I brought it back twice and both times I was told everything was fine. During the rebuild, they replaced (and charged additionally me for) replacing the transmission mounts, but a few days after I picked up my car, my motor mounts broke and the engine shifted while I was at a red light. I brought it back immediately and, after a test drive, I was told everything was fine. A separate shop found the entire engine was tilted, and I paid out of pocket several hundred dollars for their diagnosis and installation of replacement motor mounts - mounts I was told should have been replaced along with the others. I brought it back several months later because my car was hard shifting whenever I went downhill and the alternator continued making a high pitched noise. After a test drive on the flat roads around Santa Ana with Ed, was told that it shifted like butter. He advised me to warm up the car before driving, which has not helped at all. I was also promised that my alternator would be exchanged for the price of parts from O'Reilly and that it would be about a $150. I was ultimately charged me $429 for the third party alternator (definitely not a Denso) that makes high pitched whirring sounds when I press the gas pedal. Other minor issues: scratched my window tint and took 6 weeks to complete the work, fixing the alternator last and costing me 3 extra days of rental fees my insurance wouldn't cover. I ended up paying $1345 out of pocket to their shop and insurance covered $4000. Also, I incurred an additional several hundred dollars to the other shop to fix the motor mounts and for the extra days of rental. Ed is really nice and communication was not an issue. Overall, though, I did not have a great experience and I'm reminded of that daily when I drive my car over the hill to get to work, as the car will inevitably jolt as it shifts gears going downhill. It doesn't leave me a good feeling that the transmission repair will last. For this reason, I can't recommend this shop for transmission or general repair work.

I also like reading the one-star reviews because, let's be honest, you really can't please everyone. I just wanted to find an honest and trustworthy shop. I called and spoke with Ron right before closing time. He took the time to listen to everything I was experiencing, explained what he thought the issue could be, and told me to bring the van in the next morning. Their shop opens at 8:00 AM, but when I arrived around 7:45 AM, they were already there working on vehicles. When I walked in, Ron remembered our conversation from the previous day, which immediately made me feel comfortable. He scanned my van but didn't notice anything unusual. He reset my ECM and another setting, and thankfully that solved the problem. What impressed me the most was that Ron didn't charge me a dime for his time or help, even though I genuinely wanted to give him something for helping me out. I drove all the way from Disneyland back home to Northern California without a single issue afterward. I'm not mechanically skilled, so it was good to see how they checked for puncturing. And by extension, showing that work is being done. The only thing I had to order were my tires (I use special S&Ms)... and they only needed one day. I have referred others that have Toyota and Kia, and they have no complaints. The prices are more than fair.. sometimes I feel like maybe I'm robbing them!! My neighbor that I referred was quoted engine work at other places for well over $1000... she got it done with BC for less than $700 and it was done in a few hours versus all day. They told me they filled it with coolant and the AC still didn't work. They charged me $150 for coolant that fixed nothing. Then they 'ran some tests' which took 3 days and cost another $400. They concluded my whole AC system needed to be replaced for $1.5k and 'found' another $6k worth of problems with my car on top of that. I took my car in to another shop, they said my coolant was empty, charged me $50 for coolant and my AC has been working perfectly for the last 4 months. They also said that my car was fine and nothing needed to be replaced or fixed, basically confirming these A1 A$$holes made up the 'repairs needed'. I paid $333 for two hours of labor for a diagnosis and a relearn procedure that I was told would resolve the issue. At no point was I contacted to authorize any additional work beyond the diagnosis. I was later informed that the vehicle was fixed and paid the invoice, hoping the issue had been resolved. Unfortunately, the problem remained. When I returned, I received conflicting explanations. First, I was told there were no detectable issues. Later, I was told the transmission needed to be replaced. I was also repeatedly told that the repair I suspected would not fix the problem. Even so, I asked them to provide a quote for that repair since a transmission replacement was not financially practical. I was told they would call me with a quote and credit one hour of labor, but I never received a call. After nearly a month of poor communication and an unrepaired vehicle, I decided to purchase the part and perform the repair myself. More than 100 miles later, the vehicle is operating normally. The repair that I was repeatedly told would not solve the issue ended up resolving it completely. I am extremely disappointed with my experience and am out $332 with no resolution provided by the shop.

At Harbor Auto Service, Mike and John get the job done at an affordable price and take customer service to the next level. For example, when you have already paid and are all set, they park the car right outside for you and send you on your way. They are respectful and take the time to explain what is wrong with the car and give you plenty of options. They also have a nice waiting room with a tv, couches, and offer water as you wait.
