They just lost a sale. I went there specifically to buy a sofa. I asked for a traditional sectional sofa, not leather, not grey or black. The woman who greeted me told me just look around, they are all over the showroom. I'm still possible she's not been trained on what a traditional sectional sofa is. There was ONE. But, she couldn't tell me where it was? No one asked if I needed help. There was a single customer in the shop. If this is how their service works, I will be buying my sofa someplace else. read more

Here's why. 1) Ethan Allen had the exact sofa I wanted. 2) Sofa design, fabric (I picked ultrasuede), and sofa quality exceeded my expectations. 3) Custom order completion was less than 7 weeks (ahead of schedule). 4) Ethan Allen is still produced in North America, and their furniture quality has remained consistent over the years...impeccable!! 5) Michelle Scott was my sales rep who was knowledgeable, professional and genuinely interested in finding the right piece of furniture to meet my needs. Michelle's interpersonal and follow-up skills through order delivery set the standards that every sales rep should strive to achieve. I left the house thinking it was going to take weeks for my wife and I find and agree on a new sofa. Walked in to Ethan Allen on a Saturday afternoon and was greeted by Callie Wells. Callie was very polite and listened to all of the ideas I had for our new sofa. She shared her thoughts in a manner that was very helpful. Callie never made me feel that I was in a high pressure sales situation. My wife was not with me and Callie agreed to come to our home the next morning to meet with my wife and share ideas that would work with our living room. After visiting our home in the morning Callie went back to the stored and pulled fabrics she thought would work well. She then returned to our house and made it very easy to select the best options for our new sofa. Callie made two visits to our house in one day and we purchased the perfect sofa within 24 hours. Truly disappointing experience. When the showroom did not have what we were searching for, a very insistent woman would not leave us alone, stating we should design the sizing of a sofa with her, and select coverings for it and the ottoman, (which cost $1300 to add on.) We waited nine weeks for these items, and with two thousand dollars taken day of design. Two days prior to delivery, they charged us the remaining $3900. To our utter dismay, the sofa did not even fit into our stairwell. The delivery staff were rude and arguing with each other, damaging our walls with the legs of the sofa, which had no foam or protective film, and neither did the sofa itself. The ottoman was clearly damaged and dirty, to where it had to be tossed on asphalt and then delivered to us. The couch too, was too dirty to clean. The design team did not offer to come to our house to measure anything, which the delivery team said was wrong. So, ten weeks after pre-ordering and paying, we are still without anywhere to sit in our living room. The response from the designer and the store is nil; we are to wait until we learn if our request for a refund is granted? Highly suspicious. We will never return to Ethan Allen as this is the second time they have totally dismayed us. We have several photos to show our financial institution as we will not accept anything less than a full refund for such poor service, poor delivery, damaged furniture, and damaged walls! read more

Moving itself is stressful enough, buying funiture to fill up the house is just as stressful. I have been to this Ethan Allen a couple of times with my boyfriend's mom to look for furniture for our new place...my boyfriend is not the type who enjoys shopping for furniture and also had a very tough time making up his mind about what he likes and he doesnt like. There is where I come in...I love interior design and I think I have a good sense of style when it comes to home decor, after all I grew up watching HGTV and all the designing shows. The ladies here are very nice...not aggressive sales people who enjoy following you around asking a million and one questions. I saw a couple pieces of furniture I liked and decided to show my boyfriend. I went to the Ethan Allen in Tustin and all the sales rep ignored us so we decided to come back to this location. It took two trips and a couple to finallie purchase our one piece of sofa. The best part about the purchase we made was the customization....we picked out fabrics, wood, nail heads, pillows and even picked how soft or firm we wanted the sofa to be so it made the whole experience and the sofa very personalized. Our designer said it takes up to 3 months to make and deliver...we got it in about 2 months. Our designer was very friendly and not pushy at all...she was helpful in answering the many questions we had and that made the whole process more enjoying for my poor boyfriend. Our personalized sofa was expensive...the sad part is we still have to buy two more arm chairs to match and a coffee table. For the price we paid for one piece of sofa we could possibily get our whole house furnished with dinner tables and two sets of living room set at a regular furniture store. At the end of the day quality is always better than quantity so that sofa was worth every penny. Ethan Allen furniture is very sophisicated without looking too vintage for a young couple like us. She contacted us and asked to look at the pillows and repair appropriately. She made this very easy for us by driving out to our house and picking up the pillows. She turned it around very quickly and drove back out to the house to deliver the pillows. They looked as we would have expected the first time around. I contacted Ethan Allen over a year ago and have had the opportunity to fill my new condo with beautiful furniture, rugs, cushions, window treatments, bedding and pictures that will last a lifetime. I have been working with designer Michelle Scott and it is a delightful collaboration. I originally thought our aesthetics paired perfectly but this underestimates her talent to discover the preferences of ANY client with whom she works. With over 25 years experience in design, she has innumerable contacts who have installed a custom designed canopy, shades, drapery and valances all chosen by the two of us. She easily and quickly pulls samples of fabrics and hardware. She will enthusiastically agree with my choice or gently suggest why something else would work better. She will contact me when something has been delayed and even encouraged me to send a letter to corporate when I found the delivery service unacceptable. She obviously enjoys her work and she has become a friend as well as a consultant. read more

I'm sure the other salespeople that work that are also just as wonderful. From the moment we walked in the door of Ethan Allen we received top notch service. Her cheery personality, warmth, honesty and positive attitude actually made the challenging decision process enjoyable! At no time did we ever feel pushed or manipulated into a direction we didn't want to go or feel pressure to buy more than we wanted. Her knowledge of the Ethan Allen product line is outstanding. She always knew where to go to find the answer if she didn't already know it off the top of her head. She stuck with us patiently as we vacillated between our choices and really made the whole thing a lot of fun. She is intuitive, creative and has excellent taste and truly helped us put together a lovely living room that we will love for many years. Ethan Allen is VERY lucky to have her on board with their team! We will certainly be recommending others to seek her out when looking for design advice and furniture selections. As far as the location itself, it's one of their smaller ones so we did have to go to the Tustin location to see a few items. In fact all of the pieces we ordered were not at the LN location. Parking is super easy. Hours are great. In terms of expensive vs. quality, there is always a manufacturer who can make furniture more or less expensive than EA but we feel their prices are fair for the quality of furniture we are getting. read more

Purchased two recliner chairs just over a year ago with fabric upholstery. They are located in a room with a window but no direct sunlight. Fabic has started to wear and fade. Fading happen in areas that no lite hits the fabric. Per our request Ethan Allen rep came out and agreed to the fabic wearing. BUT! Since the chairs are in a room with a window the fading is expected.Even though NO direct sunlight has occured. I asked the representative - so to avoid fading the chairs should be in a room with no windows. She said - They should be in a room wit no light to avoid fading. - who has a room like that. We are so happy with Ethan Allen Laguna Niguel and we absolutely love Monica Fatolahi! She came to our home, took measurements and got a feel for exactly what we needed. My husband and I then met with her at the store where she had put together a beautiful display along with a folder with pictures, fabrics, furniture, lighting, artwork, decorative pieces and prices. She helped us pick out everything!! She spent all day with us and if we were unsure of something she was happy to help us find another choice. We felt no pressure to buy, but we loved all her recommendations. The pieces we've received so far look incredible in our home. I do not have a decorating flair, so I was extremely grateful. She is beyond talented, she put together things I would never have tried and it looks amazing! I can text her with any question and she responds right away. I have found a decorator for life. Monica is AMAZING! I am so lucky she happened to be on the sales floor when I stopped in to look around. I explained to her that I was looking to redo my living room, dining room, family room and breakfast nook in an elegant coastal decor. I explained that I wanted every room to look cohesive and flow. She has the patience of a saint, very knowledgeable and really listens to what you like. My husband and I normally do not agree on any decorative items and have very bland taste. Monica was able to get us out of our comfort zone by mixing and matching colors and finishes that still worked for both of us. She has helped us make our house a home even down the art work, draperies, rugs and decorative items for my shelves and counter tops not to mention couches, tables, lighting fixtures, etc, etc. She is very good about helping you stay on budget and understands that you may need to do things in phases. There is a person I believe in management-she is approximately 60 years old andspeaks with an English accent-who is extremely rude. I have visited the store three times now, and each time have had some interaction with her. On one particular occasion, she literally told me that I needed to leave the store because they were closing in one minute. On the other two occasions, she was dismissive of the employees she worked with, as well as other customers or concerns. This is one of the reason that consumers like me are turning to online shopping, as opposed to shopping in stores. Plus, once I visited the location I was able to find the same items on line and simply have them shipped from those sites rather than to deal with this person. Ethan Allen continues to violate their own code of conduct. I spoke with my design consultant about the Peter, the district manager, and how offensive, rude, condescending,and unwilling to hear my request. She told me to "Get over it and let them deliver the furniture." It is wrong for a high end company to not explain nor mention cost. Now, I find out that I owe 7 more thousand dollars after financing what I thought (and was not told) was the complete order. Broad sweeping statements like "oh great, we'll be able to get everything " They do not discuss the contract or send any statements stating that a remainder is outstanding and required before delivery. Not even a call from the designer who had stated she would help with paint and color selection. I love the furniture, I am outranged by their vague broad strokes and deceitful sales tactics. They put no effeort into any type of resolution. I have never had a bad experience with Thomasville, Plummers, or other furniture stores. I am shocked that when I ask questions, they derail so answers are never attainable. I want a refund so I can take my business to someone who cares and is straight forward. They need a professional sales team that cares about the customer. Some one who doesn't whisper to the others with snide remarks while talking to a customer! Its not OK. read more

My husband and I are so grateful that we met Tanya Blomquist, a designer, at the Laguna Niguel Store!! I highly recommend her as a designer. She was quick to get my vibe and to understand our limited budget. We were at the beginning stages of a remodel. Because many of my all-time favorite furniture pieces came from Ethan Allen, I stopped by the store to browse and to be inspired. Wow! Tanya's warmth, professionalism and knowledge of design made me set up an in-home consult the next morning. She accomplished putting together a basic plan in that 90 minute appointment. We followed up in store a few days later where she'd put together colors, fabrics, and furniture choices that used as many things I already owned as possible to achieve the greatest impact. She narrowed down the "must-haves" to meet our budget. I ended up buying our couches elsewhere, but bought rugs, a coffee table, chairs, etc through her. Whenever I had a design question like, "Tanya the painters are here ready to paint the new Dutch Door, what kind of finish should the black door be??!! flat, matte, gloss, etc?!" She called me back immediately to avert a crisis. I texted her pics of lighting, chandeliers, accent pieces etc that I was considering and even though I wasn't buying them from her, she gave me advice on how to stay with our design plan. Truly a blessing to us. We needed to return one of the area rugs we received, and Tanya couldn't have been more helpful. I plan to slowly finish the rest of our house with Tanya's help. My husband and I have purchased furniture from Ethan Allen for over 20 years mainly due to the fact there is a long history in my husband's family with Ethan Allen. Almost every room in our house has Ethan Allen furniture. I have in the past been very upset with deliveries of broken or scratched EA pieces. Very disconcerting considering the amount we paid for the furniture. However, in the past we could decide rather or not to take delivery of the furniture once a glaring defect was noticed and we did not pay in advance of the delivery. Recently we purchased a beautiful buffet that took quite a while to be delivered. I paid over $3000 for the piece and had to pay the balance before it was delivered...site unseen. The piece was delivered in early November and I sold my old buffet to make room for the new piece. The buffet has a roll out drawer that is broken and will fall off the track if you try to use it. I cannot store my items in the buffet and have been storing dishes in boxes due to this defect. I was told the parts to fix the drawer would be in a matter of a week or so, then I was told the parts would be in no later than Dec 15th. Then I received a call stating they would be out to fix it on Dec 31st and would call to set up a time on Dec. 30th. Well neither has happened and here I am with a buffet that I cannot use! What has always puzzled me about Ethan Allen is their lack of response to an upset customer. I expect better from Ethan Allen especially at the prices of the furniture and they should be better at compensating customers for the inconvenience of their mistakes. I am needing to replace my Ethan Allen kitchen chairs and am really going to think twice about going back there. read more

My husband and I recently ordered a LOT of furniture from Ethan Allen. Two of the pieces were damaged. Everyone agreed they were damaged, including the service center. Unfortunately, what ensued was a long, unhappy road of unresponsive and aggravating conversations to fix the problem. They were more than happy to take our money but when a problem occurred-one which we did not create-they were VERY combative, argumentative and difficult. I have never written a review but do so now just to warn others--be aware. You can get the same quality elsewhere (likely for less) without the headache. I bought two expensive chairs here. One broke after warranty expiration. A mechanical part was required to repair the chair. It had to be ordered from "home office". The original sales rep, Michelle, was clueless as to how to place the order, and generally annoyed at having to get involved. She called me a week after I gave her my Amex gold card number to buy the $100. part to tell me I needed to sign a "all sales final" agreement before she would place the order. I signed, and now have the part. I will not do business with Ethan Allen again. I would not buy girl scout cookies from Michelle. read more

5/28/16 My mom who is 85+, and i entered the store with no greeting from the huge concierge desk with one employee on the computer and phone, and one employee looking over her shoulder, no response or greeting from either of the 2 persons at the front desk,totally ignored. saturday, may 28 around noon. We also bought ALOT of furniture and window coverings for our house. One issue after another, headache, headache, headache. Ethan Allen has a "take it or leave it" policy. Good luck getting any money back or customer satisfaction if something goes wrong. Paid $3500. for window coverings that have broken TWICE. Asking for refund since they are clearly defective and only getting crickets. Good at taking the money, not good at customer service. Their claim is "it's custom and not returnable" ...custom doesn't mean we have to accept defective. They say they are willing to fix it but it keeps breaking and the first fix took TWO months while I had paper window coverings. For the money paid, that shouldn't happen less than a month after install. It's like hitting my head against the wall. Staff also talks poorly behind customer's back- unprofessional. Still in a battle. Expecting if they see this, they won't give me a dime back, just to retaliate. Considering small claims, which I've never done!! I work too hard for my money though. They don't care. Take your money elsewhere, trust me! This is also the first time I've ever posted a negative review. Months of headache. Ordered a couch that was later discovered might be too big to fit through our front door for delivery. We were told if it doesn't fit through the door, they'll take it back but we would have to pay 15% restocking fee, over $500, and having nothing to show for it. This was a couch picked and measured for the room by a designer. Delivery wasn't considered & then we were on the hook for it. That doesn't seem fair. Other than talking poorly about other customers, I don't totally blame the staff at the store for policy issues. Ethan Allen's overall company policies don't allow their employees much wiggle room to make the customer happy. Ethan Allen should take lessons from Nordstrom customer service and maybe they would have happier clients that come back. Never buying from them again and will tell all my friends and family. Go to Pottery Barn for your nice furniture. At this point, I'm going to Home Depot for my window coverings too!! Guaranteed it'll be a better experience and probably won't break! Don't know of any company that would measure furniture for you and then tell you you're stuck with a fee if it doesn't fit through the door. How is that my fee to pay? Unbelievable policies. read more
