I stopped by Scratch Supply following a Squam Art Workshop retreat - they were one of the sponsors…read moreof the event. The store has an amazing variety of gorgeous rustic yarns (ranging from well-known Brooklyn Tweed and Woolstock to lovely small production Canadian yarns) as well as superwash favorites. Additionally, they stock books and magazines, knitting/crochet/embroidery supplies and project bags. Service was fantastic - friendly, helpful and fast. Scratch Supply is a great source for all your wooly crafting needs.

Horrible online buying experience…read more I ordered a couple of expensive skeins of yarn from their online shop because they said on their site that as long as items were ordered during open shop hours they would be shipped out that same day or the next day, via overnight . This would have meant that I would have gotten the item within three days. The order was immediately confirmed and stated that expected delivery was in two days. I checked the next day and the site said that the order was still being processed. I checked later that day and no change the order the next morning. I tried contacting them through their site contact form, email, and also a message on their facebook page and there was no reply. I couldn't call because buried within their website they state that they don't answer the phone during business hours. I guess that should have been my first red flag. After the expected delivery date passed, their site updated to now state WAS expected, but with no further info other than still processing. I contacted them again via email and their site telling them to cancel this order and I also contacted PayPal and had the charge reversed. A few days went by and I checked again and their order page stated that my order had been cancelled. I never received any communication at all from Scratch Supply. I don't know why they run their business so strangely, but I think anyone who can't be bothered to answer the phone in their busineSs during regular shop hours is a big issue. Then coupled with the fact that they just don't bother to answer emails of any kind is another issue. Maybe this is a hobby, or maybe they just don't want the additional online business but it is shameful that they take orders and then ghost customers. Thankfully due to the fact of the statement that they ship quickly I didn't waste much time thinking it would take them a week or so, and I was able to recoup my money quickly. I'm not sure why, but when I searched reviews before buying here, I saw nothing that would alert me to shipping and order delivery issues. It was odd, because when I searched again after having issues, I found others with the same exact problem of never getting the item and the shop ghosting them. If anyone looking to buy from them sees this, I'd suggest you think long and hard before purchasing, or at least be aware that you may have issues getting items.

No one in my family sews, knits or needlepoints, and I hadn't been taught elsewhere. Yet, I've always wanted to create something with my hands. Fortunately, Mary Margaret, the owner of Notion Fabric & Craft encouraged me to confront my fear of the sewing machine! It doesn't hurt that her store is NOT overwhelming like many craft stores I've been to. Though she is fully stocked with beautiful fabrics, yarns, patterns, crafting accessories and tools, stepping inside Notion feels like you have been invited into someone's home studio. I have taken two of Mary Margaret's classes. The first one was the first time I ever touched a sewing machine. I left with a beautiful tote bag that I am able to boast that I made. In the second class, she taught us how to make a shirt. Mary Margaret is a wonderful, patient teacher who supports you in all of your mini-milestones and successes, as well as your...uh...learning opportunities along the way. I particularly appreciated her talk about clothing sizes in stores and how all of our bodies are unique and fluctuate from time to time. We can't be defined by someone else's size or idea of a size! The classroom upstairs is a bright and inviting community space. Mary Margaret offers tea and coffee for added coziness. Notion Fabric and Craft is a much needed addition to Montpelier for expert crafters and novices alike. Do yourself a favor and take a class taught by Mary Margaret!
