Go big or go home was my thought process for my 50th birthday- we booked an Alaskan cruise over a…read moreyear out in anticipation! This was the excursion I wanted most- Seaplane over glaciers! Lunch at a lodge, fresh caught and smoked salmon, hiking a bit of that barely touched land. It's a bit of a walk to the Wings Airways check in and shop- not too bad, but longer thanks to construction. Check in was easy and they can hold bags for you to pick up when you return! Great since we had about 45 minutes to explore before boarding. We got Orange/Orcas group- they have a fleet and each plane seats about 10. I'm mad at myself for not paying attention to who our pilot was- June 22- 9:30am- he was excellent! Has been flying for 13 years, very smooth take off and landing! I knew that someone gets to ride up front with the pilot and my hand shot up so fast when the question was being asked! Birthday girl- me me, pick me. lol- yes, I got front seat- right next to the pilot! Prepare to be stunned. Simply, unequivocally, utterly in awe. I lost count of how many times I said wow. Five glaciers, plus tons of smaller glaciers, jagged mountain peaks and smoothed over mountains, the waterfalls!!! The rivers!!! I felt like my entire being couldn't comprehend the enormity of what I was seeing. Alaska made me feel so small in its vastness. Reminded me how little I've seen or done. Landing at the lodge, it is directly across from Hole in the Wall Glacier. The grounds are glorious- it was buggy outside- and the gracious hosts have bug spray on a barrel head right outside the front door. Our feast was incredible- smoked salmon, caught fresh right downstream from the lodge. A family owed property, they bring in 9 additional hands to work the summer and all stay on the property- self sustained. The food- my goodness. First, I have never been a fan of salmon- but there was no way I was eating chicken at an Alaskan Lodge! The salmon was delicious- cooked perfectly. Everything was delicious- the herbed biscuit- perfection. I tried the spruce tips oil in my iced tea and promptly bought a bottle to take home! And just when you are done your meal and enjoying the atmosphere, they bring out gingersnap cookies- freshly baked. Ginger is great for your stomach, even though I was stuffed, I thoroughly enjoyed the entire cookie. Next up, our naturalist took us on a short hike and talked about the flora and fauna, about the glacier, the local plants that they use daily. I broke from the group to check out the trickle of a waterfalls at the back of the property- enjoyed the quietness of the forest & was grateful for my hoodie to keep the mosquitos at bay. Return flight was just as spectacular. Alaska stole a piece of my heart for sure. Thank you to every staff member between the Wings and the Lodge! You were all fabulous!

We had a very lucky experience when it comes to wildlife seeing eagles, sea lions, and a whale up close and personal. The whale name Kelp came within just a few feet of our vessel when it took its dives. Our captain knew just where to position us for the best views. Our guides were really knowledgeable and gave us tons of information. An added bonus was getting snacks, water and hot chocolate on board. Would definitely recommend this company!

We booked the Mendenhall Glacier and Whale Watching Tour We took a bus to…read morethe whale watching dock and to the glacier area with a bus driver named Rita who was kind and funny. She shared some interesting facts about Juneau on our way there, including how the city came to be named. The whale watching tour was spectacular. Many of these tours guarantee whale sightings and we sure saw some whales - probably at least 3-5, with one coming within a hundred feet of the boat! We also got lucky and saw a pod of orcas. They provide you free snacks on the boat too. Thanks to Jay and Jade for making it such a fantastic ride! Then we went to see the glacier. This part is self-guided and you have ~1 hour to explore. They drop you off next to the Visitor Center and then you can hike some trails if you'd like. Heads up - to hike any of the trails, you have to pay $5 per person, which I don't think is included in this ticket price. We unfortunately didn't have time to do the hike to Nugget Falls, and it also was rainy/foggy, so we couldn't really see the glacier either a little disappointing, but still beautiful. Nothing short of magical, and worth the $!

He was very flexible and his car was immaculate with water bottles waiting for us. It was a great way to see a snapshot of Juneau if you don't have much time. Matt, our pilot, was fantastic, skilled, professional, and made the flight itself feel like part of the adventure. From MENDENHALL GLACIER to CRUISE port…read more Just wanted to share my story here is the pointers to get the quick over view: -Cheaper than the "bus tour" -May be cheaper than Lyft -Convenient -Courteous -Call ahead to see if they have a vehicle that fits everyone in your party -The taxi can pick you up in the parking lot nearest to the visitor center. Lyft has a designated pick up and drop off that is farther away. People the Taxi might be Cheaper!! Used the taxi from Mendenhall Glacier to our cruise. I checked on Lyft and it would have cost $78 (around 5 pm) for our party of 6. I called Juneau Taxi and the person speaking to me was kind, patient and informative. I asked if she could give me a quote for two stops and suggestions for a place to buy heels. Then I asked how long it would take for a taxi to get to us. I saw a taxi and told her I would call back if he was waiting for someone. As I was approaching his van another group came up to him. Thankfully the operator I was talking to earlier radio someone to drive over just in case. Carlita (taxi driver) was waiting for us :) as I was approaching her she asked if I was Kimberly. Just before we got into the taxi a man approached our driver and asked how much it cost to get back to the ship and she quoted give or take $45. We had 6 people in our party and we comfortably fit in to the van. He got charged $70 PER PERSON!!!! He was sitting with other people he didn't know and waiting for the bus. I forgot to pack my heels for formal night. Carlita had a suggestion to buy heels and asked over the radio where we should go. Someone over the radio suggested Alaskan Dames Consignment. Omg, this store had so many cute well taken care of items. The heels that I bought looked like it never had been worn. I had to will my self not to go crazy and only buy what I came for. This impromptu stop cost $5. In total it cost us $50. Carlita asked us if we finished shopping and suggested Alaska T-shirt's. It was a good suggestion because it was near the cruise ship and offered a variety of items. Overall it was worth it for us. This was our second time coming to Mendenhall Glacier. First time we use a bus shuttle to and back. We booked it when we got off the ship. This time we used the public bus $2 each person to get there over a mile walk from port to bus stop. When you get to the bus stop it's over a mile walk to get to the visitor center.

His rides are the most expensive transportation I've experienced globally! On first ride less than 10 minutes for $43 he asked for tip and I said kindly no. On second ride I asked how cost was calculated and rather than explaining he offered to drop from $43 to $25 which is kind but also I'm unclear why prices are so high. He also recommended I get to airport 2 hours early and I was only person in line and am now sitting here with enough time to write this review rather than enjoying an ice cream and outdoor Juneau views

They not only put us on whales but were informative and entertaining. I would highly recommend. Boat was 20 max passengers and very safe and stable. You can walk around the boat for better views!
