They had 3 bartenders, making sure everyone drinks were topped off. LOL The band was playing good music, which had a lot of people on the dance floor, including me and van. The buffet style meal was plentiful and delicious. The line for this meal seemed to flow without hiccups. It seemed Venus was in charge of this department. (she works front desk) Job well done I saw Chris (operations manager) running around and making sure things were in place, like extension cords, to make this event happen.. The silent auctions consist of paintings, trip to Mexico, etc... They also had candles for sale. Not sure up this point how this turned out. Augustine, the owner, greeted everyone, making it such a warm welcoming environment. It was nice to see people involved in aviation and being able to meet them first hand. Can't wait till next party hosted by Augustine !!

Park was great - very nice and informative about flying. We took off, suffered an engine problem and had to declare an emergency and return to airport. I rescheduled, but later called to postpone because of a potential conflict and was told there'd be a $50 charge. I said I'd try to make it for scheduled time. I called before scheduled time to say I couldn't make it. The person I spoke to remembered my emergency problem flight and said he'd get back to me - no one has. Cessna 3912R cleared to lose elevator control or "emergency engine out ditch landing" those we're…read morethe words that I would use if me and my partners stuck with Aeroventure in Petaluma. After a few years with them and pretty shady work I recommended a new mechanic. I decided to go with Phil because Ive met him during my flying lessons out of Davis. Flying the same plane every other day (Cessna 65415) I wrote up a few sqwaks. The sqwaks were mostly resovled by Phil seem to do a good job of it. Since I've seen his work, I decided to do our annual inspection through him at Davis Air Repair. Boy am I glad I did. Let me mention a couple major things that should have been caught during the previous annuals but for some reason never came about. 1.Left magento dead at idle. Now I know why the engine floods at idle and felt like it was ready to stall at around 500rpm. I complained about it to my old mechanic and all she did was bump up the idle to 800 rpm. Nice way to hide a bad mag. or maybe she just skipped the whole idle mag. inspection. 2. Elevator cable locked up and frozen at pivot point. Humm, does it look like I have a death wish? WTF? I don't know how long it's been there but my new mechanic said it's seems to be so long that he only could free it a little bit but suggested to get it replaced. 3. Both left and right brake rotors shot and rusted almost all the way through. Wouldn't that be part of annual inspection? A brake system check? I know it didn't take 12 months for rotors to rust through. I can go on and on with my old mechanic. Phil at Davis Air Repair is different. He discovered all the problems wrote them down, had me come in, show, explain, and what my option are if any. He took the time to answer all the questions I had, and did not pressure us into making repairs that were unnecessary. It was like a 2 hour education session included in our annual. Now that I have gone through this with Phil. We pretty much said will be scheduling another annual with u in 12 months. Did I mention he is also very reasonably priced?

Called these folks and I believe the owner himself came out to my plane and volunteered to hand crank. He did it and while I was tending to the airplane he walked away. I couldn't kill my engine yet, so I secured the airplane and then went looking for him. Could not find him to pay him for his kindness and time. I don't believe he ever expected to be paid. A true airplane brother. Thank you so much!

I successfully earned my private pilot, instrument, commercial, and CFI (flight instructor) ratings/certificates through them. They had me prepared enough each step of the way to pass each of my checkrides the first time. It's really common in the flight school world for people to start flight training but hit some kind of a wall that they can't get pass and they stop training. People here are watched over and supported quite a bit and as a result, they don't have this problem. Additionally, they have a very high pass rate. Lastly, they coordinate and work with DPEs (outside pilot examiner) to ensure people are able to get checkrides (think of it as a final exam before a certificate or rating is issued). People at other schools have told me they have to schedule their checkrides 3-6 months in advance. I have so many good things to say about Mike Smith Aviation. Please feel free to reach out to me and I can tell you more. I give Mike Smith Aviation 6/5 stars!

Being confined in a small space and so high up was not something I was used to. We flew over San Francisco. At first that was scary. But soon I got used to it and actually enjoyed flying.. My first son went up after me. He really enjoyed the ride. My younger son went after him. Now he gave the pilot a real scare. The pilot told me that my younger son was fearless and really took him for a ride he wouldn't soon forget. I thought for sure my son would want to follow after his uncle and be a fighter pilot when he got older. Luckily it never happened.
