Poor customer service. Poor quality products. They don't stand behind their products or their loyal customers. Don't go there.

I recently took my two dogs to Petco at 1419 Towne Square Blvd NW in Roanoke, VA, and I do not…read morerecommend this grooming location at all for any dog. We recently relocated to Roanoke and had the same groomer for over five years before this, and never once had any issues. My blind senior dog was always handled with patience and care, and my service dog actually loved going. He would come back out happy with big pitty smiles every time. So for things to go this bad this fast says a lot. Before the appointment, we explained in detail that my blind senior dog needs time, breaks, and gentle, patient handling or it is not going to go well. None of that was followed. Instead, it was obvious they were rushing her. She started getting distressed and crying, not because she is aggressive or hard to handle, but because she did not feel safe with how she was being treated. We got a call from the district manager Jay, who is their head groomer and trainer, saying she had to "abort her groom." She said as soon as she tried to dry her, she started "wheezing and screaming," and claimed she was trying to throw herself off the table because she could not see it. They then said she was "just not safe for grooming in this kind of situation" and recommended taking her to a vet instead. We were called back in less than 30 minutes and told they were not going to continue. The grooming was never completed. At the same time, my service dog, who normally enjoys going to the groomers, came out scared, shaky, and clearly stressed. Neither of my dogs had a good experience here. What really proves the point is we took our senior dog to a locally owned groomer right after, and they had zero issues. They said she was calm, sweet, and easy to work with, and they actually took their time with her. It was a night and day difference. That tells me it was not the dog, it was how she was handled. This whole experience felt rushed, careless, and just flat out lacking proper handling. Instead of adjusting to a blind senior dog and giving her the care she needs, they gave up and put her right back in a kennel. At the end of the day, it felt like they care more about getting dogs in and out as fast as possible than actually taking care of them. No patience, no adaptability, no real care. I would not trust this location with any dog, especially not a senior or one that needs extra attention.

However, recently I purchased an add-on collar for a 2nd dog on my PetSafe in-ground containment system. The product looked identical to what I needed, but was not compatible. The store refused to allow me to return it because the package was opened, even though I had a receipt and it was within one week of purchase. They won't accept returns on anything electronics, even if completely unused. They told me to call PetSafe, but the manufacturer won't accept it because I didn't purchase directly. I'm now out $160, unless I can recoup some funds via ebay. I've primarily been shopping there for the last couple years only to support a local business. I really can't believe they have left me hanging on this, rather than just accept the product and deal with the back office work of handling a return. When I conveyed that I just like supporting someone local, the clerk responded with, "you ARE supporting us [with this sale], we just can't take it back because the package is opened. Give PetSafe a call." What a joke. Feel free to be a patron, but you better know what you're purchasing because they ultimately don't care.

I'm actually surprised this place has 2 stars. Way to go Petco! My wife placed a pick up order…read morewith my name on it. It was taking a couple days before I could get there and they wouldn't let her pick it up because she placed me as the pickup person so she placed another with her name. She left mine because we could use extra. I went the day after she picked up hers and gave the cashier my name. She said they had no order so I gave them my wife's name and she found it but said I was not the pickup person. I told her I can show her my ID and we have the same last name and same address and she said that wasn't good enough. I tried telling her I was definitely on the order and she still claimed I wasn't. She actually made me call my wife at work and send a picture of her ID. Preaching to me if someone stole my items I would be mad at them. Annoyed? Yes I was. But ok, maybe my wife made a mistake. That being said, the cashier was flat out rude and needs some lessons in customer service. When I got to my car my wife sent me the confirmation emails that clearly show me as the pickup person. I then looked at the piece of paper on my pickup order that clearly says my wife's name and mine. At this point annoyed at all they made me go through to pick up an order I clearly should have been able to without any issues, I go back inside and ask to speak to a manager. And to my surprise, the rude cashier who didn't know what she was talking about was the manager. I believe her name was Shannon or something like that. I am honestly not 100% sure. She was older with grey hair. So I proceed to point out to her the confirmation emails with my name and the piece of paper on my pickup order that has my wife's name and my name and tell her it's messed up that I wasn't allowed to pick up my order without being forced to bother my wife at work. Because clearly I was the pickup person. And that there was no reason they shouldn't have let her pick up the day before because her name was on it too. With a shitty attitude the manager (and I only pray she is not the GM) proceeds to argue with me about how I am wrong. Despite me showing her clear evidence that I was the pickup person on multiple forms. And then proceeded to blame the handheld device. And then finally in a crappy tone said "No, I'm wrong its my fault. No no I'm wrong I guess." And then proceeded to blame the device again. She then went to maybe they gave my wife the wrong order and I showed her no because the confirmation email order number matched the order number on the piece of paper attached to the bag. I finally just told her she needs some serious lessons in customer service and we would just shop at Petsmart. I have never met someone so rude, especially a manager. Or someone to argue so hard that they were in the right even though multiple pieces of evidence show she is clearly wrong. A simple "I am so sorry for the mixup" would have made everything fine. Instead she wanted to be shitty when I thought she was just a cashier and then again as the manager. Petco...get it together.
