The USC meme page has a wonderful collection of bugs found in the food here. This dining hall is the freshman classic, but I'm not sure why. It's oily, greasy, salty, and unhealthy, but when you have no other options and you're on a freshman dining plan.... there's always evk.

Not one of the better options at USC during the early 2010's, but did the job. Cafe 84 at KOH was superior (RIP).

Evil Kitchen. Irredeemable except for all-you-can-eat Sunday Brunch. But even that's overpriced (like everything else at SC).

This past visit I came with a large group and was still seated immediately. I didn't realize just how large it is inside, as I usually am towards the front or on the small front patio. ANYWAY The Korean wings were very good but admittedly could have been a bit spicier. The loaded fries had a bit too much melty cheese on top that oversaturated the other ingredients. The chicken quesadilla was I enjoyed but was a little basic. Last time I was here before this I had a chicken tikka quesadilla which I think was a more inventive dish that is certainly more memorable than this one. Small critiques but I do very much enjoy District and will one day come not just for happy hour. The cocktail of the day is usually good!

I ended up paying it(because they leave you no choice), but my biggest issue isn't the amount itself. It's that there was no clear notice beforehand. If a restaurant automatically adds gratuity or service charge, especially for a single diner, that should be clearly disclosed before you order or at least be prominently stated in the beginning. A 20% tip should reflect exceptional service. That wasn't the experience I had. The lack of transparency left a bad impression and felt dishonest. With so many great restaurants in Los Angeles that offer better food, better service, and straightforward billing, I wouldn't recommend this place.

I cannot recommend the tomato cocktail enough! I forget the name, but it was just wonderful and I thought it to be very unique. We were a party of 6, but 2 were lagging soooo hard for our reservation, and we weren't allowed to be seated until everyone showed up. I think the servers felt bad for us lol so they seated us after 25 minutes or so. By that time, I ordered their Espresso Martini which was delicious! They described it as "smoky and not too sweet." The restaurant itself has a very industrial warehouse kinda vibe to it, which was cool. Very laidback but upscale environment, dress up or dress down, it's totally up to you. My group ordered family style. We ordered... - Appetizers: 'spicy handroll' dip, goat empanadas, goat liver mousse - Veggies: roasted carrots, wood-fired sprouted cauliflower, sautéed green beans, grilled corn - Salad: shrimp & crispy greens salad, - Fish: pan roasted salmon, roasted oysters, - Meat: grilled kalbi-style short ribs, lamb curry - Dessert: matcha tres leches, mango sticky rice Honestly, if I were to do the same family style again, I would make sure I got a good taste of everything again. If I were to choose one of each category though, I'd go with spicy handroll dip as my favorite appetizer, sauteed green beans, I'll try the other salad option (the shrimp & crispy greens salad was really lemon-ey, almost too much), salmon was fantastic and cooked perfectly, the kalbi-style good was impressive and fall off the bone, andddd I can't really complain about either of the desserts. Everyone ended up splitting, it was maybe....$175 per person? Not too bad.

So stoked that I finally got to try this place. It no longer has to be stuck in my "want to go…read moreplaces" bookmarks! We were able to secure a 5:30pm reservation on a Saturday night with outdoor seating. Friends had dined here several times so started off the night with some good recommendations! For a party of four, they recommended about 5-7 dishes to share. I have unique allergies so both the staff and kitchen were extra careful and made sure to let us know if any of the dishes we ordered had any potential cross contamination. To be safe, we didn't order one of their popular dishes (green beans) as it has cashews. We thought about having those to the side but were afraid there could be potential contamination from the pot they make it in. We ordered about 6 dishes to share and ordered a matcha tres leches to share per each couple. We probably could have ordered another main but we left with satisfied bellies. Naan & Dips - $21 Must get! Naan is super flavorful and comes with two dipping sauces. It was a good portion size to share among 4 people Roasted Carrots - $19 Couldn't get the green beans due to my cashew allergy so we opted for the next recommendation given by our waiter! The carrots were so tender and flavorful. Tomato & Stone Fruit Salad - $24 I really enjoyed this one although our friend felt like the Chicago location made this more flavorful. The creamy tofu sauce with chili oil makes a great pairing! A great refreshing way to start off the meal before all the heavy flavors from the mains! Ginger Chili Yum Salmon - $38 Salmon was extremely tender and cooked well. It comes with two pieces of salmon, so it made it easy to share between the two couples. The sauce was okay for me. Sticky Glazed Pork Shank - $48 My absolute favorite from what we ordered. Meat fell off the bone and was seasoned so well! I liked the addition of lettuce and pickled veggies. You can eat as is or make it into a lettuce wrap! Highly recommend, maybe next time I won't share this one haha Pork Belly Noodles - $36 Pork belly was tender, but I don't remember much from it...also the portion size was lacking so maybe that's also a factor. 2 Matcha Tres Leches - $17/each YES to this! This was such a divine way to end our meal. The blackberry frozen jam and matcha whip was such a treat! Loved the addition of matcha white chocolate quinoa crisps!

His advice: "go in the morning, their cakes and pastries are killer; a long line forms even before they open, it will be worth it" it's hard to not go broke here, they have sometimes unnusual combinations of pastries that are always incredible! Their chocolate + salted caramel cake is my husband's favorite, its a bit much for me but I cannot deny its beauty and quality. I love all the passion fruit desserts, their danishes, anything with Caramel is also my husband's jam. Come hungry, eat something here, take some home. When dining in I've loved a slice of their quiche of the day, they give you a nice side salad with a zesty dressing, I also love ordering the baguette with salted slow-churned cultured butter (Rodolphe Le Meuiner Beurre de Baratte) and jam - simple but WOW! Fantastic place for those coming to LA for the first time, the building is just gorgeous, and for those who live in LA: you should come! I love a good french pastry, I don't come in often but when I do I am always satisfied

The Bottom Line 4.5 stars: Highly recommended culinary destination. A few reservations as noted…read morebelow. Location 4 stars: On the east side of South LaBrea Ave between Wilshire and 6th street. Paid valet parking next to the venue. There is also limited metered street parking and third party paid parking lots. Venue 5 stars: Beautiful, charming historical building originally designed in 1928 by architect Roy Seldon Price for Charlie Chaplin as a mixed office/store complex. More recently it housed LaBrea Bakery and the Campanile Restaurant before Republique opened in 2013. A few outdoor tables as well as many indoor community and private standard and high tables, and a full bar. There are also some seating upstairs, sometimes reserved for private groups. They in fact operate two distinct Republique restaurants here. Morning to 2 PM they serve breakfast and lunch and bakery items. It's a more casual order-at-the-counter-and-they-bring-it-to your table set-up. At night it's a formal sit-down restaurant. Republique has become a huge tourist spot and you see a lot of international visitors there. Billing 1 star: They charge a 4% surcharge up and above the prices on the menu. I find this confusing and misleading. Why not simply reflect this in your prices? Service 4 stars: Polite and to the point. Food 4 stars: New American fare with French influences. I have only been there for breakfast and lunch and cannot rate the fancier dinner items. My favorites are the Lobster Omelet, the Mushroom Toast and the Croque Madame. I found the Eggs Benedict and the Steak Frites a bit underwhelming. The Eggs Benedict lacked flavor and the steak was a little tough and chewy... I also felt that the Fingerling Potatoes and the French Fries were way too salty. Drinks 4 stars: Full bar, specialty cocktails and coffee/matcha. No mainstream soft drinks. I have had the Ube Coconut Matcha Latte (it was overwhelmingly sweet!), the Tiramisu (it's a drink! delicious), the Green Shake (smoothie, quite good) and the hot Cappuccino (ok). Serving sizes are on the smaller size.
