It's so easy to default to "jeans and a tee shirt" in LA, but I just knew I could present myself better. I finally decided it was time to work with a stylist, and I'm SO glad I found Jillian! She helped me identify the colors and silhouettes that complement my body type and coloring, and gently explained which pieces weren't doing me favors and why. We uncovered so many great items already in my closet that I didn't have the confidence to wear or didn't know how to style cohesively, and she transformed them into some truly killer outfits. We also set aside pieces that needed tailoring, and she provided a thoughtful list of items to purchase to round out my wardrobe (I was definitely due for a refresh). I was able to painlessly let go of a ton of outdated pieces, and I honestly can't believe everything fits in my closet now! Within a week, I was already getting compliments from my fashion coworkers, which feels like the highest praise. I feel like a more professional, confident, elevated yet authentic version of myself. Jillian is incredibly sweet, fun, and intuitive; the FIVE HOURS we spent together absolutely flew by. I'm already looking forward to a refresh with her when the seasons change!

I didn't feel fancy enough, or like I had the kind of life that justified it. But I had hit a point where I knew my style didn't reflect the confident person I was becoming, and I wasn't dressing in a way that felt like me anymore. From the very first phone call with Jillian, I felt completely at ease. She just got it. She met me where I was, reassured me that feeling unsure was totally normal, and made it clear this was something she genuinely enjoys and is amazing at. I went into the closet edit expecting a total overhaul, maybe even having to get rid of half my clothes. But instead, Jillian helped me see new possibilities in what I already had. She showed me how to put things together in a way that actually felt like me and made sense for my everyday life. It wasn't about trends or starting from scratch. It was about helping me feel more like myself when I get dressed. Because that experience was so positive, I decided to work with her again for two really special events: my engagement party and courthouse wedding. Once again, she completely blew me away. She brought a thoughtful and beautiful selection of pieces in a range of sizes, and laid everything out in a way that made trying things on actually fun. I felt like royalty. I kept looking at myself in the mirror saying, "Who is she?" and "I don't know her, but I like her!" Jillian helped me feel more confident and connected to how I want to show up in the world. Everything she found was actually affordable and practical for my lifestyle. I'm so grateful I found her and I absolutely plan to work with her again.

Carol is great! She was recommended to me by French Hand Laundry. I brought my antique wedding…read moredress to her after another tailor almost ruined it. From the minute I walked into Carol's home/sewing studio, I knew that she was going to be able to save my dress. Why? Because I quickly learned that she had the three qualities essential for a good tailor: experience (an M.A. in Costume Design and 30+ years of alterations), creativity, and the ability to listen. Believe me, that last quality is extremely important in a tailor. I learned the hard way. Carol warmly listened to my wishes, concerns, and even amateur alteration ideas, before thoughtfully and gently examining the dress, and brainstorming ways to fix it. She is very creative. I like to sew and tailor my own clothes so I appreciate that she listened to my ideas, even if they weren't necessarily good, or economical. Lastly, Carol has experience working with antique garments, which in my case was extremely beneficial. Not everyone understands or appreciates Edwardian era clothing. Carol respected the history of the dress, while also making a couple of alterations to make it more contemporary. One of the alterations she did was to take in the sleeves. At the time, I kept asking her to take them in more, but in retrospect she was absolutely right in stopping where she did. If she'd taken them in like I originally asked I probably wouldn't have been able to lift my arms! Not to mention that she was working with a 100 year old dress, which, while not fragile, could have ripped when I was dancing. The other tailor wouldn't even take in the sleeves, and then Carol went and took them in! She also gave me a lot of pep talks. And good advice on the proper undergarments to wear under the dress. And tips on what to do if I broke out in a sweat (hello pit stains!). Lastly, her sewing studio is very clean. She even laid a sheet on the carpet for me to walk on, just in case I picked up fluff from a black garment she had been working on. And she hand ironed my dress!!! It was so smooth that even though I had to transport my dress from Los Angeles to Cape Cod, where I got married, it stayed wrinkle free and I didn't even bother to try to get it ironed before my wedding day. As my friend said at the wedding, the dress "fit me like a glove." Thank you, Carol!

I purchased a dress and in the moment of being so excited to find a polka dot dress, I guess I didn't notice how the bottom of the zipper made me look like I had a duck tail (see before photo.) Before shipping the dress to her, I sent a couple photos so she could see the exact problem. She was confident she would make the zipper fit properly. She worked her magic and I no longer have a duck tail (see after photo.) I was thrilled because I wanted to wear the dress to an upcoming event. The whole process was also so, so easy. Carolyn brought a whole bunch of clothes, I had fun trying things on, and then she came back one last time with different sizes and some tailored clothes. I really appreciated that she understands fit -- when it came to something fitting well, that was a non-negotiable, and I learned a lot from Carolyn. The lookbook is a great resource and I've been using it when I need ideas. But honestly a lot of the pieces go so well with each other that I haven't had any problem putting something together. I have always loved fashion and clothes, so much so that I had a mountain of clothing. But I was starting to get overwhelmed with it all. I was in a very busy phase of life and I wanted to look good: modern and put-together but didn't have the perspective about what to let go of and what to update my wardrobe with. From the moment Katie arrived, she was warm, non-judgmental, and helpful. She literally dug into my wardrobe and helped me take a hard look at all of my items. She gently guided me to let go of what was no longer a good choice (out of style, not my color, not a good fit, etc.) and helped me put together new looks with what I already had. She also suggested new items to round out my wardrobe. This was incredibly helpful, because I wanted to spend my money on a few quality items and not get swept away by trendy pieces. She helped me pick out some classic slacks, flattering jeans, and a versatile skirt. Katie listens and adapts her approach to what you need.
