the food is beyond good. i dont think ive ever had a huarache as good as this one. every last bite was packed with flavor. the ingredients were so fresh. even the salsas are noteworthy. while they werent spicy, they had so much flavor you literally want to drink them. well, at least i did. this place has a whole lot of character. its an extremely small space, in an area that isnt necessarily considered the heart of salinas. but if you are interested in an experience, not just a meal. its the perfect place for that. phenomenal food, and even better people. read more

Food was good but I called in my order so I could hit pick up since there's practically no seating inside. So I called in my order a little before 2:00 and they said it would be 30 min. I know they take forever as is so I did t leave my house till 2:45 and got there before 3:00. When I went in they could t seem to find my order by name they asked for the number I called from and still nothing, they asked what the order was and I'm assuming they could t find it but no one communicated that to me. So I had to wait 34 minutes for them to remake my order!!! WTH! If they would have been honest about their mistake I probably would have canceled my order because now I'm late for an event. This place gets more and more disappointing with each visit. read more

The wife and I came in just after 6am before I had to be at work because they say they open at 6am. As we pull up we see the staff opening up. We go in and wait over 20 minutes to even get our drinks ordered. If this is the way it is they should change the opening to 630 for customers. Food was good but all the prices had been scratched out so we had no idea how much our bill would come out to. For 2 orders of chilaquiles and two drinks it came out to over $36. I don't know if we price gouged for going in so early but this seemed overly expensive. We usually frequent culturas for this meal and it'd be about $20 there. The food is great... BUT I believe quality services should be as well, this place has to get a better system to place orders, especially now with COVID. First of all when you call to place an order they notify you that they will call you when your order is ready, without giving you and estimated time.. It would be nice to know roughly the time that my order is going to be ready in order to plan accordingly. For example, my husband and I placed an order, we live roughly 20 mins away from the place so, we arrived roughly 45 mins after we placed our order. We called and the employee notified us that it would be ready in 20 mins. We waited for 30 minutes more (an hour and 15min total) and we decided to go inside. The employee mentioned that there was still 5 orders in front of ours. We were really upset! We decided to cancel our order. I highly encourage this business to build a more effective way to place orders, it would be appreciated!!! From my part I will not be placing orders here any more. read more

We were looking for somehwere to eat last night (around 9pm) on our way through Salinas. As one of the few places still open, we chose Eva's, which was a superb choice. The food was excellent in every respect and displayed (frankly) a very surprising attention to detail for a small restaurant like this. This was true even down to the salsas (both verde y roja), which had great consistency (not watery at all) and flavoring. We ordered many dishes - the plato ranchero, carne asada fajitas, chicken enchiladas, a quesadilla, and a couple others that I don't remember. I didn't try every dish personally, as I focused primarily on the plato ranchero, but everyone in our group loved everything. The plato ranchero was cooked extremely well - just below charring (a threshold that too many restaurants gladly exceed for no reason) - and it was seasoned subtly but smartly. The cactus in the dish was actually some of the best I've had. As everyone notes in other reviews, the place is small, but I couldn't care less about that. The servers were very nice, and the food took probably 20 minutes after we ordered, despite the fact that they were still filling a lot of call-in/take-out orders at that time. As with most places that I rate 5-stars, Eva's didn't just exceed my expectations (my basic starting point for a 4-star rating) - it made a very lasting impression and left me wanting a lot more despite not being very hungry at all. read more

We were on our way back from a traumatizing board exam in SoCal that made us hate ourselves. We were haggard, hungover, and sleep-deprived. After hours of self-loathing, we were guided here by Yelp, as it was the only place open past 9:30 pm that wasn't a chain. The gentleman working behind the blue tiled counter was very welcoming, portions were huge, and everyone in the small restaurant were smiling. The handmade tortillas were fluffy and warm as they lovingly embraced my flavorful spicy Filete de Pescado Veracruzano, refried beans, pillowy rice, fresh avocado, and fries. I had extremely high hopes for this place, but it was not worth it. I walked in and found out that they didn't speak English, so I busted out my rusty college Spanish to order 2 fish tacos and 2 shrimp ceviche. I waited about 45 min to an hr for my food and during that time, they filled about 7 to go orders and other customer's food. In hindsight, ceviche was probably not the best choice since the shrimp fajitas and other dishes looked better. When I finally got my "ceviche" it was actually some boiled shrimp with avocado, lettuce and Thousand island dressing on a tostada. Thousand island dressing?! Where did they even get that? The fish tacos were fine. Overall, if you speak Spanish and don't mind waiting, you'll be fine. And don't order the ceviche. read more

Cons; shady neighborhood, small hole in the wall with limited seating serving types of food that are best eaten in, not take out. First of all this is a small place, so consider taking your order to go. It has seating to accommodate at most 10 customers. The food is the main attraction. I had their Huarache (sandle) plate was great, it's definitely worth coming back for. The huarache had a soft and thick corn base, like a thick tortilla. A thin layer of beans, sour cream, cheese, carne asada, grilled nopal (cactus) and avocado. The combination of all those ingredients tasted great, it's definitely a Mexican plate. This place is awesome!!! I got into town late and checked yelp for a good restaurant that was open after 9pm for some food to go. The restaurant was packed with people when I got there. It's a small one room space with counter seating throughout. The place looked very clean and was decorated cute. It looks like it's family ran. The guy that helped me at the counter was friendly and seemed on point anticipating things that people needed before they asked. I peaked at other people's plates and everything I saw looked delicious. I saw in a couple other reviews that you need to be able to speak Spanish to order your food but I don't speak Spanish and the guy that helped me spoke perfect English. The guy at the counter brought me a menu and described the huarache - which is like a Mexican pizza with all kinds of different toppings. you can choose between chicken, steak, or chorizo (or a combination of all three toppings). They also put grilled cactus on there! What???!! Awesome! and there was a grilled green onions, beans, cheese, and fresh avocado. It was also served with two different salsas. Everything was absolutely fresh and delicious. The cost was crazy!!.... my bill was under $10.00. This place could easily charge double what they do for the high quality food that they put out. The meat was tender, juicy & well seasoned. They didn't skimp out on the portions either. It was almost too much for my boyfriend & I to finish, but you can't waste delicious food like that. Unfortunately they ran out of chips when we got there, but it was the best thing to happen for our lunch!!! Instead they gave us fresh home-made tortillas. At this point we forgot about the fries and made a mouth watering makeshift burritos. I am definitely going back again! Everything was great, especially the horchata too! read more

I'm scratching my head. This restaurant received a five star rating from others. After sloughing through the streets in Salinas we finally found it only to find a kitchen counter with about 12 seats. I'm not even sure there was a restroom with running water located in this restaurant. While I honestly cannot comment on the food because we didn't stay, I can question the five stars. Why the heck didn't anyone else mention that you have to go almost four wheel driving to find this place. And then don't expect an actual restaurant with sitdown chairs.
