have the staff know my daughter by name because it is a small school. One downside though, is that there are no art/music/PE teachers. a month ago The Only reason I stayed at this school for so long was because of Webster, Smith, Mama T, Miss B Mattson, and McIver, Otherwise this school is a joke. Ive been going to this school since 2013 and ever since 8th grade things at this school have changed and not for the better. The school principal is horrible and doesn't listen to parents concerns. School culture sucks pretty bad. She just explains problems away rather than addressing them. They give way too much homework and the kids struggle to keep up, and these are straight A students that work ahead. For a charter school, they sure don't work to push the kids forward to their full potential, instead they would rather saddle them with so much homework they lose their love for learning. Some of the teachers teach that gay is good and get into social issues that have nothing to do with the subject they are teaching. Look be kind to everyone but don't promote. Let kids be kids. This school is very disappointing. I can't wait to have my kids leave this school. First off, my kids share a classroom with a different grade level. And classrooms are separated by partitions like a cubical. There pick up and drop system is unorganized!! One way in and one way out!! You're dead if there is a fire. They block Mountain Vista street causing massive traffic havoc! Anyone and anything can attend this school. You can go to this school in your pajamas. Their staff seemed to not give a shit. Do not waste your time with this place. I have put a lot of time and energy into finding the best school for my child. After researching EKA, exploring their website, speaking to other parents and educators, I thought I had found a contender, but boy was I wrong! I called EKA to gather a bit more information, and decided to set an appointment to tour the school. I arrive at the school two days later for our tour and to pick up the enrollment paper work as previously arranged. It took less than three minutes in that building to cross this school off of my list, permanently. First, we were greeted less than enthusiastically with a bothered, "hold on a minute", by a very nondescript gentleman. I'm being kind and using the term "gentleman" very loosely. Next, a woman (again, without introduction) inquired as to why we were there. After I explained that I was considering enrolling my child and was there to learn more about their program and tour the facility, as discussed during last weeks' phone call, she barked, "Well, have you looked at the website...everything you need to know is probably on there." .......Yes. I've viewed the website and that's what initially drew me in to consider a tour. She then told me that they are not doing any tours and doesn't know if and when they will be. (?????!!!?!?!???What the......) *deep breath* If that's the case, then why was I told I could schedule this appointment to come in today for a tour and enrollment guidance?....."I don't know. We are not going to give a tour. If we do anymore, it won't be until umm...well...umm...maybe sometime in July. Well, ok. In that case I'll make sure everybody knows not to waste their time here. Have a great day! I mean seriously, if you can't be polite, courteous, keep your scheduled appointments, or give correct and accurate information, at the very least, be apologetic for any misunderstanding that may have occurred (even though there was none and this was just pure sloppiness and laziness on their part- at least try to placate me with a standard customer service 101 apology). My son started Kindergarten at EKA last fall. I had been researching schools since he was a toddler. We asked parents, visited schools, went to many orientations and researched online. We felt EKA was the best fit for our family. I love that they are project based and mix technology (every student has an iPad) with traditional (and non traditional) learning. I also like that they have longer school days and 4 day week (off Mondays). The teachers and staff have been great. My son has an IEP for speech. I mention this because of one of the negative reviews below. I have not had any issues or problems with his services. Also want to note they do have a separate resources room with specialized teachers as Heather A mentioned. Drop off and pick up can take a little getting used to (they have a valet system) but once you get the hang of it, it is not a big deal. I am so happy with our choice and looking forward to enrolling my twin girls in a few years. read more

Both of my children attend the school. We commute from Summerlin and I have yet to find a reason not to. After navigating the private, public, and homeschool options in education here in Las Vegas we finally found the perfect fit for our family. I feel as though my children are getting an excellent education comparable to that at a private school. I have found the teachers and the administration to be accommodating. I love that the school offers iPads for every student, small class sizes, healthy lunch options and having an advisory class every day is a great mentorship program for both the older and younger children. Having a four day school week works well for my family. My children use Mondays to catch up on any school work, work on projects, read, volunteer-and hopefully in high school be able to work part time. I think this is an excellent college preparatory school. read more

This school is amazing, and so are all the teachers. After having enough at Treem, we decided to give this academy a change, and we cannot be more pleased. The facilities are good, the communication with the staff, the teaching system, programs and technology. For the first time my son is getting ahead and having good grades. He has learned to be more responsible, and is learning how to do projects in groups. The provide the kids with many field trips and the activities are completely different. The drop off / pick up time is way better, secure and safe. Being organized shouldn't be a reason for people to complain. I cannot describe how my son loves this school now!! read more

This is my daughters 5th year attending this school. It has been wonderful for her! It is so much better than the regular public school my daughter attended!!! Overall, the teachers have always been excellent at responding to our emails, voice messages and concerns promptly. In all the years at the school, I have a only had a serious communication issue with one teacher and when discussed with the principal it was handled promptly. The projects can at times be a lot of work but it is worth it. We have learned that it is all about using the time wisely and having her start on her project right away and work on it weekly so it is not a rush just before it is due. We have seen our daughter grow so much through the experience and she is much more confident when speaking in front of people! We also love that every weekend is a 3 day weekend! This will be a multi-part review. First, I attended the orientation and this is what I saw. The classrooms are located in large rooms which are blocked off with partitions (similar to what is used for cubicles in a work place). The grades are grouped 2nd-3rd and 4th-5th (I'm unsure about any other because those are the grades I needed). All the kids have their own IPAD, which are not allowed to be removed from the classroom. Second, I attempted to enroll my child who is special needs. I was informed that there is not a separate resource room and that resource is essentially combined in a small group and taught by a regular teacher. I was also informed that even if my child is behind in learning I am not legally allowed to hold my own child back (of course this was not a licensed attorney) a grade. I have to allow the child to be continued to be pushed through to the next grade and next grade. LOL. And this would be what is wrong with the children in the state of Nevada. I am actually thankful that they did not accept my child because I would not want my child to attend a school that thinks they are too good to have my special needs child. read more

The only reason I am not giving this school one star is because of teachers like Quinn, Matson, Perich, Kino, and Ms. T. I have been a student at this school since 4th grade (I'm in 7th now). When I was in 4th and 5th the school was fine the only thing was the teachers jumped to conclusions a lot and I often got in trouble for things I didn't do. Then I went to middle school and my god, how bad things got. Most of teachers are rude and teach your mental state like a joke, like Lujan. My friend was crying and upset because of something that happened and I was trying to calm him down when all of the sudden Lujan said "Were is the baby?" I looked and said that's mean, and said well he's acting like one. My friends was having a mental break down and Lujan called him a baby and told him to do work or he would give him a detention. Then on another day my other friend was trying to do work for another class because we were having a study hall and he wouldn't let her. There is also a lot of drama and bullying. I am bullied because of how I look and how I act. I am Non- binary and I get bullied because of it and a lot of LGBTQ+ kids get bullied. Kids get bullied because of their sexuality, gender, how they act and how they act. When you tell a teacher they barely investigate. My friend who is trans gets bullied and called names everyday. I had to talk them down from hurting themselves because of the bullying. Then there's the drama there is so much drama it isn't even funny. People start spreading rumors about everyone, causing friends to stop being friends kids hurting themselves and just make it a miserable place. My mental state and self- esteem have jumped to zero from being at this school. I would think before you send your kid here. I used to adore this school until I got to high school. I'm not saying that all the people there are bad, a couple of the teachers actually left a serious mark on my life. I adore some of them. But most of the teachers just don't care how the students are doing. The guidance counselor told us before we took our CRT's that we couldn't do bad because it would reflect poorly on our school. Quote on quote. Then there was some anti-gay bullying going on, so I got together an entire plan for a Gay Straight Alliance and was brought into the Administrator's office for speaking about it and talking it up. She told me that we could not have a Gay Straight Alliance because it would "make it so they have to open the school up to the Klu Klux Klan." Quote on quote. They broke federal law by not allowing us to open a GSA or speak of it all while allowing other non-curricular clubs to take place in the school. Not to mention they were doing seminars once and had offered Flag Football as one extra class, and then took all the girls that signed up for it & placed them in a All-Girls "all sports class." The girls were all grouped together for one sham of a class where we practiced a bunch of different sports & didn't even do any real playing while the guys played football. This is in response to Alexa P. One of the uttermost concerns for schools is the safety of the children. At your school, a staff member checks each car to confirm that the child is picked up by an approved adult. Your child's name is written down so that there is a record if needed. It wouldn't be a safe situation if students were allowed to leave without first making sure they are safe. The pick up/drop off line up may feel cumbersome and inconvenient, but, again, it's about keeping kids safe. It prevents students from running (even if the pick up vehicle is just one car away) across a parking lot to get in a car. It is the best way to keep things moving, albeit a slower pace, in exchange for safety. Finally, when that bell rings signaling the end of the school day, students are excited to go home and it may be more chaotic. Perhaps a teacher only says, "Okay, your parent is here." That, too, is to keep that pick up line moving along. Having even a brief conversation with a child prevents them from getting in the car and lengthens the time in which it takes to get out of the parking lot. In other words, it doesn't mean a teacher doesn't care., he/she is just doing their best to get you home safely. If you have one, I'm sure the school would appreciate a new way to organize the situation. read more
