DO NOT HIRE: Abandoned contract after we had paid him money.
2 biggest issues:
1) quality of work: says he is general contractor but is not. Does not supervise or train his workers. Most work done had to be redone and was not to code or quality.
2) dishonest with money (he essentially "stole" our money, bounced checks, etc.)
We hired Francisco August 2016 to finish our house remodel for $104K (taking it from fresh drywall to finish). We agreed to a payment plan by paying 25% up front. He promised he would have his team of 3-4 workers on our house every day until finished. Two weeks after Francisco started he demanded another 10%, then 2-3 more weeks another 10%, and by December 2016 we had paid 85% of the money to Francisco. I know this makes us sound like idiots but Francisco manipulated us saying he would stop work if we didn't pay. We stupidly paid him. Francisco also only had one guy working on our house most days, despite his promise.
By April 2017 Francisco has demanded $96K and now 15+ months since we started working with Francisco, he still owes us $36K to pay back for materials and for unfinished work ($21K for work/materials he promised to pay us back and $14K for unfinished work). He has not been to our house since July.
In addition to taking our money, Francisco does not have quality laborers. He does not manage them as a general contractor should, which left rework for nearly everything that was done. There would be months without Francisco coming to our house.
Examples of work that was done wrong and required re-work included: tiling, hardwood, paint (ruined the inside of our house cost us $18K to fix), staircase and railing, deck railing, installation of cabinets, installation of incorrect door to code (used interior French door for an exterior opening), staircase balusters had to be built 3x bc they weren't to code, nearly everything requires re-work, even down to the painters he sub-contracted to paint our house. Francisco did end up fixing some things, but most things were on us to fix.
I can't explain to you the amount of stress and heart ache Francisco has caused us.
The Last Straw: Francisco had agreed to paying a painter to fix the paintwork. Our brand new drywall, trim, and stained staircase was left ruined because of painters Francisco brought in. It took March - July for Francisco to paint our 2800 sq ft house and kept saying he would fix the paint work. Francisco brought in three different paint companies to "fix", but no one ended up finishing because Francisco never paid them. Francisco kept lying to us saying painters were busy and that they would come in a few weeks to paint. After two more months we did not trust Francisco to bring in another paint company. Francisco agreed that we could get bids, bring in our own painter, and that if he was okay with the estimate, he would pay for the painter. He agreed to this!
In September, Francisco owed $15K to the painter and he wasn't paying. We gave Francisco an out of our ENTIRE contract saying that if he would follow through on his word to pay the painter by October that we would leave cordially, no bad reviews and we would not go after the $36K that he owes us (we even agreed to pay for $6K of the paint re-work, b/c we knew Francisco wouldn't pay.) Francisco verbally accepted the offer, promised us he would pay.
He said he would follow through with weekly payments to the painter. Since September Francisco has only paid the painter 2 payments totaling $2,600 out of $10K that he agreed to pay. He also provided the painter a bounced check for $1,600.
I would not hire Francisco for anything. Even in his core business of cabinets/countertops, the granite counter tops were installed incorrectly and not with proper support for the weight of the granite.
Francisco is manipulative, dishonest, and every vendor or sub-contractor we have brought in to work with him he has ruined the relationship. Even Francisco's workers have stopped working for him bc of the money Francisco ow
We had talked to Janelle (the other bad review) before hiring Francisco and we should have listened to her. Francisco had some manipulative way of convincing us Janelle's issues would not happen, yet I'm afraid now we are even in a worse state. read more
