He said that he would not charge me because ICBC would be changing its policy within the next couple of days; the policy change would be that vehicle owners would get free windshield repairs if they have comprehensive coverage. Even though that new policy was not yet in effect, Ron went ahead and fixed my windshield for free ;) I am super appreciative! The young man who fixed my windshield was also kind and amiable :) I will go back if I need another wind shield fix or replacement.

I came in for a simple windshield chip repair. The service was responsive--they returned my call…read moreover the weekend and even offered to open early to accommodate my schedule, which I appreciated. However, the experience quickly felt more like a transaction guided by insurance policy limits than by my actual needs. I was told three chips were on my windshield, though only one was real. The others turned out to be a sticker remnant and bird droppings. ICBC covers up to three repairs, so I couldn't help but wonder whether this framing was intentional. I was also told my deductible was unusually high and advised to lower it, despite already explaining my reasoning. It felt more like pressure than concern. At no point was I told whether the glass being installed was OEM or aftermarket, nor was I given a choice. I later discovered it was aftermarket--something I would have factored into the decision had I known. Aftermarket glass is an A-okay option (as per ICBC policies), but I prefer making informed decisions about my car. I also make my own choices about my deductible, and to be clear, this is out of line for them to comment on uninvited. During the repair, I asked a straightforward question about my car's rain-sensing wipers and was told "Absolutely, we test everything associated with the VIN." That answer now feels like a brush-off. When I followed up to request the ADAS calibration report, I was asked why I wanted it and was cut off while explaining. I was told the report wasn't required to be provided to me, and I only received a partial version. The change in tone from courteous to defensive was hard to miss. Additionally, the service report listed an odometer reading significantly lower than my actual mileage--by tens of thousands of kilometers. This might have been an error, but it raises questions about accuracy. This business is newly ICBC-certified, and it seems efficient on the surface. But if you're someone who asks detailed questions or expects clarity around safety systems and documentation, you may not receive the same level of responsiveness. If you're looking for storytelling, this place delivers. If you're looking for clarity, maybe look elsewhere. (Update: I confirmed that the rain-sensing wipers do work, and ICBC had the correct odometer reading on file. Still, neither point was proactively clarified by the shop.)

Had a hit and run that needed to be repaired. Sucks that you need to pay the deductible for…read moresomething that you didn't do, but that's another review. Picked AutoMind because of my friend's suggestion. My experience with body shops have not been good, so I was pretty surprised that the office was relatively clean and each rep had their own desk I could sit and chill as they process my paperwork. The guy hands me an iPad. "What. You want me to play games as I wait?" No. Instead, they had a cute little cartoon thing explaining what will be happening to my vehicle. Not only was I surprises that a body shop would even know what an iPad was (Most I've been to have been pretty low tech), it was a hoot that they went as far as creating cartoon videos to explain to customers what is going on. Got my car looked at and made an appointment to come back and drop it off for repair. When I dropped off my car, the AutoMind rep also showed me how I can use my iPhone to see the photos of my car and see what stage my car is at in their shop. Then they had someone from Enterprise pick me up to get my temporary car. Got a car I've wanted to try out for a few days. When I went back to pick up my car, more paperwork and another iPad cartoon telling me something about my warrantee. I checked over the work. Couldn't tell I got hit (Guess that means a good job). And they also vacuumed and cleaned the interior of my car (With 2 kids, it had gotten mighty dirty with pieces of stuck dried fruit in various locations). The work was pretty good, and those cartoons were pretty funny. What got me was the fact that they put in a lot of effort and tech stuff into the customer side, with the cartoons and the iPhone login thing to look at my car. All in all, it was a pretty smooth and funny experience. But it still sucks that you need to pay the deductible for something that you didn't do...

These guys are my heroes. I'm not even kidding, they totally saved me and then went above and…read morebeyond after that. Long story short, someone keyed my car and damaged my door lock a couple of years ago. I made the claim right away but then procrastinated on following through with the repairs (for which there is a 2-year time limit if you want it covered by your insurance). I figured I'd have all the time in the world to get it done but then suffered a health condition that took me out for the months leading up to my 2-year deadline. So there's me, trying to find an auto body shop that would take my car in for repair on less than a week's notice. I initially didn't realize how ridiculous of a request that was until I spoke to my insurance provider and then called a large number of other auto body shops. Turns out they all have a 6-week waiting list right now. I literally got laughed at when I called some auto body shops to ask if they could take me right away. But Boyd Autobody Richmond was sympathetic to my situation and agreed to take my car right away, despite how busy they are. I was already on cloud 9 and so incredibly grateful when I went in to pick up my car. But little did I know, they still had one surprise left for me. After paying my deductible and getting my keys, I walked out to my car to examine their work. It was perfect. I then jumped in my car, prepared to drive off, when I looked around and saw that my car was immaculately clean. I was shocked. To put this into perspective, my car has not been that clean in years. I have two huskies, both of which shed like you wouldn't believe and love to run through mud, as well as the sand at the beach after getting wet. And then they get in my car. I literally gave up on trying to keep my car clean years ago. And I'm pretty sure there was close to an inch of husky hair than had accumulated on the floor of my back seats, which I tended to ignore because I have a little 2-door BMW so it was hard to get to that area and I never really had to see it anyway. So let's just say, I was convinced my car would never be clean again unless I paid at least $500 for a professional to detail it. I in no way expected Boyd Autobody to clean the inside of my car like that...and BMW certainly doesn't do it whenever I've taken my car in for servicing (not that I can blame them, lol). But Boyd Autobody Richmond went above and beyond on that front. I don't even want to know how many hours it took the poor guy assigned that task to complete it. I was so impressed and grateful that I ran back inside and asked if I could give the guy who cleaned my car a tip. But they, with a smile, said no, it's all good, and they would pass along my thanks. I am never taking my car to another auto body shop again.
