I called Eugene Computers yesterday, because both my DVD/CD Rom drives suddenly stopped functioning a couple weeks ago, causing me a lot of stress. Specifically I was trying to burn a few CD's for my American mom, and the burns failed, so now I have a bunch of coasters! Mom thinks the software had some kind of encryption parameter switched on, or perhaps the music I have is copyright-protected with a DRM, but I told her that it's actually a hardware failure! When I called, Mike answered the phone, and he seems like quite a sweet guy! I explained my situation to him, and he informed me of the possibility that I may need new DVD/CD Rom drives. He says that when it comes to reading and writing CD's and DVD's, drives and burners can fail after a short amount of time, as these machines aren't built to last like they used to be! Fast forward to this afternoon. I went to Eugene Computers with my provider, Karry, and they actually had the right kind of DVD/CD Rom drives for me! And better yet, they let me recycle the old ones that I brought in! I brought the new ones home, and by the way they're brand new and sealed, for which I paid $37.00 a piece (not a bad price at all!), and when I opened them up and plugged them into my machines, they actually work wonders! I recommend Eugene Computers to anyone who needs new replacement parts and even computer repairs. You guys are the best! This is a local shop just around the corner from me and I could not have been more satisfied with the service I received. My IBM ThinkPad T42 was VERY slow and due to some software I had loaded onto the hard drive and a bum wireless card, the computer was not performing well. My first visit there the owner listened to my concern and the problems I was having with the laptop and with my approval, began cleaning up the hard drive and getting rid of manufacturer-installed extraneous programs and files that were taking up space and were unnecessary. He spent about 15 minutes working on my computer before he handed it to me in much better condition. I asked him what I owed him and he said it was just basic maintenance and that there would be no charge. He said he did a temporary fix but I could bring it back and leave it overnight so he could open up the laptop to check the parts and get rid of a lot of the spyware and that annoying McAfee which was majorly slowing down my computer. The second time I went back, I left my laptop for 24 hours and all that he had recommended was a new wireless card as he had spent a few hours doing more maintenance. Considering how old my laptop is, it works like a gem now! I really appreciated the service and the fact that the simple fixes really cost me nothing. They are honest folks with very reasonable prices, especially for the service and neighborly kindness I received. I highly recommend them! read more

We purchased a new computer just over a year ago with matched hard drives in a simple mirrored RAID. At just about the year mark, one of the drives started failing. We took the computer back to the shop and they replaced both drives and cleaned up the computer at no charge. Amazing service. read more

I came with a computer that I had spilled coffee on. I tried to disassemble it myself but was not experienced enough. I dropped off my computer at Computerbase due to it running extremely slow. Mike was pleasant and easy to work with. He asked a few basic questions and didn't roll his eyes when I didn't know some of the answers (what can I say, I am not computer savy!!). It was ready to be picked up a few days later; the day he said it would be. He did a few upgrades, removed lots of malware, and gave me a couple of tips of how to avoid problems like this again. Mike was terrific, fixed my Surface Computer for a very reasonable cost after Microsoft said it couldn't be fixed without completely reinstalling the operating system and wiping out most of my programs. This isn't Best Buy...no ambivalent teenagers on summer vacation. Mike is highly knowledgeable and if you can clearly explain what you need he can handle almost any end-user build or problem. System building was done very quickly (I think it was a single day. Much better than the 8 business days our IT company quoted.) and for the price I don't think you would save anything by assembling the components yourself. Problem-solving skills = very yes! Hands down best customer service I've ever experienced. Mike is knowledgeable and helpful. The first time I went in there was to see if they had a cable that I was missing to hook up a new video card I bought. Not only did he have the cable, he gave it to me for free and told me if it worked I could pay him $5. The cable didn't work so I ended up just buying a card from him but he let me use the card before I paid for it to see if I wanted it or not and told me I could take it back in a couple weeks if it didnt work. He didnt have the money to refund me but I trusted him enough to leave the new card with him and he had the refund check the following morning. Very reliable and trustworthy. I've never wrote a review before about anything but this guy deserves one. I will come back to this shop only. read more
