Was given a quote over the phone of $15 per pair of Bib Overhauls to hem the length of the legs. I had 2 pairs of overhauls, which was explained to the owner whom I was talking to. She confirmed that the total would be $30 for the two combined. I drove approximately 10 miles to leave them at her shop. My wife was informed that she meant $15 per leg. Which would add up to $60 for the pair of overhauls. When I complained that I was told differently, they acted like I should have know what they meant when it was priced to me. They were very rude, and acted like they could care less about my business. I felt like I was being scammed!!!! Would not recommend this company to anyone!!!!!!!! read more

I was in the market for a new tailor, so I thought I'd try this place out. I walked in, met the owner and had a conversation about how to hem and take care of my jeans. She said they'd be ready in about two weeks. Two weeks later I stopped in and my jeans weren't done. The owner apologized saying she was a little busier than normal, but that they'd be ready in the next two or three days. No big deal - stuff happens. I couldn't stop in during the week, but said I'd stop in the next Saturday. When I came back my jeans still weren't ready. The owner explained that she had some rush orders, where people pay extra to jump the line, and that pushed my request back. I kind of get it, I mean make your money, but I followed the rules and I felt like I was being penalized. After a short conversation, the owner ended up hemming my jeans after I stepped out to run a few other errands, which I appreciated... and she did a really good job. I'm willing to try again because I don't want to give up on a good tailor, but I'll definitely discuss lead times and expectations when I return. read more

This place RUINED my jeans. I went in to inquire about having a pair of PRPS Barracuda (Japanese Selvedge) altered. My inquisition was explicitly about whether or not she could taper the leg slightly (1/2") without cutting or otherwise changing the beautiful purple selvedge line on the out seam. This selvedge line is what defines PRPS premium denim. Mind you, I would not have gone through with the taper if there was ANY chance of the selvedge being altered. The woman told me it would not be a problem at all and I thought we were in complete understanding. I even reiterated my desire to "keep the selvedge line intact." When I picked up my pants, I was horrified to find that the selvedge line had been completely cut off of both legs. I almost cried. After a few minutes fumbling around in the back, pointlessly looking for the now un-attachable remains she re-emerged with a smile (and NO APOLOGY mind you) to offer to "compensate me on my jeans I'd just dropped off." This job being a simple knee patch. I was shocked. She didn't even offer a refund on the taper job. These were $354.00 jeans, and they are now effectively worthless. I could not possibly be more disappointed. I had gone in for a few minor alterations and had been, for the most part, happy with their work. This unfounded level of disregard for my specific request, coupled with a complete lack of understanding as to why the selvedge line was important in the first place has now left me no choice but to once again start searching for a decent tailor in Kansas City. I'm beginning to lose hope. read more

I used to have a strong opinion about this place. I've taken many dress shirts for cuff embroidering and was pleased with the result. Some reviews detail poor encounters. To their credit my monograms always looked great. However, The more I do business with them the less I am happy with the service. Their prices randomly change. Last time I was there I was charged around $4-8 but my girlfriend has taken some of my shirts before and has been inconsistently charged up to $12-15 per shirt for the exact same monogram (on file). Forget estimates. They charge $50 for estimates due to "digitizing." The last product I had needed tweaking because it would not turn out as designed. They offered to experiment to produce an example (which was not satisfactory) and I was still asked to pay for their efforts. I was rudely treated that I needed to pay because they "don't work for free." I guess you won't be working for any of my money anymore either. I recommend Carla's Embroidery House KC. A bit far out in Olathe but worth the drive and delivers a far superior product for less money. I'll be moving on from Westwood... read more

Not very pleased with the outcome of my tailoring at this establishment. I specifically requested my sport coat to have buttonholes placed in the cuffs versus just sewing buttons onto the sleeves. I ended up getting two hems on two trousers, some darting on the sport coat, and buttons sewn to the cuffs for $125. This seems like an extremely high price for what I received considering the experiences I have had at other tailors in town. read more

I bought a tweed suit online but something was lost in translation. It arrived too large in the jacket and too long on the pants. They managed to get the jacket tapered spot-on and hemmed the pants just right. Service was quick and easy. I have no comparison for pricing, so to spend $66 to salvage a pricey suit was worth it. I have given them three chances and will never go back. Took them a piece of silk velvet that I wanted surged and four antique appliques applied. I further showed them that I wanted two specific edges seamed together. Showed them, pointed them out to them. They stitched the wrong edges together, rather than stitch the appliques as discussed, they used fabric glue without asking. Rather a bold decision on their part as the appliques were very old, rare and expensive and who uses glue on velvet? Of course, the edges of the applique popped loose before I got out the shop. I ended up reworking the entire thing. The second time, I took a jacket to have the lining hemmed and then asked them to clean it. When they called that the jacket was ready, I went to pick it up and it was cleaned however they had not touched the lining. Had to have another tailor fix it. The third time, I took a leather coat with a snap missing from the cuff. I provided them a package of manufacturers snaps and said "there is one that matches, use it". I went to pick it up when called, and they had applied a non-matching snap. No big deal since I could put my fingernail under the snap and pop it off. I have had trousers hemmed there and they did do a good job on those. However, anything other, they can not seem to manage to get done correctly. From now on sticking to my tailor in Brookside, even if he is more expensive. He's worth it. read more

I had been a repeat customer many times until Expert Alterations incorrectly hemmed a bridesmaid dress and oil stains were found all over the dress virtually ruining a $200 dress. They also incorrectly hemmed two pairs of my boyfriend's pants. What really upset me was the lack of customer service I received from Nicollete in handling both issues.
