Cumberland Falls State Resort Park - So that's washed away after the floods...

    Cumberland Falls State Resort Park

Cumberland Park is one of my favorite state parks to visit. We have visited twice and loved it both…read moretimes. The first visit we stayed during covid in December so it was just our group of 4 and one other couple staying in the resort. It was nice because it felt so private. We stayed in the resort rooms and we were surprised with how nice they are. Everything was clean. It was a bit small but we made it work. The second visit we stayed in their cabins and preferred it more. we got 2 bedrooms and each one had 2 beds so all of us slept comfortably. I loved that the cabin comes with a full kitchen and table so we spent our night playing board games. The park itself has so much to do. There are tons of hiking trails, horseback riding and even boat tours that take you up close to the waterfall. You have to go to the Moon bow at least once in your lifetime. It's when the moon hits the water at the right angle and you see a rainbow at night. It is a cool experience but it does get really crowded so you may want to come early. Cumberland Falls gave me unrealistic expectations for state parks because this what I feel like most state parks should be like.

The trail was a bit slick, but really just strolled to hit the different overlooks for different angles of the surging waters. Snagged a sundae from the snack shop and some gifts from the shop. They have some animals and small exhibits in the Visitor's Center as well. Free to stop, loved seeing the falls! Apparently the only place to see a Moonbow near the full moon in the Western Hemisphere, so that's pretty special!

Vendors- we used preferred vendors & all were professional, easy to deal with, & provided a great service for a fair price. No complaints. Leeric Staff-Dealing w/the owner & wedding coordinator before/after the event was a horrible experience & stressful. We chose the "Stress Free/Weekender" package as we live 10 hours from the lodge. The owner was not transparent & didn't properly describe what was included. Ex. the package stated "heavy weighted dinnerware" but what we got was gold colored plastic utensils & plastic plates. I'd expect metal utensils & porcelain plates in the highest tier package. The plastic knives made it hard to cut steaks. If I wanted different dinnerware I could request it from the caterer for an cost extra. After the contract was signed and five months prior to the wedding the coordinator said there's an $80+ charge/night/person staying in the lodge. Then 3 days before the wedding the coordinator stated the wedding party only stays in the lodge Friday night & only the bride/groom stay @ the lodge Saturday night. The wedding party would need to book hotel rooms last minute. This wasn't what was discussed or stated in our package. Our documentation confirmed what we thought. We paid extra for the DJ to play the ceremony music & cocktail hour. The venue staff was supplied w/ a list of ceremony music details. There was miscommunication btw the venue staff & DJ as the DJ played THE WRONG SONG for the walk down the aisle. My daughter had no clue what song was playing or when to start walking. She was embarrassed when the music stopped 1/2 way down the aisle & finished her walk in silence. That's a big mistake! The day of coordinator showed up 90 minutes late on the day of the wedding. After we finished the rehearsal the coordinator told the wedding party she'd be there @ 11:30am the next day. Multiple people we were looking for her @ 11:30. The father of the bride & father of the groom were waiting for her since they had to decorate the arch & the coordinator had the arch drapery. She showed up at 1:00 & the father daughter first look was at 2:00. So he had to rush to complete the arch, get a shower, & get dressed Since they don't provide a cake knife for the couple to cut the cake (although the package included a cake) we provided our own silver cake knife. After the wedding we noticed we didn't get the knife back. We reached out to the owner& she stated they didn't have it. She blamed the caterer but the caterer didn't even use it. 5 weeks after the wedding they let us know that they found it @ the venue. To return it we could pay $75 for them to mail it to us or we could buy a box & mail it to the Leeric w/a prepaid shipping label & they'd mail it back. They said it was our responsibility to take the knife home w/ us. But if it took them 5 weeks to find it @ their own venue how could we have seen it @ the end of the night? The knife was clearly misplaced by the venue staff & the right thing would have been to mail it back to us. They showed their lack of customer service again by sticking to the 2 return options. Luckily the caterer picked it up & mail it to me @ no cost. Now that's customer service! Payment- would be nice if payment could be done via check to avoid the 6% credit card fee (12% fee for security deposit). I understand the st payment being done via credit card to secure the date but after that sending a check prior to the due date should be an option. We paid over $1600 in credit card fees. Contract- the contract should be package specific as it included things that weren't applicable to our package-causing confusion. I suggest: -review contract line by line what is/isn't included & ask a lot of questions -hand tip envelopes to vendors directly -have someone in your wedding party confirm w/the DJ the ceremony songs(hear what they will play) -Record GoogleMeet calls & keep all emails

Turkeys and deer greeted…read moreus outside our floor-to-ceiling windows, and before we left, we even spotted a bald eagle! We were welcomed with champagne and a gorgeous cheese board as part of the couples package--a lovely touch that set the tone for our stay. The cabin had floor-to-ceiling windows that offered fantastic views of the property, and the accommodations were thoughtfully appointed with refillable water bottles at each bedside (with refilling stations around the property), luxurious robes, huge bath sheets, extra pillows and blankets, and hooks everywhere for towels and wet jackets--practical details that didn't go unnoticed. The Windy Hill signature scent (a blend of oak, bergamot, and bourbon) can be found throughout the property and is absolutely divine. Also, the playlist at the Watchhouse and Wilder is a total vibe! Now, let's talk about the food. Chef Ben is an absolute treasure. We consider ourselves somewhat snobby about food, and he and his culinary staff knocked it out of the park for every single meal. The grits and gravy with pimento at breakfast were a standout, and the fresh fruit bowl was huge, fresh, and colorful. The smash burger at lunch is one of the best we've ever had. We sampled everything on the dinner menu, and not one item was underwhelming. Our favorites included the lightly fried gulf oysters in shallot and vinegar sauce, the redfish, the pan-fried trout (those root vegetables were like a rich pot pie filling--incredible!), the crispy venison, the butterscotch budino, and the oatmeal cookie sundae. As on-site guests, we never had to choose between meal options--they let us order whatever we wanted, which meant we enjoyed all the starters, all the small plates, plus two entrees and two desserts our first night! The staff even brought us complimentary champagne to celebrate our anniversary. It rained the entire weekend, but the staff went above and beyond to ensure our comfort. Golf carts were always available to shuttle us to meals and activities, umbrellas were abundant, and the fire in the Watchhouse provided a cozy reprieve from the dreary weather. I had an in-room massage with Erin that was amazing, and we spent a lovely Saturday morning sitting by the fire in the Watchhouse enjoying champagne. My husband did the Five-Stand with Zach and loved exploring the farm. There are five walking trails ranging from .3 miles to over 2 miles, all accessible right from your cabin door. It's a stunning piece of property, and they have staffed it really well. As a new establishment, Windy Hill is still fine-tuning some of the smaller details. There weren't any utensils in the room, which would have been nice for any in-room dining (stirring coffee, enjoying food to-go, spreading jam and soft cheeses from the charcuterie board, etc.). There also wasn't any creamer option in the room (though the mini fridge could easily accommodate this). After the rain, outdoor chairs weren't wiped down. Would the staff have fixed these things immediately with a phone call? Absolutely. But when you're creating a luxury experience, it's those proactive touches that make guests feel truly special (and will keep them coming back!). That said, there's plenty of grace for a new property finding its rhythm, and they absolutely nail all the big things: hospitality, comfortable accommodations, incredible food and beverage, and genuinely helpful staff. And we really appreciated the built-in service fee so we didn't have to think about a thing all weekend long. Overall, we had a wonderful weekend. While the nonstop rain kept us from enjoying as many activities as we'd hoped, the delightful staff made sure our stay was comfortable despite the weather. We will absolutely be back. As Knoxville residents, we are so excited to have this gem in our backyard and can't wait to watch Windy Hill continue to grow and refine their already impressive offerings!
