A tamale and some slaw with green sauce for $2! And these are the best tamales in the Bay Area!!!…read more I've been coming here for probably about 5 years now. It's a little stand at the corner of Fruitvale and International Blvd in Oakland. They are only open in the morning, from 6:30 am to 11 am. I first noticed this place when I was driving by and saw a long line of people. I had to stop and find out what was going on. Since then I've been hooked. My husband was NOT a tamales fan until I brought home one and made him eat it. Now he loves these tamales. They have pork tamales, chicken (red and green sauce) and some kind of sweet one the last I checked, but since I don't care for a sweet tamales I only stick to the pork and the chicken. The pork tamales are my favorite. Light, almost fluffy masa with melt-in-your-mouth pork with red sauce wrapped in corn husks. The vinegar based slaw and green sauce are self served. The slaw and the sauce both has jalapenos and has some kick. Try it out!

I love when taco spots include them; they're the perfect little addition to the tacos. The salsas were great too, especially the red salsa. It has that delicious roasted flavor that I really liked and added a nice kick to the tacos. Although... tacos are getting SO expensive these days! It's honestly crazy to think about how much tacos are going for now compared to what they used to cost. Still worth trying if you're craving some good street tacos! What I love about buying street tacos in the town - you get a little bag of pickled jalapeños/carrots (they also cut fresh carrot slices that get pickled too, it cuts the grease from the meat!) For parking, there's a small parking lot right next to the taco truck. I ended up parking in the grocery store parking lot directly across the street, which was pretty convenient too. While I was waiting, I did not expect to get rizzed up by an elderly man selling ice cream - typical day in the day.

I've also brought plenty of friends and family here to try them, and the verdict is always the same: wonderful! I've heard that pretty much everything else on the menu is equally excellent, but I'm completely addicted to the fish tacos, so I've never managed to order anything else. It's cozy, friendly, and incredibly efficient if you happen to be in a hurry. I honestly couldn't recommend it more highly, or more fondly.

I really enjoyed the creamy orange sauce. $5.75 a taco may seem a bit much, but at least the taco size and quality justifies the price. I also ordered the smaller size of ceviche for $15. It came with 2 large round tortilla chips (not sure what these are called) and a packet of saltine crackers. I feel like a bag of tortilla chips would have gone nicely with the ceviche because I ran out of the 2 large chips and crackers before I finished the ceviche. The ceviche itself was perfect. Their spinach pineapple agua fresca was refreshing and reminded me of those Odwalla green smoothies. You do taste the spinach but it's sweet and tastes good! I got here around 5:40 on a Friday and there was plenty of outdoor seating available, though it did start to fill up the longer I stayed. You can enter on either side of the back of Aloha.
