After Maggie I.'s UYE at Vanguard, I was standing outside of this store talking to Tim K., when I…read morenoticed a sign on the step outside the door. It read "penny candy." I had a flashback to my childhood, walking home from elementary school and stopping at the small store on the corner to buy penny candies and other goodies like banana flavored Now & Laters or candy cigarettes. I had to go into that store. Luke R. and Rachel F. were walking by. I pointed out the penny candy sign, and the four of us went in to explore. We found video boxes on display, shelves of candy galore and a fridge with sodas, not a commercial fridge but one like we'd have in our homes. I felt like I went back in time. I think we all did because we giggled and bounced around the store like we were kids! Did I buy any candy? You're damn right I did, and I'd go back and do it again!

What sorcery is this place?…read more And what year is it? And where I am? How have a I not stepped foot into this penny candy + DVD + pinball haven stuck in some sort of completely different dimension before? I mean, it's basically right next door to the Vanguard... It wasn't even on Yelp. I had to add it. Had a blast looking thru all these old-timey candies w/ Rick + Tim + Luke. They had those styrofoam-y UFO things that seemed questionable, sixlets, candy cigarettes, bubble-gum cigars, all the lemonheads/boston baked beans/etc. you could think of and so much more... Also: DVDs, if you're into that sort of thing. Also: pinball, if you're into that sort of thing. Also: a doll collection behind the counter, if you're into that sort of thing. I'm not really sure how this place still exists as a business, but hey! I like it. It's weird. Good stuff, you guys.

Date of visit: July 28, 2025…read more I stopped in here as I am leading an effort to find local vendors that we can order from as part of a holiday gift effort for some of our customers. I perused the store and selected brittle, taffy, and chocolates as part of a taste testing for the whole team to determine which items were the best to consider as gifts for our customers. Staff was friendly and accomodating, and even offered me a sample after I completed my purchase. Oddly, despite spending about $70 and explaining what I was doing with my purchases, I didn't get a receipt. I dropped an email to the store and received a quick reply and was provided with a picture of the receipt that was quite small and blurry, though thankfully our AP department didn't question it too much and I still got reimbursed for the purchase! And if you were wondering, the taffy was surprisingly good, but wasn't labeled on the package in terms of what flavors were in each bag, so that was a big turn off for our taste testers. The chocolates were a big hit and will be a finalist for our customer gifts!

I read about Burke moving in to this Whitefish Bay location, so I wanted to give them a try. I really wanted to give them the highest rating, but unfortunately that wasn't the case. Super cute shop. Has a nice old time feel to it. Walking in to the place, you find a large selection of many different confections. The "factory" is at their other location downtown Milwaukee. Got greeted by two friendly staff members. Very helpful at explaining the different items and offered to allow me to sample (I did have one piece of the peanut butter crunch). You can either get individual items from the case, or there are pre-packed items on the other walls. I got a mix of different items. Ones that I have found can be a big tricky to make. Fairy Food, Marshmallow, and Caramel. And to be honest I was a bit disappointed. Summer can be a hard to time to make/keep sponge candy (fairy food), and some places don't even make it this time of year because the humidity can make it sticky. Marshmallow has a short shelf life and can get tough. This was exactly my experience with these two items. The chocolate itself was very good. And the presentation was also very impressive wit the other items. They did wrap up everything in attractive cellophane bags with ribbon, and placed in a gift bag with a custom ribbon. Perfect for gift giving. So overall a good (but not great experience). I would stop back again, but keep away from some of the humidity sensitive items.

Sea Salt Caramel Corn: Lolli & Pops (L&P) is a chain of candy stores that was founded in 2012. I…read morewish I could expound on that, but their about us/our story section on their website is not very useful. I also can't elaborate much on the shop itself as this tube of popcorn was a Christmas gift. That's okay because it's what I thought of the popcorn that matters, right? Before I share my thoughts, let me clarify what caramel corn actually is. Standard popcorn is mixed with a heated caramelized candy syrup and allowed to cool. Depending on the manufacturer, the caramel corn is sometimes baked in an oven after mixing to increase the crispness. L&P takes there version up a notch by splashing in some sea salt. Although the sea salt is not the strongest, I do have to say that this is still one of the better caramel corns that I've had. It's sweet, crispy, crunchy, and tough to put down. I'm just disappointed I didn't receive one of their more exciting flavors as the website lists: Birthday Cake, Cookie & Cream, Caramel Cold Brew, Peanut Butter Cup, French Toast, and S'mores. So, you can see why I think Sea Salt Caramel was a little boring. Doughboy approved Doughboy_Food_Reviews
