Located on Rt 28 in Shokan, NY, Door J. worked for several reasons: we knew we were getting solid wood doors, close to home and, we were satisfied with the customer service from the get-go when we first came here to inquire. Plus Door J., has an incredible stock on salvaged doors that come directly from suppliers. They claim their doors are "either overstock, inaccurate orders, or have slight cosmetic defects, but all the products are new and structurally sound". And if you can't find your door here, one will be ordered for you. That's what we did. I love our wide pass-through living room in our new home, but we wanted to have the option of closing it off if we want to- or keeping it open. Barn-styled doors was our go-to. Chris was super helpful the first time we came here and gave us a in-depth rundown about Door J. Do know, this place does not: (1)deliver and (2)install doors- because that's on you or your contractor- if you're using one- which we did. We were also in the market for slider windows for our basement and these folks helped with that. Because Door J. is an Andersen Window distributor, we were even more ecstatic that we could have our cake and eat too by ordering our barn doors AND 5 small slider windows because they seal tightly against air, water and anything else. You can go to Home D. or Lowe's. We're here because products are great and customer service rocks.

We went to a whole bunch of flooring places this past Tuesday and we had, by far, the best…read moreexperience here! My husband flips houses and is doing his first east coast one since moving from California. We made a day out of stopping in to a bunch of flooring places between the property (Woodstock) and our home (NYC) to check out the options for hardwood flooring. It turned out the flooring he used for the California properties was WAY more expensive here on the east coast, probably due to shipping, so we were suddenly scrambling to find an option that would fit the vision without going over budget. We were looking around the showroom at Kingston One and Sean came over and asked if we needed help. There is a HUGE selection of beautiful, beautiful flooring and we were finding lots of things that would be perfect but everything that resembled the flooring he'd used in CA was much more expensive than he'd budgeted for the current house. Sean listened to what we were looking for, pulled out a number of good options that were very similar to the ones we wanted but much closer to the price we were looking for. He found us one that was still about $1.50 (psf) more than we wanted to spend but that seemed to be as close as we were going to get right at that moment. He said to give him our number and he'd dig deeper and see what he could find. We said thanks and headed out to check some other places. We stopped in eight other places on our ride back to the city that day and weren't able to find any better deal. Most of them had the same one that we'd sort of resigned ourselves to (the one that was $1.50 more than we'd budgeted) but the one at Kingston one was still the least expensive for that one. Then, as we're driving, Sean calls and says he found something for exactly our price point that was VERY similar. I was skeptical but my husband went back the next day and it was perfect! It's some new product that just came out, Sean had hunted for what we were looking for and found it! I know this is a giant wall of text and maybe more detail than necessary but I just wanted to make it clear that our experience here was so far above and beyond what we'd experienced everywhere else.

I spent the fall searching for the right flooring and found it at Kingston Carpet One - an engineered hardwood from a company called Mercier. Adam helped me with information, support, the best price I found anywhere for this flooring and even delivery to the city all the way up to the apartment itself! They've also helped me with a cut-to-order area rug for the office area and proper padding to protect my beautiful new floor. My contractor has just completed installation of the floor and it is gorgeous! Tired of seeing the same types of perennial bulbs in every single big box garden center (and even Adams to some extent), I finally visited. Autumn isn't necessarily the best time to visit, as they close shop for the winter, but there were lots of discounts on shrubs and plants and in-stock items as well as beautiful mums all over the place. I particularly liked their focus on native plants and butterfly garden plants. The inside was nice too, with a little bit of everything. As far as bulbs, their selection was limited, but they did have at least one type of shade-loving perennial bulbs I had not found elsewhere. I was also looking for a shade loving houseplant, and they again had several types on sale. Upstairs they have a small bookstore and bird feeder supplies, including the type of squirrel-proof bird feeder I'd like to get if I ever want to replace my old one. SQUIRREL!
