What makes it special is watching the pastries being handmade right in front of you, which adds a level of freshness and craftsmanship that you can actually taste. The service was super fast and friendly. The pastel de nata came out perfectly, with that delicate flaky crust and warm custard that just hits differently when you know it was made moments ago. The espresso was equally impressive, rich and smooth, and the two together make for a simple but near perfect combination. If you are in the area, this is an easy and very satisfying stop.

The crust was super flaky and the tart was nice and warm out of the oven, but I didn't like the flavor of the custard. I did forget to add cinnamon to the top, but I don't think it would have helped me personally. The woman who stood next to me at the counter had a nearly orgasmic experience next to me, so it's obvious that my taste buds are apparently off. I loved the patience of the server, who got confused when I told her I wanted to eat in but wanted to take water to go. Note to self...Portuguese folks want to have their "to go" as "takeaway." What I also didn't know was that there was no place to sit!! I scooted down the counter just like all the other folks to watch the bakers prep the next gozillion pastries for the day. That was interesting. Then, I didn't know how to bus my dishes. I just left them on the counter like all the other folks and went away. I wouldn't skip going because of my personal taste buds, though. Enjoy it for yourself and let me know if you have a different opinion than I did!

We were so glad we went, it was an outstanding meal. The restaurant is not large and mainly has seating for 2. Other reviews complained about waits, but it would be worth it. We ate early and were lucky to arrive when another couple was leaving. Service was quick and very friendly--and like many places here they spoke good English. They do not have a wide drink list, but we had a bottle of the house wine that was really good and complemented food perfectly. For appetizers, we had bread basket, miss cheese, and the caprese. Get the bread basket if you get either. I had not heard of that cheese but it was great, semi-soft with a nice flavor. The caprese salad was nice also, fresh tomato's and mint as opposed to basil. For the main course, I had the seafood paella that was served in a hot pan right from the stove. This was excellent with rich saffron flavor and a nice mix is seafood--the calamari and mussels were particularly good. I loved it. With the said, my wife's sea bass might have been better. The whole fish was served, nice and fresh. It was cooked and flavored absolutely perfectly. The skin was crisp while the fish was moist and just melted in your mouth. Completely wonderful. It came with potatoes and some steamed vegetables, a superb dish. Definitely worth a visit!

It's rotisserie chicken doused with a spicy hot sauce so what's not to like? I knew it was a Portuguese-originated dish, so I looked for a place famous for it. Here on a Sunday evening, there was quite a queue extending up the cobblestone alley, so I realized this must be the place. Although it was at least thirty people deep, it didn't take more than twenty minutes for Jamie W and me to secure a table upstairs. It was a homestyle dining room set-up that hovered between cozy and crowded depending on the fluctuating volume level. Interestingly all the servers were male, and while ours was the most junior, he consciously followed the behavior of his veteran brethren. There was no question about our main course, the 13,5€ Frango Assado No Espeto (Roast Chicken on the Spit) (Photo 7). It was tender and succulent enough albeit a bit under seasoned, all the more reason to pour a liberal dose of the piri piri sauce (Photo 8). Our sides were simple but shareable, the 3,2€ Batata Fritta (French Fries) (Photo 9) and the 4,3€ Salada Mista (Mixed Salad) (Photo 10). Both were fine, though we really wanted to try their Cream Spinach. They were already out of it in the kitchen. We were quite satisfied nonetheless, and their service pretty much worked like clockwork. Jamie and I agreed we'd definitely come back if the passion for poultry strikes us on a return trip to Lisbon. In the meanwhile, I'll just do a run to Costco, buy a rotisserie chicken, and dream of Portugal. What's the hype?! We…read morewent on a weekday night and it was full but not packed. We were first in line and seated immediately. A small line of one or two groups at a time formed throughout the night. We were seated outside and there was a street performer with an acoustic guitar - def added some great vibes to the night. It was a chilly December night but the heater provided *just enough* warmth. We ordered the codfish cakes which were alright - nothing too special. Since it was a little cold out, I also ordered the chicken broth. It was bland, but good in its own way. There was some rice and chicken bits in it that tasted really good. The rotisserie chicken that they are known for was EXTREMELY salty. We were a group of 6 and ordered 2.5 rotisserie chicken (so 5 pieces) but this was actually way too much. It's a little better (but still salty) if you don't eat the skin, but that's the best part given how crispy it was! I tried to drown out the saltiness by using the piri piri sauce and it helped a little bit... but biting into the chicken meant biting into the undissolved salt bits. Given how salty it was, we could not finish it at all and left behind 3 pieces. Service itself was meh. They made sure to inform us that the tip was not included in the bill.

We split 4 different slices, but asked them to cut them all in half, which they did. That was... too much food (we ended up eating some for an unexpected pizza breakfast the next morning.) Great pizza, great sauce, great fluffy crust. The flavors we tried - mozzarella and basil (fantastic), pork belly (basically bacon, but very good bacon - fantastic), one other one I didn't appear to have written down, and the mushroom and truffle that we both agreed was certainly mushroomy, but a bit one dimensional. Would definitely come back if we were in Lisbon in the future. It is basically only to-go, which was fine for us, we were staying at a hotel nearby. The do also sell fancy sodas and a great Italian craft beer for, at least as of a little under 3 months ago, 3 euros each, which we also got one of each (also great, especially when you're on vacation and you don't have access to your beer collection like at home. :D)
