This little salon is a gem. After just a color and a bangs trim, I went home to a family that couldn't figure out why I looked so great all of the sudden. Not, they assured me, that I don't always look great, but... WOW. (Yeah, family. Nice recovery.) Euphoria is about as stress-free as you can get, they make real coffee (french press, none of that tacky keurig for them) and you get to hang out in a cute & cozy magazine-filled alcove while your color does its little magic, instead of having to duck your sci-fi nightmare head so your friends walking by on the street can't see you through the windows. I have been a patron of Euphoria for almost a year now and I love everything about it. My hair has never looked better thanks to the lovely and friendly stylist Holly. She has a gift for understanding a client's desires and knows how to interpret a desired image into a great hairstyle for your hair type. The decor and environment is really cute. I love that they support local artists, too, by putting up new work every couple of months. I agree with the other reviewers on one point. The cashier/ receptionist is cold. I have learned to ignore her because I don't think that her unfriendly attitude outweighs the cut I receive or the fun I have there with my stylist. read more

I was a regular customer - on a Saturday morning I showed up 10 minutes late for an appointment because I couldn't find parking. Before my foot was even in the door, Kirsten announces to me that next time I'm late, she's going to reschedule me and charge me for the appointment. Mind you, there was NO ONE waiting and no one else was in the place at the time. The only reason I didn't turn around and walk out was b/c I really liked my stylist. She ended up leaving shortly afterwards and I never went back. When I'm paying freaking $180 for a cut and color, I don't need to be treated like garbage by the receptionist. read more

I really wanted to love this place based on the signage, the vintage tchotchkes and the general retro look of the salon, but the receptionist's chilly and bitchy manner totally put me off. I came for a brazilian. As a Yale student, it's a little bit out of my way (you kind of have to go through the sketch part of town--not the sketchiest part--but definitely not comfortable for solo travel like I did today). They use a supernice wax (they say it's not wax, it's "soy") that apparently is an anti-irritant. The pain level was about the same as a normal wax, and I wished my waxer asked me to hold my skin taut to reduce the pain level. My waxer at home is better in that she'll try to reduce the discomfort as much as possible, either through conversation or other directions. Our conversation was stilted and I felt obligated many times to ask questions and keep the chat going. Whatever, I'm not paying for stimulating discussion. But what am I paying for? The results are very clean, I had way less leftover hair that needed to be tweezed than usual.But the "soothing" cream they give you after is NOT GOOD. It's "cooling" but I feel like there's mint or something in there because it tingles/hurts afterward, and irritated me for the next two hours. I would rather put on regular lotion and deal with the burn--at least I know that it's just from the hair follicles being ripped out rather than some unknown chemical injuring my skin. Also, it's incredibly expensive. I paid $75 ($65 + tip) when its only $45 ($40 + tip) back in the Bay Area. However, it's just so hard to find a quality waxing service in New Haven that I feel I have little choice. read more

I was really surprised to see the negative reviews of this salon, since I had such a positive experience there, and will be definitely going back. I went there for the first time the other day, and had my hair cut by the owner, Enola. She did a wonderful job, was considerate about what I wanted, and couldn't have been nicer. So that's my two cents, I like it far better than the other New Haven salons I've visited and have found a stylist that I'll be returning to. read more

I went to this salon to get lowlights on my (then) overly blonde hair, they did lowlights and they came out black. I was told to go home and wash it several times and that if it didn't lighten up after a week they'd redo it for free. I tried and it didn't lighten so I went back a week (to the day) later and was told that since it had been a week they'd have to charge me full price to correct it. The receptionist was very embarrassed and it was the owner who pulled this baloney, not her. I'd never recommend this salon. read more

After being stood up by another salon for an eyebrow wax (yes, really), I walked to my car - dejected - and right by Euphoria. I thought, "Hey, what the heck," and as my eyebrows were reaching the point where I was scaring small children, I went in. I didn't think there was any chance they could take a walk-in, but I was pleasantly surprised. Enola was friendly and sorted my bushy eye hats right out. The products she used were nice and didn't bother my sensitive skin. My only reservation is that the eyebrow waxing takes place in over the hair washing sinks, which is a little funky, but definitely something I can get over. read more

I'll agree with the other reviewers--the receptionists could use some serious training. BUT I love Holly, who cuts my hair. I have long, straight, fine hair, and am extremely picky (to the point of flying out of state to get my hair cut after repeated terrible haircuts in-state). My hair always looks great right after she cuts it and for WEEKS after she cuts it. She's also happy to let me experiment with different styles when I request them (you'd be suprised how many stylists I've gone to aren't), and very friendly. The salon is edgy too, but in a fun way. Apart from the receiptionist, my only complaint is the stylist next to Holly, who doesn't sweep up the hair she cuts, so by the end of the day there's a large pile at her feet that she periodically kicks aside while cutting. Fortunately the rest of the salon (apart from the floor at her feet) is very clean. read more

I so wanted to love this place as well! I had seen a haircut and color about a year before that I adored and I was finally able to go in for a cut. But a simple haircut took probably an hour for the cut only. I've never had a haircut take that long. My stylist was very nice, but boring. Maybe they could play some music, or bring an I-pod because you'll be there a while. My haircut was decent, but I didn't think it was well shaped or blended. I do love the color jobs they do there, but the woman next to me was getting her hair died red and her stylist sent her home with red dye still on her face and neck. I just think that the way they present themselves people expect suberb service, and what you get is average. read more

I regularly travel from DC to New Haven just to get my hair cut by Enola. That's how much I prize her skills with the scissors. I've read that others think her personality is a bit abrupt. To me, she's professional, courteous, and honest. I don't need my stylist to fawn over me or be my best friend -- I need her to carefully consider my hair type (fine), its length and texture, my face shape, and my grooming habits (do I like to use product? Do I blow dry or air dry?) to give me not only a cut that looks good but that moves well, that I can maintain myself and that grows out well. Enola does all this better than any stylist I've gone to in Seattle, LA or DC over the past 20 years. That's why I make five trips a year to New Haven. She's worth it. read more

Enola's Hair Salon, 'Euphoria' is horrible!! - I have been growing out my hair for approximately (6) years since 2010; my hair was very long and curly, mid back length. I entrusted Enola with my hair and that I would have to say was a.HUGE MISTAKE; I was beyond foolish to have trusted her with my hair! Due to my hair being very fine I always tended to tie my hair up in what some would call, 'a man bun'; since my hair never really fell into place and/or in the way I wanted when I did straighten and center part my hair, I finally decided to cut my hair even though I had my reservations! Since I was going to cut my hair I said, "what the hell; I want something edgy." I decided on a edgy, disconnected undercut....Super trendy, structured, piecey and perfect for fine hair. I printed (5) pictures in total and even brought my laptop to show a video of the EXACT haircut I wanted; assuming that everything I brought would help, especially with my consultation! How wrong I was...ENOLA instead chopped ALLLLL my damn hair off and disregarded what I wanted from the very beginning, lying and stating that she could achieve what I wanted. Enola cuts hair how she wants to cut hair (she cuts EVERYONE'S hair the exact same way) same so-called techniques, etc. She even has the audacity to get upset/annoyed when you voice your opinion(s), concern(s) and outlook on YOUR hair and the haircut that's being conducted!? My hair was left uneven throughout, she never bothered to style my hair, she instead left me with a mesh of hair that you can't do anything with; if I didn't say, "Can I use the restroom?" to escape the mangling she would have continued to cut!!! ....Now I'm back to square 1. having to grow my hair out again SMH; Enola even had the balls to say, "Let me fix it." Commonsense would tell the exact person that you're incredibly upset and displeased with whom already messed your hair up that why in the hell would you let them cut and/or touch you or your hair any further?! Let me tell you there was absolutely nothing to fix, ALL my hair was chopped off and pilled up on her salon's floor. 6 years worth of hair all cut off it less than 5 minutes; I will NEVER go to her salon and/or even regard to talk to her again. Save your $60 and find someone worthy of your hair whom can actually achieve your endeavor. Go to a salon in NY, you may pay alittle more, but you'll definitely get what you want!!!! read more

She's been coloring my hair for two years now, beginning when she was at another salon, and she is a real expert at making good color choices, doing color correction, suggesting additional treatments that enhance the color of my hair, and applying color professionally and so it lasts as long as possible. ***** ZERO STARS!***** it's too bad ... it's such a cute place! my cut was pretty good, but the attitude is awful. i don't need or expect any excessive pampering. but i'm talking about a decent tone. it's really odd. somebody needs to school this crew (especially the receptionist) on how to work with the public. they make the cashiers at shaw's look like stand-up comedians. and if you've ever done business with that jolly crowd you know what i'm talking about. no wonder i never see anybody in there. it's a shame. i read the last review, and i feel the same way - i wanted to like it, too. by the way.: THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I'VE EVER FELT THE NEED TO WRITE A REVIEW. good luck. according to the other yelp listings there are a lot of other great places to get your hair done. read more
