You would ask a simple question and get looked blankly. The work area safety was a disaster. Pictures will be included. They showed up at 7:15-7:25 AM. Upon arrival they needed to get inside for what I haven't a clue. Fairfax county has a noise ordinance stating work can't start until 8AM. If your so unlucky you will deal with Carl. Carl is the most cocky character. He doesn't know code. He claims he does. He claims he inspected the area to bring it up to code but missed a massive code violation. Fairfax County missed it as well but I already knew they were useless. So if you want to hire a company and roll the dice that you pass final inspection this is your company. If you want your property taken and then a cocky response that he's in 200 homes a year this is your company. They took a tarp that wasn't theirs and probably a watch. The tarp was returned but according to Carl they don't take anything. I can't speak for the value. The job was done on time but with annoyances. The kicker is he allegedly wanted to charge trip fees. Messaged a few contractors here on Yelp for last minute projects we were looking to get done before…read morewe rented out our townhome, and Jose from Hernandez Contracting was the first to respond to my message. He was able to come by our place on the same day for an in-person quote and after deciding that we wanted to work with him, he was at our place ready to work the very next morning! He said he was able to come by to start work at 9am the next morning, but he was there not only on time but a bit earlier by around 8:30am! We had started off with 3 projects for him, which he quoted us for, but I ended up asking him if he could do more little projects, and he was able to take on anything we asked of him. He's awesome, he was even so respectful to take off his shoes when he worked inside our home. The projects he was able to complete for us was: 1) carpentry work in our garage (to secure some previous work done before we bought our townhouse, there were some unsecured wooden pillars barely holding up a wooden built-in storage shelf). Jose even told us how he would make it even more secure by adding more pillars where it would hold more weight on the shelf and be more secure; 2) filled up a hole in our wall, he was able to patch it up with drywall and matched the exact paint and by the time he was done and paint dried, you would never have known it was there! 3) he installed a new storm door for us, our previous storm door had a broken door handle, and Jose was able to install a brand new storm door that we had purchased, he even made sure that the storm door we bought was the correct measurement. 4) Jose installed new hardware on our kitchen cabinet doors, they were all aligned! He took the project off our hands. 5) upon request he was able to fix our closet door that wasn't aligned properly, so it didn't shut! When we bought the house it was like that, Jose fixed it! 6) he glued & aligned some wooden pieces coming off that were framing our attic crawl space. 7) he went above and beyond to find some new window screens that we couldn't locate locally, so he drove to another state to look for it the very same day! He wasn't able to locate it, so he ordered the correct sized window screens and installed them as soon as he could after it came in the mail! He was able to get most of the work done in just 2 days! Minus the window installation, which was done as soon as possible, once he special ordered it and after it arrived! His preferred payment method is through Zelle. Jose is an amazing handyman! He is punctual, very reliable, kept his word when he said he would come by and do our projects, and did great work in a timely manner. I would recommend him to family & friends, and we will definitely work with him again.

Since that email contained critical conditions for repair (see review above), the lack of a reply made it unclear that repairs would be made at all. However, since my review, they reached out directly, gave an explanation for the delay and told me that I had been in the queue for repairs. Unfortunately, since it had already been months since the project finished and I had not received a reply to my last email, I had already begun to handle the warranty issues myself. I appreciated their subsequent offer to reimburse me for my time and effort on warranty repairs and their statement of intention to address the additional claims (which they said that they had not addressed until now as they had hoped to handle them at the same time as the warranty issues). The star rating in this case is for their improved customer service, but the original review for the work on the project remains unchanged. [I also want to address the implication in the owner's response, which is that posting a negative review is only used for dispute resolution. I was not using it for that purpose, as should be evident from the fact that I had moved ahead with repairs, nor do I think that that's a good reason for a review. Sharing experiences is how people learn, and detailed reviews can be useful for homeowners in preparing for home repairs, whether or not they use the reviewed provider. The more information provided, the easier it is to assess a review's value and apply it to one's own situations if useful. ]

He could have just completed the job he was contracted for, but he explained that he found major water damage. He said he could not in good faith just install the door. Sharing this unfortunate information could have made me stop the project immediately and sharing this unfortunate information could have loss money for his company, but it's not solely about the money for Julio, it's more about integrity. His reputation of trying to always do what is right and do it well. So, he removed and replaced all of the rotted wood first. Julio told me not to worry, he would work with me, and he would make sure everything was completed accurately, efficiently and that I would be very pleased with the results. He was right.
