Run, run, RUN! This place is a scam and the doctor is a business man! When I called to schedule an appointment I was advised that they took my insurance. When front desk came in to collect $150 for the consultation, I stated that I was confused since I have insurance. That I should only pay a copay. The front desk rep said chiropractic billing is a bit different and that insurances don't cover Q codes. I mentioned I had previously been to a chiropractor and that my insurance had covered my visit. She then states, well you have a deductible. I paid the consultation fee thinking this lady doesn't know what she's talking about. My insurance will process the claim and then I'll get a refund. Then the doctor comes in with a plan for treatment. The price was over 2k! I advised the doctor again that I had insurance. He went on and on about insurances and how they will bill out thousands of dollars and insurances only come back and pay $40. I said I needed to discuss the treatment plan with my daughters dad and then make a decision. He said, we'll since you're already here, would you like an adjustment. I said yes, he leaves "to get the adjustment room ready" and next thing I know, here's comes front desk again. She said it would be $80 for the adjustment! AGAIN, I stated my insurance covers adjustments. She mentioned that I had a deductible. I agreed thinking my insurance would process the claim and I would receive a refund. I walked out paying $230 and feeling taken advantage of! The receipt that was provided to me with the codes for billing did NOT include a Q code. It was an E&M code for a new patients. I reached out to my insurance right after my visit and it turns out the are NOT in network with my insurance! I feel taken advantage of and lied to! The 1st red flag should have been when they asked for my credit card in order to schedule my appointment! If you're so unhappy with how insurances process claims, you should consider stating you're a cash only provider! read more

I had an initial "free" consultation. The Dr was super polite and seemed very interested and knowledgeable. He was patient and asked lots of questions. I decided against using this practice when my free consultation turned into hundreds of dollars for testing. I understand getting an x-ray and I am completely in favor of that, but the other testing (which sounded really great and helpful, by the way) was way out of my budget and unique to Dr Black's practice. All this testing being required before he would treat me, I took my business elsewhere. I rate three stars because I felt a bit misled....better wording might be "free consultation exclusive of initial testing." read more

I'm going to have to diverge from my fellow Yelpers here. I did not enjoy my experience at Maximal Health. I went for my 'free' new patient exam and walked out having paid $150 and feeling taken advantage of. The first red flag is that they had me sit and watch a promotional video on chiropractic care at the start of the appointment - I'm at the chiropractor, I don't need to be sold on it's benefits. The second is that they gave me a packet of information endorsing Dr. Black and his writings and a huge price list for supplements. I was not there for nutritional counseling, I was there for an adjustment. A tech had me change into a hospital gown and took me through a series of tests. Then Dr. Black came in and asked me some questions, went and got a different tech and Dr. Kelly. Then they left and the first tech came back and told me to sign for the services they were providing - a host of tests - and that I'd be charged $150. I signed it but didn't understand that the appointment up to that point was free and after that point they were charging me $150. When I got home and looked at the website that's when I realized it says 'free new patient exam' so I called them to tell them I was confused about what I had paid for. Dr. Kelly said I was paying to cover x-rays they advised me to get and I told him I wasn't planning on getting the x-rays and that he should refund me my money but he would not. Back to the exam, which at this point is over an hour long, they did another test, had me change back into my clothes, they took pictures of my posture and did range of motion tests. Then they advise me that in order to get the results of all the tests I just did I have to schedule another hour long appointment and bring my husband. That is the most absurd thing I have ever heard. When I checked out they re-emphasized that I should book the results appointment right away (after going to get the x-rays I already paid for without realizing it) and bring my spouse because treatment is a 'whole family' event. Ludicrous. Dr. Kelly kept telling me on the phone that they won't apologize for being thorough but I felt like they were not transparent. And he kept saying they needed all of the information to decide if they would 'take my case', like I was auditioning to be a patient. I went in for minor back pain and am healthy as a horse so the whole thing felt ridiculous. I cancelled my follow-up and don't plan to go back. If you're looking for integrated medicine and to be sold a whole suite of services you may or may not want while dragging your family members to appointments with you go for it. To me, their approach felt very pushy, sales-y and over the top. Plus the fact that they didn't fully explain the pricing and process to me while I was there and then refused to refund my money after I called to complain and to tell them that if they were charging me for x-rays they should give me a refund because I wasn't going to get them. Overall a bad experience. At the end of the day, I spent 1.5 hours and $150 to not get an adjustment or even have any results from the 'thorough' testing they put me through. So, even if you haven't injured or severed your spinal cord, it is still important for people to understand that maintaining a healthy spine could actually help improve other bodily functions as well. After all, our spinal cord is what helps carry our major nerve impulses to and from the brain and throughout the rest of the body. I injured my back in 1998, from a rear end car accident, and have been visiting different chiropractors throughout the metroplex since. The regular office visits has become an inconvenience for me, but were very much necessary. I own and operate an event rental concierge business and also sell homes as a realtor. Both jobs require me to be on my feet and in front of clients. After religious doctor visits of the traditional routine adjustments and endless prescriptions of pain meds, I knew I needed more than a bandaid to cover this pinched nerve of mine that was the cause of my reoccurring symptoms. Through the power of Yelp, I came across some really great reviews on Dr Jason Black. Voted Best Chiro of Irving the last couple years consecutively? Cool, sounds good enough for me to pay him a visit. So, I called into the office and was able to schedule a consultation appt within that same week. Some highlights from my first visit are, 1- There were plenty of parking spaces 2- Friendly Front staff welcomed and greeted me professionally - and helps that the girls are easy on the eyes too =) 3 - the technology and clean facility - each patient gets a key fob to scan in during visit which pulls up your health records and history of progress, which I found was really neat and not what I would typically experience in most chiro offices. Dr Jasons approach is that our daily habits if practiced and balanced right, will result in an overall healthy mind, body and soul. Yes, I came in with the expectations of an adjustment which I received, but I walked out with so much more. He has me on a daily probiotic, introduced me to some resistance training moves that I can do from home or at the gym, recommended some meal plans and even suggested some inspirational books to read that will help keep me on track to maintaining a healthier life. We are all guilty of spending our health to find our wealth, that we later spend our wealth to regain our health. Slow down and take care of yourself!! I've been a patient for about a year and a half now and feel very fortunate to have Drs. Black and Kelly here in town. Both doctors are very kind, patient, and clearly care deeply about their patients' overall health and well-being. It started off with a free consultation through facebook promotion and his office being really close to home, i thought why not give a Chiropractor a shot since I've practically been to a PCP and Specialist and after several X-Ray's, MRI, PT nothing helped with my issue. Their office is clean and the staff seemed helpful. However, that's where the good stuff stops. He did not come across as a doctor who is looking to treat patients but rather a doctor who is after the money. Part of his free consultatation, we spoke for a good 20 mins where i gave him a thorough run down of the issue at hand. He asked me to put on a gown, lay down and said he will step out for a bit and be back only to realize that he sends his staff to explain next steps that includes X-Rays, and then treatment plan that could include 3-12 weeks of therapy. Mind you, I am not opposed to the idea of a therapy, but i'm sure no doctor will push paper and recommend therapy without laying a finger on you and in this case, the doctor is a Chiropractor! Nothing felt right from that point onwards and I left the facility feeling thankful for not falling into a trap. BEWARE! read more

Amazed by my experience with Dr Black and his staff. Everyone was so friendly and the office was very nice and clean. I started developing pain in my thumb all the way up to my wrist from working on handstands and lifting weights. It was so bad that I couldn't use my left hand for basic tasks like opening a jar or even pulling my pants up. It was recommended to have at least 4 treatments of minor adjustments and the Class 4 laser. I'm shocked that after only two quick visits I feel no pain and have full use of my hand. I'm going to finish the recommended amount of treatments just to make sure it's healed but so happy with my results so far! Thank you Dr Black! read more

***LIAR***CHEATER***FRAUD*** Beware of him. He plays with human psychology and sets a trap so that people will fall into the trap and he can squeeze money out of them. He is the most unethical doctor I have ever seen and is full of lies. Here is how he does it and and he even robbed me more without doing any good to me(infact I have more problems with my back before I started going to him) . He will first give some promotion of $35 or $50 for first time check up. Then he will ask you to come with your spouse for the next visit where he will share the results. This is a trap as most of the spouse will be really worried and persuade you to spend any outrageous amount he would have quoted. My advice: Never ever go with your spouse and take your decision after carefully consideration and consulting other doctors. He will show the results of thermal scan with black and red lines. Now I know, the thermal scan he does will show some problem with most adults. Then he will tell you people don't feel 10% of problems what they have and hence you should do the chiropractic care. Now I feel 5 times more problems than what I originally had before I visited him. He will show you that you have difference in weight between your left leg and right leg. If you are not aware as I was not initially this is a fact with everyone. Now I have more weight difference between my legs and I can feel one leg shorter while walking. When I asked him about that he gave me some bullshit reason that as your spine alignment is changing you feel like that and it will be OK. It has been more than 2 months and I still have the problem. He would then say that he will invite you to his seminars which people pay thousands to attend. Trust me, I have attended his seminars in which max 10 people will be there and he will just show you clippings from youtube of other people, TV shows and catch lines from internet. I would not pay $50 to attend those though they are informative. I am at double loss as I have more problems with my back before I started going to him and he even drained my HRA account(without my consent) even after getting money from me in cash and from insurance. Now he won't return the full money he got without my consent. I request anyone who has similar experience with him to share so that in future people won't fall into this trap and suffer as I am doing now. read more

Dr. Black and Dr. Kelly helped me recover from a low back injury I had for years and have helped me get back to my normal physical activities! Before I went to them I was not able to sit or drive for very long but now I am able to do that comfortably. I am also able to sleep comfortable without any back pain. I definitely feel very relaxed every time I walk out of the office. The office is modern and high tech. They have traction tables to stretch out the spine as well as massage chairs. Both doctors are very patient and explain everything in a way that is easy to understand. Scheduling appointments is fast and easy since they just email you and are always able to fit you in/reschedule when it is convenient for you. I love that they focus on the whole body and provide ways for you to maintain alignment not only when you get adjusted but when you are at home as well. read more
