But it was listed by Metro in the no-fee section, which sent up red flags. Every time I'd called an agent about a no-fee apartment, I learned the listing was nothing but a teaser for them to get me in the office and show me all the other places they had, for a fee. When Metro returned my call, it started out very much like the rest: The listing may have been gone already, but many other properties were available. I was about to hang up when Steve Gould, the rental agent, offered to show me the no-fee apartment anyway. So, I met him, he seemed human -- more concerned about the frigid winds that day than making a deal (seemingly) -- he answered all of my questions and offered to negotiate a lower rental price without me asking. I wasn't sure how sincere he was being, but turned out the owner was so interested in getting the place filled that he was willing to drop the rent, which meant Gould would also get a lower finder's fee (paid by the owner). I couldn't have been happier, and obviously did end up getting the place. Before I moved in, Gould also helped me through some maintenance and lock issues since the owner is out of state. If you're looking for a place in metro west, don't hesitate to try Metro. They have at least one genuinely good rental agent who does a lot more work than other agents I've had to work with in the past.

The agents who work there are completely incompetent and only care about their commission. They were careless and arrogant and could not answer a simple question about a form they asked me to fill out. I spoke to the owner, Brenda, because I had a complaint about one of the agents, John, and she yelled at me in her scratched up smoker's voice that I was unappreciative of the work they are doing for me for 'free' even though I would have to pay a fee. Anyways, do not sign anything that comes from Metro Properties. You will regret it for the next twelve months.

The woman was a true professional and couldn't have worked harder on my purchase. My purchase was a bit of an unusual situation and Sharon was "on" night & day seven days a week.
