All of their shirts (at least from what I can tell) are all made in Hawaii and are well made. The service I received there was exceptional and the sales lady who was helping us was attentive and very accommodating. I ended up leaving with two shirts to add to my collection. The prices are comparable to what you see online when buying quality Aloha shirts. My friend and I had tickets to the Taste of Magic Show at Stowaway Tiki in Tustin and the dress code for our event was luau tiki attire so I searched with my beloved Yelp app and found Exotical Hawaiian Apparel. This place is THEE spot to go to for your Hawaiian attire needs. They had a large selection for men, women and children. Our focus was on the ladies' attire and there were wraps, dresses, skirts, shirts, and of course PLENTY OF ACCESSORIES. The owners were a nice couple who were super nice and helpful, but at moments a bit rough, which is fine. Just remember if you try anything on, they DO NOT want you to put it back... There is a designated spot to put anything back at. That was almost counter intuitive as I would normally put items back at the correct spot to be helpful to the retail industry. The sizes here run a bit small, so don't feel bad if you have to grab a size or two larger than usual, depending on the material of the item. My friend decided on a white wrap with light floral prints and a floral headpiece and she had so many compliments on her outfit. She looked like a Hawaiian Goddess!! In contrast her to lightness, my color scheme was more to the dark side. I went with a Side Tie dress ($53.82 after tax). The side tie allowed me to tighten the stomach area for my dress and define my waistline a bit better than the other styles. Just a warning, this place can be a bit expensive. The dress I chose was not my favorite that I tried on but the cotton one was significantly cheaper compared to a side tie dress in the fancier material that had a more forgivable stretch. As a fan of tiki bars, I can definitely see myself coming back here for more Hawaiian outfits, as they are fairly close to my workplace. read more

Took me back years ago when I used to dance hula and bought my grass skirt, uli ulis and gourd from a Hawaiian shop in Crenshaw Shopping Plaza. They're long gone now, as is Hilo Hattie's (formerly in Orange, CA). I need an Aloha shirt in two weeks for my 7-yr-old grandson. Normally I'd shop online but I'm wary that delivery date would fall too close to my target date, so searched online for a local vendor of Hawaiian gear. Up came . . . Exotical. Of course, I've been to Portos right across the street. And passed it numerous times Intending to stop and take a look but never found time or opportunity. When I walked into the store it was like going back in time - Hula skirts, Aloha shirts, ukuleles, Hawaiian jewelry, straw hats and miles of Aloha shirts for little boys. I had my pick. In fact, there were so many I had to get my husband out of the car to help me narrow down our choices - something I never do. But this was for the boy and I wanted to get it right - color, texture, design. Zeroed in on a lovely shirt. Perfect. Then I wanted a straw hat, but they don't carry them for kids. Makes sense. Kids probably don't wear them. A baseball cap will suffice. Bought a puka shell and tiki necklace. So cute. So traditional. I believe this is the ONLY Hawaiian apparel store around the 626 (San Gabriel Valley) area (there's another Hawaiian apparel store at Torrance - too lazy to drive there). Plus I need a Hawaiian shirt within a week, so I didn't have the time to buy one online. The price for Hawaiian-style swimming pant was actually $10 (the price mark was $30) and the price for most of Hawaiian shirts ranged from $9.99 to $54.99 (few shirts were $80). Hey, I ain't complaining because I couldn't even find a Hawaiian shirt at JCPenney or Nordstrom (they ran out of stocks at this time of the year - end of the summer). Great selections, I was pretty happy with my Hawaiian shirt - so I bought one =). Most importantly, the service was VERY friendly. In fact, the staff actually helped me finding the right size of Hawaiian shirt. This is why I love family owned store. We waited and called the establishment and it said they were supposed to be open at 10 am. We got there at 9 am and waited until 1020 am. I like the new location in Placentia. The new building is less appealing compared to the original store in Downey, but the new space seems bigger, brighter, and more organized. Great to see this family business still running many generations later. My family and I had a trip to Hawaii planned for my parent's wedding anniversary and we needed matching attire stat, since our trip was less than a month away and we didn't have time on our schedule to shop on the island. This place seemed to be the only store in Southern California that carried a good selection of authentic Hawaiian attire, so they were our only hope. The staff was friendly overall, as they helped us find each of our outfits. They were patient and so kind to search their back room inventory as we tried on different styles/prints. One of the owners (John) even went the extra mile when two of our outfits were out of stock for the season. Although they weren't due to place any new orders until later this year, John personally called his vendor in Oahu to have our items shipped to the store immediately, at no additional cost! We were able to come back and pick-up the order that same week. Their prices were not cheap, but they were not horrible either. The quality of the clothes we selected and the exceptional customer service provided by John made them worth the cost. I love tropical shirts; I get most of mine secondhand, but it's nice to "splurge" now and then and get a real one. The owner greeted me, and told my the shirt I was wearing couldn't be Hawaiian because the pocket wasn't lined up. Yep - Tommy Bahama (I got it at a thrift store!). They had a wide selection, and reasonable prices. I could have bought a dozen shirts, if I could afford it! Of course nothing on the discount rack fit me. This place is woefully overpriced. I have been looking forward to coming to this establishment to shop for Hawaiian dresses as well as shop for items for my tiki party, however after browsing through the store I began to notice a pattern: most dresses were around or above $75. These are plain Hawaiian dresses that if you've been to Hawaii know that they run usually half that cost on the islands. I understand that we aren't in Hawaii but the upcharge for each dress was ridiculous. Many of the dresses were even $90, $110 - for a plain Hawaiian dress. The funny thing is that I found a dress that had a tag on it from the previous store for $19 and yet Exotical was charging $85 for it. That's $66 of an increase from the original price of wherever they got it from! That's absurd and it really ticked me off. It's hard to enjoy a store and respect their business when the prices are so outrageous. I chose to give them 2 stars instead of 1 due to the fact that they really do have a large selection. If you're in desperate need of a pretty Hawaiian dress, and money is no object, then you know you can find it here. I, however, will be shopping elsewhere. read more

There are numbers of different leis and not the cheap kind, although they have those too if that's what you're looking for. They have fabrics as well if u want to design or create your own outfit. Also variety of hair flowers, accessories, and hula dance supplies. Everything is authentic and manufactured in Hawaii..that is the reason why the price is a bit pricey..well, for me anyway. But the products are well-tailored and the designs are bona fide! I ended up buying an outfit, on the sale section, for my son. I'm happy with it. He's probably only gonna wear it once since it fits him just right and we have no plan on going to Hawaii anytime soon. The $10 is well worth it! read more

This review is just in regard to their hours. I read other reviews but took a chance. According to their website, business hours listed on yelp AND on their door at the business that I'm staring at right now, they are suppose to be open by 10am. It's 10:25 and business is dark and closed. I can't wait much longer. It's just annoying that hours aren't kept as advertised and a bit unprofessional since it seems to be a reoccuring issue. I used to live down the street from this place and I always meant to drop in and see what they have. And then I move, BUT I have a wedding reception (after our official ceremony) that was going to be a luau theme. I knew exactly where to go to try on a dress... I found them online and verified that they had the dresses I wanted to try on. Yes, I found them cheaper online, but I had to try the dress on since my body shape is weird. I'm short and stalky with a wide waist. Yes, odd... I am so thankful my husband loves me as I am! haha... The service was very sweet, and they had the largest selection of Hawaiian clothing I have ever seen. It is like a gigantic closet of clothes and they had every pattern I could think of (however, I do not peruse Hawaiian clothing but it seemed immense in my mind). The prices are not cheap, but I can say, I bought the dress I wanted from here even though I could get it online cheaper because I want to support shops like this. Mom and Pops, and customer service are what counts sometimes. I have to go back and find more stuff but I suggest people that do hula or have a luau party to check this place out! read more

I felt their pricing was too expensive. If you do not like enclosed spaces or cluttered spaces you should not come here.
