There was some computer issues so we had to wait for over half and hour to get the car. All the cars were electric vehicle. You will also pay a 25$ fee for them to recharge the vehicle. Full charged vehicle can go about 240 miles. We pretty much only used 1/4 of charge because Juneau is only so big. Lol. Did spot a deer near by before pulling out so that was pretty cool.

After clicking "Submit" there was an automated "Submitted" notice on the webpage, but no email confirmation ever arrived (yes, we also checked the spam folder). This left us with no confidence that we had a car reserved, and left us concerned about the security of our personal data. Beginning March 30, we left 4 messages regarding our reservation over two weeks, the last of which went to a full mailbox that could not accept any messages. What's wrong with this picture? At this point we gave up and booked a rental elsewhere. Then we sent an email cancelling the reservation we were not sure we really had, and requested that they delete the personal information we had submitted. Finally on April 15th we received an apologetic response saying that they had deleted our personal data. We had successful rentals from them in the past, but this experience should be a warning.

I was a little nervous since I typically rent from Hertz, Avis, National, etc. - not a local company. But I have to say that Juneau Car Rental was so impressive! Their rate was lower than I expected, the car was right by the ship at 6:30am as promised, and the communication was solid. The car itself was "gently used", so to speak, but very comfortable, sipped gasoline, and a pleasure to drive. Everything was perfect...(so we thought). About 6pm that evening, we were back on the ship and leaving for dinner when my wife realized that she didn't have her wallet. She realized the only place it could be is the car. Our cruise ship had already left port, but we were able to call Juneau Car Rental. They were very professional and able to find the wallet in the car. They priority mailed it back to us and we were very pleasantly surprised to find it had everything intact: driver's license, military ID, credit cards, religious medals, and hundreds in cash! Everything was pristine! These people are the best!!! Definitely rent from them and you can be absolutely sure that they are giving you the very best deal that they can.

We tried our best to drive back to the airport, driving under the speed limit with hazards, cut our day short by 6 hours, only to be told that they knew there was an issue with the car. We lost the keys to the car the morning our flight was set to leave. The car rental window didn't open until 6 and we had a 7:10 am flight... at 6 I called and Dawn C picked up the phone. She immediately hoped in a car and drove to us and gave us an extra key. We raced to the airport dropped the key off and she was even more wonderful about all things chaos, airports, early morning and toddlers :) Even have me a mask to use on the flight home- in the chaos I'd forgotten mine. I've had the good fortune of always traveling with folks that have primary car insurance and can rent a car without an additional cost. This time around, I had to be a big girl and rent my very own for the first time. Budget was arbitrarily selected for this honor. I easily reserved a car online and showed up the next day about 45 minutes early. It's not surprising that the desk was empty since this is Juneau and I was probably the first customer of the day. (Although it should be noted that the other car rental agency desks were also dead but not unmanned.) However, I consider it divine intervention since a freak snowstorm conveniently commenced during those 45 minutes, and if I had hit the road earlier, I probably would have met my demise in some remote location. When my pick up time hit, two fellows magically appeared and quickly had me on my way. The promised ice scraper wasn't in the car, so I had to trudge all of 50 feet back to the desk. I wasn't a huge fan of my Ford Fusion. I don't know if it had crappy tires or what, but it could barely handle the slushy road conditions during the snowstorm. It drove fine apart from that episode, but I'd inquire about tires if you'll be driving in inclement weather. Drop off was just as painless as pick up, if not more so. I've honestly never dealt with a more laid back or stand-up car rental agency before. The same two fellows barely even looked at my gas receipt, handed me my receipt, and had me on my way again. I was even charged slightly less than the estimated price. And no surprise erroneous charges after the fact! I didn't know it was possible for a car rental agency to behave this way.
