I work in a highly professional environment where judgments are made about your character based in large part on your personal grooming. If you don't look clean and put together, you are not taken seriously. After living in Cincinnati for nearly two years, though, I had not found a hair salon that could meet this challenge. Then I went to Exclusively Male. To say I was impressed would be an understatement. From the moment you walk in, you are treated with professionalism by the friendly and efficient staff. The contrast with other lower-priced "quick cut" places is striking: 1. I was asked and given a drink (soda, water, etc.) 2. Instead of having a smelly cloth put over my clothes, I was given a robe to wear instead. 3. My beard trim was not the typical run roughshod over my face affair. My stylist took her time to make sure my beard was straight, cut well, and to my liking. 4. I was given a shoulder massage while getting my hair washed and then hot towels for my face. Very relaxing! 5. The haircut itself was outstanding. It was exactly what I asked for, and even exceeded my expectations. Marie is the name of the owner, and she was also the one who cut my hair. Before we started, I told her about my miserable experiences with other "quick cut" places in the area, and she assured me that I had come to the right place. After the amazing experience was over, I realized that she was right. One last note about the price: yes, it's not cheap. $30 for a haircut, $10 for a beard trim. But I will always pay a higher price for higher quality, so it's well worth it. The old adage "you get what you pay for" is never more true than in personal grooming. Bar none, Exclusively Male is the best place for a man to get a haircut and shave in Cincinnati. Don't waste your time anywhere else. read more

Creepy. This place is creepy. It makes you feel like some kind of sexual predator. All I wanted was a good haircut. That's it. That was the only thing I didn't get (just about.) You walk in and are asked to take off your shirt and put on a smock. Not a robe, a smock. It felt like arts and crafts, and was a bad sign to start. My "stylist" was in extremely revealing clothing, showing her augmentations. Odd. I don't recall the exact order, but I believe the first step was a hot towel facial. You sit there with a hot towel on your face opening your pores. Fantastic, though it's weird to be sitting in the corner of the place with no clue what's going on around you, but this isn't terrible. Then came the unexpected back massage. Awkward. Again, coming from a 40ish woman with lots of not-her-real-parts hanging out, this was just... weird. It was weird. It was supposed to be kind of sensual but missed the mark. Then came the haircut. Remember, this isn't a cheap haircut. The stylist reached for the clippers and said "#2, right?" I was done at this point. I can go to Supercuts and get a #2 clipper cut, one impossible to mess up, for a quarter of the price. I didn't want that. I wanted someone taking the scissors and actually giving me a $40 haircut. You do not get $40 haircuts at this place. You get the style equivalent of a lap dance. It's awkward, no one makes eye contact, no one really enjoys it, it only simulates something worthwhile and your girlfriend thinks you're an idiot afterwards. Just go to a real salon. You pay too much for nothing here. Plus the whole "men's" thing is overrated. A real salon is full of cute girls that are customers. The only girls here are paid to act like you're interesting. Not sure what some of the other reviews were about but here is the real deal -- This place is great! It is professional and NOT creepy. If you want a real haircut and not the 5 minute chop job at your local super saver hair butchery AND you want it at a really good price, then this is the place to go. The staff is friendly and the process is professional. So if you are a guy, want a good professional hair cut and are willing to pay more than $10, then this is a great place to get it done. Exclusively Male is the perfect place for a gentleman to have his hair cut. Smart, fun stylists specialize in men's hair and all have years of experience. Service is generally by appointment, though walk-ins can probably be worked in. Upon entry, you are offered a water or pop and the option of changing into a clean smock as to not get hair on your clothing. Hair cut comes with a hair wash, hot oil neck massage & hot towel facial treatment. Nails, massage & shoe shine services are also available. Some just come in for a shave. Hair cuts generally take the amount of time you would expect. The first time I went, I had shoulder length hair and had it all cut off. That took quite a bit of time, but my stylist took her time and did a spectacular job. These days, I just go in for a quick trim and 30 minutes is about the average. There is an onsite free garage for parking in the complex, as well. The employees are all friendly & talkative and seem to be trained & certified experts at their craft. One Saturday afternoon they were even offering complementary chair massages and it was easily one of the best of my life. For some reason, men often feel like they can only go to SuperCuts or some turn of the 20th century barbershop with a barber from the same era. I prefer a smart, modern facility with friendly folk that cater to the modern professional male. That's why Exclusively Male is for me. read more

I'll start by saying that in my somewhat vast haircut experience, only men can give a man a good hair cut. My normal barber was away on vacation and I needed a last minute haircut. After reading the reviews on here, it seemed to me that Exclusively Male would be a good place to try. (Run by women) Normally, I go to a traditional Euro Style barber, but I am not foreign to the likings of a full service men's salon. After walking in for my 8:30am appointment, I was greeted by no one for about 5 minutes, until a giggling woman came out from the back at 8:35 and got me started. I wanted to get my shoes shined, and they said that their Shoeshiner would be there soon. I took them off and left them on his chair. They had me change into a "smock". Literally, a smock. Not a robe; it was akin to something children might wear in 2nd grade art class. Finally, I was directed to my chair where a young and attractive female stylist wearing somewhat provocative clothing introduced herself as my stylist for the day. She seemed nice, but when paying $33 dollars for a haircut, I expected someone with more experience. The wash was the best part of the cut, even though she dug her fingernails painfully into my scalp. All this being said, I wasn't too upset with the entire experience, but I certainly wouldn't be returning. Upon returning to my normal barber, he was shocked by my hair, and asked here it was cut. After just 3 weeks, it was blatantly apparent that the woman who cut my hair really had no clue how to give a good men's cut. He was surprised by how poorly of a job she had done; especially with the layers. (I've had my hair cut elsewhere before, and he has never said anything.) 1-10: Shoeshine: 4 (overpriced @ $10) Stylist: 2 (young and inexperienced) Salon: 4 (slightly more upscale feel than a Great Clips) Cut: 1 (layered, not good, poor back) Overall: 2 Would not recommend. read more

Reviewing the shoe shine guy only. John is the MAN and he will do a great number on your shoes. He gets in early and stays until the early afternoon. Shines are $6.00 each and you can drop your shoes in the morning/pick up in the early afternoon. Price isn't the lowest in town, but also not the highest (thus the 4/5 stars). John is cash only and you will need to get change from the individual at the front of the salon. read more

I've been a customer here for 15 years, from my 20s into my 40s. I get primarily haircuts, but have purchased many other services, too. I literally won't go anywhere else. The owner, Marie, runs an incredibly professional, comfortable operation. The stylists are skilled and focused on what they should be...making sure the customer looks good! I am most appreciative of how Marie's team bends over backwards to accommodate my crazy travel schedule. I've also purchased several gift certificates for friends and family birthdays, holidays, etc...they are always a big hit. I've found no better place for a professional man. read more

No ambiance. TV was on a soap opera. This is a man's salon. Receptionist smells like smoke. No music playing. Services are overpriced for the service received. I had a pedicure done and they do not even have a proper pedicure chair. Better men's salon's in the area for the money. I will not return. read more

I was a client at EM for a long time, I got a massage once a week, and hair cut and wax every four to six weeks. I was always early never missed an appointment, and tipped really well. It was the best massage I ever had in my life, EVER!! and the best hair too. I would have been a client there until they closed. But don't get sick and have to go to the hospital for major surgery that puts you on your back for two weeks and have to cancel two scheduled appointments. They will treat you like a no-shower and question your honesty requiring a credit card deposit. As they say, 1 ole crap will cancel out a 1000 at a boys. If you want good quality this is the place to go, just don't get sick and miss appointments. I must say I was really hurt because I went the extra mile to be a good client. Where I come from your word is your bond, and when that is questioned it pretty much takes a lot out of you. I doubt they miss me though.
