This is an amazing place. We booked this place on 4th July weekend. They are better than a resort. First, there are private three hiking trails you can enjoy the nature. One of them lead you to an amazing waterfall ( don't forget bring your watershoes), you can swim and get into waterfall. Second, there are upscale cabins. They pay attention to every detail. My favorite is local roast ground coffee in our room. Third, the chef cook from scratch. They provide o'dour before 4 courses dinner and buffet breakfast. Even they gave us Togo lunch boxes when you checkout! Forth, the awesome and kind stuff. From check in, waitresses to bar tender, they have a great service. Fifth, the great location, it's just hour and half from Nashville. We enjoyed the peaceful and warm atmosphere. Five points to five stars. Totally recommend. This is a review of the fixed price dinner at Evins mill. We were not staying at the inn but close by in our family's lake cabin. We wanted a night out and honestly the options are few in Smithville. Evins Mill has a dinner for $75 per person for 4 courses. Take my advice and save your money. Nothing about it was fine dining. The appetizer course consists of a few slices of cheese and crackers. Salad was straight out of a bag. Chicken Bousin looked and tasted like it came from Costco. Rib eye steak was very tough and chewy. With a bottle of wine and tip, the dinner was over $230! I really wanted to like it, but, just "no". read more

WOW! Their website does no justice for the experience you will have here. We had a 16 person retreat for work over 4 days and 3 nights. From the moment we showed up, till the moment we left, our expectations were exceeded. Every meal was homemade, the grounds were pristine, the rooms were grand and clean, tons of on site activities, and the best customer service. THE BEST couples get away. We needed a BREAK and this was the perfect spot. 1. Away. There is wifi, so don't panic and the service was good. BUT. You feel very disconnected. Staff is exceptional and we spent most of the time totally alone. We went to breakfast and by the time we got back, the room was serviced. 2. Food. I mean. Food. Everyone said it was good, but I didn't expect what we got. I'm blown away. Varied every meal; we never had the same thing twice. Breakfast is just delicious - make sure to have bacon. It absolutely melts in your mouth. Coffee, delish. Lunch is a HUGE sack lunch deal with all kinds of stuff in the bag. And dinner? I mean at dinner they are just showing off. 5 amazing courses, one better than the other until dessert hits and you are just gobsmacked that you just had this food in the middle of the woods in adult overnight camp. 3. Walk, or don't. The Creekside rooms have a great view of a running creek. We DID make it to the overlook, but it's a "hike" for sure. And they tell you that! If you are movement averse, Look at the photos. There are stairs everywhere. It's on a hill... you're gonna have stairs. The overlook hike had a few places that really took guts and being surefooted, but I was really glad we tried it. Worst case, you go back the way you came. Best case, you enjoy a few hours splashing in a creek and trying to climb. After the overlook loop, we did not try the southern loop to the base of the waterfall - I'm sure it's gorgeous and I want to go back in not-August to try that too, but it was just too humid and hot for us to be comfortable trying that loop. So we didn't. Choose your own adventure and don't let the hike scare you... they don't make you go. You can sit right on the porch all day if you want. No judgement here. 4. Creekside rooms. Love the view. King bed was so comfy and the bedding was so soft. Comfy chairs and a coffee bar and small fridge for waters or whatever you bring. Bathroom was clean and simple. We were in Webb 3 and it was at the very end away from the main house, but there is a nice walkway and the stairs are spread out enough that it was a simple walk, but it is a walk. Pack light. You don't need a lot here and you won't want to lug a bunch of junk in and out of these cabins. When we return I'll take half the clothes I took, more waters, and a small fan. I love a ceiling fan and our room was vaulted with no fan. The AC was powerful and plenty to keep it cool, but if you like the noise of fan, bring a small one. I wouldn't change anything else about these rooms. Clean, comfy, and perfect for a few nights out in the wild. 5. The ease. It's all included, but you will want to tip these folks when you leave. They deserve it. And we loved NOT having to make 100 decisions a day. Not the epic discussion of where to have dinner... what's for breakfast. Breakfast is a buffet. Lunch, they give you 4 choices and pack it in a little bag for you to pick up at lunchtime. Dinner, you pick the protein and the rest comes out. Boom. I have an onion allergy and they were AWESOME about making sure I wasn't served any. Epically relaxing, I'm every way. Evins Mill, you're a gem. Our 2nd time here. This time we stayed at the creek side cabins, Great venue for weddings and small company retreats, we used this place as a weekend getaway before school starts up in a couple weeks, The food is incredible, The kitchen staff was very accommodating to our gluten-free diets. We hiked down to Carmac Falls before breakfast and they prepared a sack lunch before we left the property to hike more trails finding waterfalls. My best friend got married here this past November, and it was like something out of a Hallmark movie! Everything about this place is quaint and so fun! They were so helpful during the wedding planning process and on the day of the wedding everything went so smoothly. This place has so many fun places for pictures and feels like a mini vacation away from Nashville. The food was amazing, and we all stayed the night on property and woke up and had a big breakfast. Came here for a wedding and had a FANTASTIC time. Its the perfect relaxing weekend getaway. The facilities were clean and offered tons of things to do to pass the time! Furthermore, the staff was incredible accommodating and THE FOOD WAS FANTASTIC, seriously some of the best beef tenderloin I've ever had. The hiking trails are relatively treacherous so keep that in mind, but it was a really lovely time to just get away and chill. read more

Beautiful setting. Mattresses need to be replaced in Solstice. They have added memory foam toppers but mattress underneath is very worn and saggy. You get that roll to center feeling when trying to sleep. Food is good and plentiful but not 5 stars, more like 4. Breakfast is better than dinner but it's late served 9 am until 10am. Dinner is served at 7 pm Picnic lunches they pack for you have are ok with sandwiches or wraps , fruit and cookies with water bottle. Cleanliness leaves something to be desired. We found a dental floss pick behind a bedside table when we arrived. While my husband was sitting in one of the chairs on the room, he found a push pin in the carpet. I wore slippers the rest of the trip. The fall leaves are beautiful here. Views from decks are lovely. Trails are very rough and steep so hiking on site is very difficult. There are a number of state parks within 30 minutes drive from Evins Mill with some excellent trails though. But hiking on this property is not good. The entire property is built on a steep slope. read more

We did a day trip in November. The hike to the falls was no very long but a little difficult to go down. The waterfall was beautiful but the smell of dying leaves was really bad that we couldn't enjoy the view for a longer time. The place was really empty I think we were the only ones in the entire property. Our lunch was very complete water, tangerine, pasta, sandwich, popcorn and cookies. Tuna sandwich was really good. We got married at Evins Mill on sept. 12 and we couldn't have asked for a better venue. We had decided to change our venue a month before our wedding and it would not have gone as perfectly if we went to any other place. William is highly organized and detail focused. After our first conversation with him he sent me a email with all of the little details we had discussed about the wedding. The food was absolutely incredible and they were very helpful in the ordering process. They have a day of coordinator who was on every detail and so sweet and patient with our flower kids. The lodge accommodations itself was super clean, nice and beautiful. The staff was incredibly helpful and wonderful. We are still getting compliments on our wedding day and may just have to renew our vows here every year. I visited and stayed at Evins Mill May 13th and 14th. I was apart of a bridal party of a wedding that was taking place at the venue. The venue is absolutely beautiful. I wish I had had more free time to explore the entire site. My cabin was right off the main building and I could hear the dam right out my door which made for a very pleasant evening and sleep. The room itself (I stayed in Lockhart 2) was incredibly cozy. I was surprised at how modern and up to date the bathroom was. There were also makeup remover wipes in the bathroom which were a life saver since I left mine at home. The staff was beyond amazing. They were so accommodating and just the nicest people. I would recommend Evins Mill to anyone who is looking for a wedding venue or anyone that is looking for a quite place to get away for the weekend. I loved every minute of my stay. read more

I came here for a wedding over the weekend and it was as picturesque as you could get. It was a sunny autumn day and the leaves had changed color, painting the background with yellows and reds. The small wedding was held outside an old house by the mill, where we put up some simple decorations and flowers. Then pictures were taken all over the grounds- by the water, by the mill, on the bridge, along the trees. We had dinner at Evins Mill, and the food was excellent. The local chef used to work on a cruise line, and it was comfort food done in a creative modern way. Tomato basil soup with wild rice, pastries with three types of mushrooms, grapefruit salad, steak and potatoes with a great sauce, and flourless chocolate cake. The service was wonderful- we asked many favors from the people who worked there, and they were incredibly flexible and helpful. The rooms are also well-stocked and comfortable. For amazing pictures and great food, this is a great place for a wedding. Just be careful walking around the grounds in heels, especially on those wooden bridges and muddy hills! read more

This place is absolutely beautiful! My friend is having her wedding here and all of the wedding party is staying at the cabins - which are AMAZING!! Everything is beautiful and so clean and the staff is so professional and helpful! Food and service is great! The rooms were more modern than I expected - very modern bathroom , large shower, coffee pot in the bathroom with really cute coffee in jars instead of packages, plenty of towels. Large comfy king size bed, extra blanket in room, very clean. Our room had a loft with an extra bed and a mini fridge - but not all rooms have that included. There is a tv, but no cable - you can borrow DVDs from the main lodge. Very nice balconies with rocking chairs and the option to open you balcony door to share the space with your neighbor (really nice if your staying with friends next door). Beware though - the door automatically locks every time you shut it so always keep a key with you. Beautiful scenery! There is a hiking trail that leads to a waterfall. I didn't make it to the waterfall but our friends did. Wear tennis shoes. It's about a 30 minute hike. Great weekend! read more

Wow. This place is a beautiful, peaceful retreat and just a short drive from Nashville. We stayed in one of the creek side cabins, gorgeous view of the trees and you could hear the creek sitting on our covered porch. The food was some of the best we've had anywhere, and we travel a lot and set the bar high. It's all farm to table, fresh and on point! My hubby had the duck for dinner and I had the beef tenderloin and both were melt in your mouth delicious. I usually do not like having a set dinner and breakfast time as they do here, but the food and service are so amazing, it's worth being on their schedule. The service from the staff makes you feel like you are with family instead of a restaurant. We were so impressed with Faythe and Terri at dinner and how they happily accommodated any request to make the experience perfect. You can sit on the patio as we did on fall evenings or on cooler evenings, inside by the giant fireplaces on each end. Breakfast was just as impressive as dinner. Fresh fruits, juices, Benton's bacon, farm fresh eggs and homemade biscuits to name a few. Dorothy was the chef who also makes rounds while you are dining to see if you need anything. Tina took great care of us this at breakfast and even packed us gourmet boxed lunches for our hike to the falls. Carmac Falls is breathtaking...we took the south trail to the overlook, which was an easy hike. You do have to be careful in some spots, but even our three year old had no trouble as long as he took his time. We did not hike to the base of the falls because we heard that a small child would not be able to make it and for even experienced hikers, it was a good hike. Hammocks are strung up for relaxing, there is a large game room, a stately library with books to take and even DVDs for the cabin. This place is pricey, but well worth every penny...it's a little slice of Tennessee heaven! read more

Just returned from a two night stay at The Inn at Evins Mill for a family wedding. Loved everything about the place we had perfect weather we had the whole Inn rented out the staff was over the top friendly and amazing. The breakfast buffet was so good as was the BBQ for the rehearsal dinner but the most awesome food was served at the wedding reception. We had a very early flight today and the Innkeeper packaged us up some of the wonderful banana/cranberry/nut cake for us to take with us since we would miss breakfast. The is a must stop if you are anywhere near the area. read more

My husband and I stayed just one night but it was a great relaxing getaway. Accommodations are nice and clean but definitely still a cabin feel. Food was good and a step above usual hotel fare but not as gourmet as I was expecting. Once we got to the amazing waterfall and swimming hole I knew exactly what we were really paying for! The South trail hike was moderate difficulty (my older in laws wouldn't be making the trip) but the waterfall was AMAZING! Beautiful, serene and only a couple of other people there (since it's on private property of the Inn). They have places to sit in swings, rocking chairs and hammocks all over and the staff welcomes you to come early and stay late enjoying the grounds before and after your actual cabin reservation. Our only problem here was the ridiculous amount of mosquitos - but that is more likely because of the time of year- and they did provide bug spray at the main lodge. So my tips would be: -bring strong bug spray if you visit in the summer -Bring water shoes to explore the waterfall. The rocks around the swimming hole are understandably slippery and bare feet made it even more challenging read more

I just got home from a weekend staying at Evins Mill Inn. Even though it was a usual January weekend, with cold and wet weather, the whole weekend was enchanting. I first learned of Evins Mill Inn when I attended a work luncheon that was scheduled there. Besides the food being great, the whole vibe was warm and welcoming. While most of my co-workers headed off after lunch, a few of us stayed behind to get a look at the property. The manager (?), William, dropped what he was doing and showed us around the grounds, and even opened up one of the vacant rooms so we could get a look inside. I knew it was a place I wanted to stay one weekend. So, this was that weekend. My boyfriend and I came in from Nashville, a trip under 1.5 hours, unless like we did, you stop at the Appalachian Craft Center to tour the great art gallery there. We checked in at 3p, and the head chef (Jason) just happened to be walking through the foyer. He picked up our bags and guided us to our rooms, answered any questions we had, and welcomed us to the Inn. We were in one of the creekside lodges, and the sound of rushing water from the mill spillway immediately started relaxing us. Our room was comfortable, with windows overlooking the creek below. There was no Wifi in our room, which was unsettling at first, but later we really welcomed the ability to totally unplug. We immediately grabbed seats in the rocking chairs on our deck and took in the sights and sounds. After a while, we wandered into the main guest house, where there is a lovely Stone Room with lots of overstuffed chairs, booths, and most importantly, a roaring fire the staff had started. The TVs in the cabins only play DVDs, so bring some of your faves, or choose from the library the Inn has. There was a TV in the Stone Room, and it being football season, the boyfriend turned the game on while we worked on putting together a puzzle. After a bit of time, we were invited to have some appetizers (great cheeses, crackers, fruit) before dinner, Dinner was a lovely 4-course meal, again, next to a roaring fire. We can bring your own wine (for a corking fee), but we settled on some Calfkiller Brewery beer, from a craft brewery in a nearby county. The dinner was incredible, every course, and we were stuffed on tenderloin and salmon by the time we headed to our room. We feel asleep to the sound of rushing water outside our room. The next day, there was a beautiful buffet set out at 9, complete with a made-to-order omelet station. The weather during our visit was too wet (and slippery) to take advantage of the two trails they have on the property, one of which leads to a waterfall on-site. We'll save that for a visit in the spring. But we were invited to explore the old mill site, which is used for meetings/ weddings, etc on one floor, and on another floor has a pool table, foosball, corn hole games, and more overstuffed leather furniture. We will also wait til the warmer weather to take advantage of the swings and hammocks that are scattered around the property. The staff was very present, but unobtrusive, and anything we needed was provided. Everyone was so very accommodating and warm. But the time we left the property, my boyfriend and I were checking our calendars to see when we could make another return visit. We went to Evins Mill for a family reunion a while ago and it was wonderful! Everyone enjoyed the trails as well as the rest of the grounds. It was nice to hang out in the roomy rec building and former milling building. Our cabins were great and the food was also fantastic, breakfast and dinner both. There isn't much to do in Smithville so it is more of a retreat. I would love to return someday. read more

My husband and I visited Evins Mill for Memorial Day weekend. We had planned on staying there for two nights. We had really been looking forward to getting away to relax and escape from our daily routines. Seeing as I use a wheelchair, we already knew going into it that we wouldn't be able to do any of the usual outdoorsy activities (hiking, swimming, etc.) but were looking forward to being able to enjoy the modern amenities in the Bower suite in the Solstice. But no sooner had we finished our dinner, a thunderstorm came through and knocked out the power to the entire resort. The power remained out the whole night, until roughly 5:30 in the morning, which meant we were not able to use any of the amenities we had come for that weekend (including air conditioning, as it got quite stuffy and hot in our room during the night). I was really surprised to find that a resort of that size hadn't invested in a backup generator for such an event, especially given their high room rates. During the blackout, an employee came around to check on us and we mentioned to her our surprise about there being no backup generator. She agreed and encouraged us to mention it to the manager because apparently he tends to take suggestions from the guests seriously. The next morning, as we were getting ready to start our day, the electricity started to flicker on and off several times. So my husband made his way down to the main lodge to ask what was going on. An employee told him that the county was still experiencing rolling blackouts and that we should probably expect another lengthy blackout that night because another storm was expected. At that point, we had had enough and with the prospect of having to go through the same ordeal again that night, we decided to just go home. We understand they can't control the weather but their lack of preparedness for it created a very uncomfortable experience for us. The staff apologized for our bad experience, cancelled our charges for the second night, and only charged us for the first night which was still more than I wanted to pay ($500+) given the circumstances. After we returned home, my husband called and left a message to let them know that he had accidentally left his pajamas in our room. Within a couple hours, the manager returned his call to let him know that they would be mailing the pajamas back to us the next day. He again apologized for our inconvenience during our stay. He offered us a voucher for one night in the future, but we told him that we do not intend to return. My husband also mentioned to the manager that he should really consider getting a backup generator for the resort but the manager only responded with how expensive it would be to do that. The next day, my husband got an email from the manager letting him know that the pajamas had been mailed and again apologized for the inconveniences we experienced. My husband wrote back and shared more details about what had gone wrong during our stay and the fact that we would have been better off staying at a cheaper location such as a hotel. He mentioned that we would prefer a refund on our expenses for the one night we were there as opposed to a voucher for a future stay. We received no further correspondence at that point. The two stars given are mainly based on the friendliness of the rest of the staff and the dinner that we enjoyed before the power outage. read more
