Drs. John W. Wolf and Evan S. Cohen run their own practice in Chelsea. I've been a patient of theirs for about 10 years and highly recommend their dental office for your care. Beside the doctors, there is a staff of dental assistants, technicians and of course, receptionists to take care of all your needs. There is also a periodontist who attends one day of the week in case you have needs involving your gums. Everyone is so friendly and pleasant, and just about everyone has worked there for years. That little turn-over always makes me feel better about any established practice. For the most part, I've had cleanings and polishings regularly, but there has been a wisdom tooth pulled and a small cavity drilled, all with the utmost care. I love everyone at Dr. Cohen's office! I tend to need a lot of dental work and the team here is always kind and up to the task. Dr. Cohen never upsold me and is honest about when something needs to be done and when it could wait. After years of being Dr. Cohen's patient, I've moved away and as I try to find a new dentist I lean on the reviews of others. So I want to leave my review for those in NYC. I'm sure Dr. Cohen is a great doctor and I do not doubt his abilities. However, when I went to see him, I was told that my insurance would only cover a portion of the check up. Usually, I'm not one to pay for a checkup as it is normally covered in full by my insurance. So I decided to leave and find a different doctor. The receptionist was incredibly rude to me when I made the decision to cancel my appointment, ripping up my papers in front of me, and not even making eye contact. Correct me if I'm wrong, but normally doctor offices call before the actual appointment to notify you that you will be paying a percentage of the checkup fee to make sure you still want to come in. I understand that it was late in the afternoon and she probably had a long day, but that's no way to act when it is both of our time being wasted. read more

As a new patient , I called the offices of Dr. Cohen for an appointment . The phone was answered by a young man who said that he couldn't get his computer working and that he would put me on hold while he repositioned himself . After he came back on , he curiously said that Dr . Cohen himself was going to speak to me . This is curious because I never before had the dentist process my intake on the telephone . Dr. Cohen must have been right there next to the clerk , as he just got on the phone without any telephone transfer taking place . Dr. Cohen didn't ask me about any dental issues or what malady I might be suffering from . He first asked me how I was referred to the office . As soon as I told him that I got his listing from the NYC teacher's coverage list of providers , he brushed me off and said that he won't be able to help me. I was astounded that the medical provider of a dental office had nothing better to do than get on the horn to telephone-screen patients himself ! I was also astounded that a dentist would get on the telephone upon a patient's first call to engage in cherry-picking candidate patients in such a tacky and indelicate manner . This dentist seem to place more value on personally injecting himself on the intake telephone call process than on the heart of the matter. The intake clerk could have told me himself that they would rather not deal with union dental insurance enrollees (even though the name and practice appear on the UFT list of providers) . I've been seeing Dr. Cohen for about 7 years now (since his office was in Chelsea) after a stint of not seeing a dentist for about 16! Dr. Cohen is the best! Never judgmental or dishonest. I don't have many teeth issues, and he never upsells me on anything. BTW the hygienists and office staff are also incredible! I honestly hope I'll never have to see another dentist. read more

I'm one of those people that can't stand the dentist. Even a simple cleaning is case for extreme anxiety. Everything changed about 3 years ago when I met Dr. Cohen. When I arrived for my very first appointment he made a point of meeting me in the reception area for a chat. I assumed this was because I was a first time patient. However on subsequent visits he has taken the same time and attention to meet and ask how I'm doing. His immaculate office is staffed with a warm, friendly, (and funny) team that will keep you laughing. And his dental hygienist gives a very thorough cleaning with a thoughtful touch. I recently had gum surgery at Dr. Cohen's office...and I can't sing the praises of his practice loudly enough! I had been watching my gums slowly recede, but had been too scared to approach a periodontist because of the horrible experience I had with wisdom tooth extraction. When I could see the roots of my molar, I knew it was time to do something, and went to Dr. Cohen on the recommendation of my husband. Dr. Cohen, Clementine, and Fabiola took excellent care of me on my first dental appointment. As others have commented, the office atmosphere is very welcoming and relaxed. It's clear that the staff love what they do. After consulting with Dr. Cohen and Dr. Chau, we determined that a gum graft was necessary. The doctors were very reassuring, and took the time to answer every question I had about the impending surgery. The procedure itself was pain-free, and I experienced minimal discomfort in the days following the surgery. Throughout the surgery, Dr. Chau and Paulo were very attentive to my comfort level. It's just under one week, and my gums are healing nicely. If you need ANY kind of oral surgery, Dr. Chau is your periodontist. In addition to doing amazing work, he has a great bedside manner. He made himself available by phone after the surgery, checking in on me in the evening and the next day--a Saturday. Knowing how nervous I was going into the procedure, Clementine, the Office Manager, also called over the weekend just to check in on me. I've NEVER experienced this level of patient care with any medical practitioner. I actually look forward to going to the dentist now, and how many people can say that? read more

I had a veneer come off and called for an emergency appointment. Not only did the receptionist call the Doctor to have him come in to the office a bit early, but they also got the Dental Hygienist to come in as well. They were so kind and walked me through all the steps they were going to take. It was actually a great experience that started as a negative. I think the veneer looks better now that he adjusted it! Dentists in Manhattan can be pricey. That being said, it is important to find a skilled, reputable and trustworthy dentist that is worth every penny. Dr. Cohen is a compassionate dentist with excellent skills and a kinship to Broadway. I needed to get a tooth implant, which can be a long process, and Dr. Cohen was there through every step of the way, offering much help and understanding. His periodontist, Dr. Michael Chau, was especially crucial to it all. He laid the foundation for a successful implant and remained accessible through out the stages of recovery. I can't say enough positive things about Dr. Cohen and his staff. I very much recommend them if you are looking for a dentistry you can trust. read more

I was looking for a gay friendly dentist and am so happy that I found this office! I felt so comfortable from the moment I set foot inside and the staff were utterly delightful. Clementine is the friendliest receptionist/manager I've ever met. Dr Cohen is experienced, extremely personable and sensitive and he made me feel so well taken care of. Like most people, I hate going to the dentist. Going to Dr. Cohen has made my fears go away. I feel like I am visiting an old friend's house who just happens to be a really good dentist. The staff is really amazing. Clementine will greet you with a bouncy smile and keep you laughing until you leave. If Dr. Cohen isn't with a patient chances are he will be in the waiting area to greet you as well. Fabiola, the hygienist, will get in all the nooks and crannies without marking you feel like a piece of meat afterwards. Stephen, Dr. Cohen's long time assistant, is sure to make you feel at ease immediately while keeping a smile on your face. Dr. Cohen and Stephen will work together to get to the bottom of all your dental needs and their years of experience together shows in their professionalism, expertise, and camaraderie. I have been a patient of Dr. Cohen's for almost 3 years, and highly recommend him and his team, especially his assistant Stephen. Dr. Cohen is able to combine professionalism and courteous demeanor in a way not often found in dentistry. I'm a bit of a dentist-phobe, and the friendly attitude put even me at ease. His gregariousness in my view is good medicine, like asking if I combine hot and cold beverages, if I grind my teeth, and so on. He asked if I ever had a bad reaction to novocaine in the past -- the answer is YES in my case, and it seems like an obvious question, but my previous two dentists never bothered to ask. Dr. Cohen did ask, and that's a good example of his approach to patient care. But I also think he genuinely cares about patients as people. Dr. Cohen and his staff are caring people who are also fun to be around, which is especially valued when you have to go to the Dentist! If you are a theatre buff, or an actor, this office will make you feel very comfortable. The office is decorated with theatre posters and Dr. Cohen himself enjoys theatre, is involved with Broadway Cares and cares deeply about all his patients. I found this to be true when I started to have a terrible toothache while in Ithaca, NY several weekends ago. The pain started Saturday morning and by evening my entire jaw and mouth were sore and painful. After calling local emergency DDS numbers in Ithaca and having no luck at all (they wouldn't see me since I wasn't a patient), I took it upon myself to call Dr. Cohen in the middle of the night. Fortunately for me he called me back immediately, prescribed an antibiotic and pain killer for me to pick up in Ithaca and had me come see him first thing when I got back to town. Because I needed a root canal, he immediately made arrangements for me to go straight to an Endodontist near his office. Once I was back in the city in Dr. Cohen's care, the entire process went smoothly and I am now pain free. read more

I have never had a bad dental experience with him, and he does his utmost to do things as pain-free as possible.
