The structure, vibe and colors is inviting and friendly. My neighbors daughter attended and I also worked here. What I didn't like was the over crowding. The prices are very fair and the curriculum, while fun, often is disorganized and forces learning down their throats when children should enjoy themselves and learning will come naturally. It isn't the worst, and it isn't the best, but due to the worst turnover I've been a part of, this aspect may irk parents. Excellent infant care but the preschool area needed work when I left. My daughter went to this day care for a year and I am so thankful that we chose this one. She received so much love from all of her teachers and staff, and often expressed love for her teachers and classmates - looking forward to go to school. If you're looking for a school that has amazing staff - you will have peace and trust that your child is in great hands. My daughter went from 3-4 yrs and greatly grew in her writing, speaking, concentration and social skills. I don't think we could have done it through home-schooling. My toddler has been at ESDS for 2 years and my infant since birth now for 1 year. The staff at ESDS is exceptional. The Director and Assistant Directors cultivate an environment of learning and fun. My kids are extremely well cared for. As a registered nurse, I notice the small things. From their focus on maintaining a clean environment, dedication to developing the whole person with language, music, and movement, to the curriculum focused on literacy -- I am so pleased. My daughter started at ESDS at 3 months old. As a first time mother I was nervous about leaving my newborn with strangers. My daughter has been going there for about 6 months now and I must say I feel very comfortable leaving her in their care everyday. Evelyn Street Day School has been amazing! The teachers in the Hens class are great; they seem loving and I feel like they truly care about my child. My goddaughter started going here about a year ago. In the beginning, everything was fine. They were diligent and attentive to her, always sending home notes about her daily activities, so her mother was aware. As the months went on, they became sloppy, and their turnover was unbelievable. They didn't provide the care they promised, sometimes we would pick her up, and she would look like a hot mess, stains on her clothes (mind you, her mother gave the school extra clothes to change her if she messed up her clothes), snot coming out of her nose it was unbelievable and very disheartening allowing my goddaughter to come out like that. The director isn't accommodating at all. She doesn't know how to run a daycare or has no clue. With all that money her mother paid for her child to be there, this is unacceptable!! The director doesn't know how to take accountability for her school, and to top it off, she doesn't have a clue who is on her staff and what teacher was in charge of my goddaughter. So this was our 5th day care in a year, yes I am one of those moms. Frankly I was giving up on finding a day care that would be good enough for us and then I stumbled upon Evelyn street day care. Boy am I glad I found this place ! Classrooms are not too big and not too small. Food is mostly organic, no pesticides no hormones and so on and so on. Non toxic flooring, lighting, paint and furniture. I love the owner Lucy and basically anyone she hires. I saw another review saying that she goes through staff a lot, but frankly I'm glad she doesn't keep any bad apples. Kids are learning sign language and a little bit of Spanish. Lots of great activities for kids, few different playgrounds, indoor and out, music and dancing. My son loves this place and learning so much more than he ever did at place like Jumping Jax, were he was stuck with a teacher "who loved him so much" and thought him nothing. Teacher who barely spoke any English... Ms Lucy maybe you should start a private school as well, this way we can stay with you all the way till college ? Something to think about... My older daughter started here earlier this year and I just put my younger one in recently. Since my older daughter was 6 months old, I have been through two other day care /preschools that were disappointing in several ways. Then we checked out 3 others before we found Evelyn Street. Evelyn Street was a pleasant surprise from the beginning when we toured with Lucy. I felt her dedication and warmth right away and practically fell in love with the brightness and cleanliness of the eco friendly facilities. The teachers and staff are nurturing and education is evenly emphasized on play, social awareness/ettiquette and scholastic learning. What tops it all is that they are fed natural and organic nutritious lunches. Their outdoor play areas are also cleaner and nicer than others I've seen. This is, hands down, the best day care around! My son has been going to this daycare since he was 12 weeks old (he's 18 months now) and I can't say enough about how great it has been! We have to switch daycares closer to where I work and I've been looking for a new daycare for him and NOTHING compares to this. Mrs. Lucy, the director, is amazing, sweet and communicative of any and all changes, all the teachers my son has had have been amazing and genuinely care about him and the facility itself is immaculate! This daycare is clean, big, organic and has a big playground and gym for the kiddies to stay active. Organic breakfast and lunches are included with tuition and they have amazing hours. My husband and I could not be happier that our son attends Evelyn Street Day School. From the moment we met Lucy, the owner and director, we knew this was the school for us. The hours are great and the tuition, which includes an organic lunch menu, all natural snacks, and extra curricular classes, is very reasonable. As a former educator and principal, Lucy supports literacy development for children of all ages. As a parent, she is in tune with the children's needs. Not only is Lucy very hands on, but she has also hired a qualified and nurturing staff. I love this Daycare, its been an answer to my prayers. My son been a going here since he was 3.5 months old which is for over a year now. My son loves it, he doesn't want to leave at the end of the day, he loves music class and lunch time:). His teachers are so kind, attentive and they all know who he is and they seem to care for him. They ask about him when he misses a day. Its a new daycare, so its new, clean and of course there is always room for improvement but nothing major. Its a Green daycare with many fun lessons and activities. Also, for the amenities and the care it is very reasonable and I feel very comfortable compare to some of the other day cares I checked out in the area. I love the director Ms Lucy, she is so kind and considerate, she knows what every child needs. I trust her. Ms Sherry and Ms Giselle are so awesome with the little kids.. my son loves them. The daycare is so accommodating on many occasions I will arrive late after 6:30 pm to pick up my son, not once was I ever charged extra or told about it. Our family loves ESDS. The staff is wonderful (from owner Lucy to all of the teachers and aides) and the school is clean. The meals served (for a small surcharge) are nutritious and organic, which makes for less fretting about school day breakfasts and lunches. I can not say enough about this school!! We visited 5 nursery schools in the area when deciding where to send my grandson and the decision wasn't even close! We chose ESDS not only because it was were my grandson seemed the most comfortable, it was were we were the most comfortable. From the moment you meet Lucy the owner you feel like you will be leaving your child with another grandparent. The staff is friendly, happy and engaging. While we were on our tour we saw several children run up to staff to hug them and trust me we didn't see that anywhere else. My grandson is very shy, only verbal at home and wears a hearing aid. We have not had one issue with any of this. The staff has embraced it all and makes us feel confident. They never make you feel like you're asking too many questions or you're "being a pain", in fact they welcome communication. Their goal is for your child to want to come to school everyday! The school itself is clean, bright, sunny and cheerful! The food is healthy/organic! They do interesting things with the kids, like plant gardens, greenhouses, etc. I could literally go on and on about the ESDS! We enrolled are daughter a few days after they first opened. My daughter enjoyed going everyday they had a great staff but within a year we kept seeing changes in staff and curriculum. In one year my daughter had 5 teachers.The people in charge have unrealistic ideas on how to run a day care. There is no nurturing of the child just rotation of workers then they blame you as a parent for their behavior. That went as far as to say my daughter my have issues and I am not the only one. This school is relatively new and when it opened it was great. Unfortunately, that is no longer the case. There has been a turnover of staff and there is no consistency of teachers. we felt they are not up to par. The classes are chaotic, we observed kids jumping on cots. The teachers are rude and don't even say hello. To me, there no longer seems to be a strategy to run the school. We took our child to another school and she is doing great and looks forward to going to school. Toward the end, my child kept saying she was scared when I dropped her off. My youngest has been attending here for a year. He's my first to go to daycare, and I am a pediatric Occupational Therapist, so I was very careful in choosing where he went. I cannot say enough about how wonderful the facility is, the program is, the food is, and most importantly how beyond wonderful the staff is. My daughter starts when she's 3&1/2 yrs old with limited English. She was refusing to go to other school before but she loves Evelyn Street Day School at the first sight. She's very happy to go and so expected to be there. Instead of crying she did very well and smiled at her first day. When she's home she told me she wants to go to school tomorrow. It's only around four months since she starts and now her English ability improves a lot! Teachers are very nice in the school and so helpful! My son has been attending the school for almost a year now and we are very happy with his growth and development. We enrolled him a few months before he turned 2 years old. The owner is very hands on and has an impressive background in terms of education and child care. Yes, as other reviews have noted, there has been some changes with teachers but I'm sure that happens at most institutions. The bottom line is that it has not affected the kids. My son loved his old teacher and loves his new one even more. They legitimately care about him and I walk away with no worries when I drop him off each the morning. The place is brand new and kept very clean. We don't need to bring any food at all. They serve organic catered meals to the kids, and there is no extra charge for that. There are lots of activities (indoor/outdoor gyms, music, dancing, singing, arts and crafts, etc.). We toured many centers in the Paramus area and it was a no brainier for us after visiting this place. read more

Yes there were growing pains as some of the reviewers have said below. But for a while now it appears those pains are gone and the school is amazing. All new businesses need to find their footing, and daycares have an even longer time before they find their long term faculty/staff. My older child has gone here since they opened and now my younger child has been through the infant and 1's room. My two children are so well behaved, social, and far ahead of what I would expect of their age in terms of the love of learning, ability to read, write, and even know sign language and some spanish! On top of all that, they are given healthy lunches and snacks every day which is included in the price. I know it will be hard leaving and going into a public school setting where parents aren't provided as much detail and involvement with their teacher/classes. read more

My 1st child started attending Evelyn Street when she was about 8 months young and that was because i pulled her out of another awful place. Walking into Evelyn Street was like a breath of fresh air and after speaking to Lucy i knew i wanted my child attending this school and after visiting other centers in a matter of a day i knew i couldn't go wrong choosing Evelyn street. 2 years later i have not regretted my decision once, they have been right beside me in all of my child's growing stages the good and the bad they were there to guide me as a first time parent and to teach and care for my daughter over 40 hours a week. This is no small task, they are her 2nd family. Now my 2nd child attends as well. Some might look at the change in staff at times as a bad thing but knowing how dedicated, experienced and knowledgeable Lucy and her leadership staff are assures me that it's for the good of my children. As much as i personally might like a certain teacher, if they are not doing the right thing then i am in favor of the tough decisions being made. I highly recommend this school. read more

My daughter has been attending Evelyn Street Day School for about five months. Before deciding to send our daughter to ESDS, my husband and I toured approximately 15 school/centers. We had a vision of what we wanted, and school after school was not meeting our expectations. Upon entering the facility, like other parents we took notice of the beautiful clean facility, and although that is a plus it was the core staff that was extremely impressive. Lucy and Doreen are wonderful at what they do. They are attentive, caring, and professional. I can appreciate the concerns of other parents, unfortunately teachers have come and gone in our daughter's short period there. However, there is consistency as the core staff is very present in the day to day. I know that it can be difficult for the child and parent to get use to new staff, but I honestly think that is a problem that exists in this field. Side note: Teachers please ask parents for supplies, I for one would be happy to help. read more

My daughter has been going to this school since she was 3 months old! As you can imagine leaving her at such a young age was extremely difficult, but Lucy and the staff made this an extremely easy and worry free experience. As a first time mom I have many demands as well as questions, and no question is ever too small or demand ever too big. My daughter absolutely loves it here usually not wanting to leave at the end of the day. Her teachers shower her with love and demonstrate how special she is to them! As with any school there have been times things may not have gone as I would have liked, but with just one conversation the issue is never repeated again. My daughter has definitely shown much growth in knowledge, and this is a true reflection of the education and activities done throughout the day. Breakfast, lunch, and snacks are provided with no additional cost, and they are all healthy and yummy. I highly recommend you take some time to visit the school, and see what it has to offer.
