When I visited Ethan Allen I was not sure what I wanted or needed to do with my family room. i had been to other stores and could not seem to get the help I needed.The Designer was very friendly and had great design ideas. I scheduled the consultation to make sure that I was going in the right direction with paint colors etc. There were a few pieces that I had from the past that I wanted to keep and she worked them into the plan. The delivery went well and my room has never looked better. It is so nice to have guests into my home and to feel proud of the way the room looks. Nothing but a headache. Purchased a bed from the Albany - Schenectady, NY store. Delivery guys scuffed the white bed with their muddy boots and then installed the wrong box spring. Apparently, it will take a total of three service calls (with missed work to stay home) to fix the situation. When you call the customer service number the voicemail is full and you cannot leave a message. Very disappointing considering the price of the bed. I wish I had read the reviews of the others on here before shopping at this design center. While we were able to furnish our living room from this store without a hitch, the customer service we have received with regard to the items we've purchased for our dining room has been extremely disappointing to the point where this store has likely lost my future business. We ordered a rug June 11, well aware of the 10 week delivery time so that we would have plenty of time for the rug to come and still purchase the rest of the furniture we needed in time for Thanksgiving dinner of 10. We called in mid/late July to check in and was told everything was on schedule. When the first week of September rolled around and we hadn't heard anything we called to find out what was going on. I called on a Sunday and was told that the rug had been back ordered and would not be in until the middle of October. I told them this was the first we'd heard of it and that that would not work for us. The woman told us should would have our designer call us back. When we did not hear from him that day, Monday, or Tuesday, I called again on Wednesday morning. Dan (apparently the store manager) answered the phone. I told him what had happened and he said he would call the warehouse to find out what was going on. He confirmed that the rug was back ordered but offered to provide his floor model as a loaner until our rug arrived. I said I would talk to my husband about it and get back to him. I considered the idea of having a used rug in my house half the solution and certainly expected more for (a) the inconvenience of having to wait 5 MONTHS for a rug and (b) the fact that no one made sure to reach us and let us know that it was back ordered. (Apparently our designer called and left a message in early August but we have no record of it and he certainly didn't call more than once or send an email to ensure we knew what was going on...) Later that day I received a call from a woman named Ann, although I'm not sure why. She again confirmed the rug was back ordered and wanted to know if we wanted the loaner rug. I said we were interested but wanted to know what else they were going to do to resolve this situation. She offered up nothing. When I asked her if she thought simply providing me with a used rug temporarily was appropriate given the circumstance she put me on hold. Ultimately we scheduled the rug delivery that Saturday and she told me she would get back to me about what else they would do. I did not hear from anyone (our designer, Dan, or Ann) either later that day, Thursday or Friday. On Saturday, the designer arrived with the rug and though he was apologetic and nice, he only provided us with further excuses. He told us that in fact the rug was not back ordered but that the delay was because ANN HAD ORDERED THE WRONG RUG, and THAT IT HAD HAD TO BE REORDERED. 3 people we spoke to before our designer failed to tell us that and instead chose to LIE TO US ABOUT THEIR MISTAKE. This made their failure to rectify this situation even worse and really upset my husband and I. We were repeat customers with additional rooms to furnish - knowing that the timing of delivery was important to us and that the delay was because of THEIR MISTAKE, there should have been an immediate effort to ensure things were made right. Instead, we were being put off with pithy solutions, lies and excuses. To make matters worse the "loaner" rug was visibly DIRTY. The designer offered to have it cleaned but then promptly informed us it would take TWO WEEKS to get someone out to our house to have that done!!! Unbelievable. After listening to the designer's story about what had happened (at this point we still have not been offered any sort of remuneration other than the dirty loaner rug) he told us it was not within his power to do anything more for us and he would have to talk to his manager, Dan. I told him all we want to know is exactly when we are going to hear Ethan Allen's proposal for resolving this issue. He looked my husband and I in the face and said he would call us back that day. Around 6:30pm, we received a voicemail from him, saying that his manager was going to have to talk to the owner about a solution and would get back to us. We have not heard from anyone today. I can't begin to express my frustration and disappointment in how Ethan Allen has handled this situation. The fact that over a week has gone by since our dissatisfaction was brought to their attention (a situation that they actually knew about weeks before but failed to be honest and forthright about with us) and they STILL have not offered to do anything for us but provide a dirty loaner rug boggles my mind. At this point, I have lost my trust in this store and its employees. I'm not sure what it would take to regain that trust and earn our patronage back. read more

I would like to acknowledge Mak Makalinao as a warm and caring professional. She was my designer at Ethan Allen where I purchased an entire living room from her. She helped me at the store,; showed me different selections, helped with fabric choices, came to my home to measure and help me visualize and best of all call to check on my delivery EARLY as I have guests arriving and I was praying it would be ready....and it WAS...she had them deliver and the delivery guys were great too I might add! We recently purchased a dining table that ended up being too large for our dining space. Dan, the manager, quickly agreed to exchange it for us. Purchased a Townsend recliner less than 1 year ago with what was suppose to be a high quality gray leather. The gray leather has turned white in several places biggest area is on the head rest. Called Ethan Allen to have it fixed and they declined to fix it. The high quality leather is like a cheap vinyl. I have had several leather chairs and this is the only one that has done this. I will never purchase anything from Ethan Allen again. Their warranty service is horrible. They are really nice when it comes to selling you a product but they do not stand behind their products. I bought a rug for my family room from Ethan Allen and absolutely love it. The service was great- the salesperson asked plenty of questions to figure out what we needed, followed up as we waited for delivery, and was overall very helpful. I purchased most of my prior home's furniture from Ethan Allen and was very happy. So I reached out to the Austin Ethan Allen as we realized our former home's living room furniture wasn't going to work in our new home. I know what I am looking for and understand their process. The designer kept rescheduling appts (or just completely forgot) and then had the nerve to ask if I was going to make a purchase by the end of the month (less than a week away) and sounding impatient with me. I found it odd since we had not finalized any seating plans, fabrics, etc. I actually debated calling the store to let them know of my experience as I've been treated this way before - ever. I am a long-standing customer but I tried to give her grace in that moment. When we did finally meet up, I didn't get the same level of customer service that I received for my prior Ethan Allen store. Then she came back out to my home and didn't even bring many of the samples we agreed upon. It was such a mess that I decided not to move forward. read more

I bought a beautiful silver accent table and a vase from Ethan Allen. The table was damaged which I returned without any issues. It was replaced with a brand new one. They also waived my shipping cost without my having to ask them. The quality of the table and vases is spectacular. I love this company. read more

STAY AWAY FROM THIS STORE and this company is all I can say. Their competitors can serve your needs much better. First off all lead times are huge, you order something you'll get delivery 3-4 months down the road. Not only that, during the ordering process the sales team does not explain or go over the return or exchange program which can bite you big time if your order is huge. In my case when some of the items were not upto mark for which I expressed concerns it was only then they told me about the 35% restock fee. To discuss this matter further with the owner Robert Chesnick, I sent him an email to reconsider the decision for waiving off the 35% restock fee in exchange for other goods at the store. The owner completely refused that there was anything like 35% restock fee and told me items could not be returned and or exchanged. This was completely different of what I was explained at the store. Conversations with the owner were pretty antagonistic. He is very arrogant and rude and completely clueless what it means to provide good customer service, and retain customers. He has no attitude for helping or taking care of customers. Unfortunately this is another ETHAN Allen store which is tarnishing the brand of this corporation. The number of consumer complaints against Ethan Allen are huge and the corporation is doing little or nothing to resolve this. Price do not match the service provided. Ethan Allen does not stand by the commitment of customer service. We ordered our living room furnitures. After delivery we wanted some custom covers sewn and ordered the covers. When we ordered, we were asked to pay the total amount upfront and we did and were communicated that it will not take 12 weeks like the furniture did. When we did not receive the items even after 2 months, I called the manager and was informed that the design associate left the company and my order was not taken care of. I asked her that I have paid in full already and what can she do to rectify it and she assured me that she will personally take care of it. After total 12 weeks of receiving my full payment, the manager told me that the design associate made mistake and I need to either pay 3 times more than I was originally charged for or they are happy to refund me. They kept me total charge for 12 weeks and I could have invested it somewhere to receive interest. What struck me hard is we trusted the Ethan Allen name and they are worst than a Walmart. Instead of committing up to the standard of service a customer deserves, the manager used the excuse, "the design associate quit and I'm a new manager". read more

I worked with Jennifer on the design of my bedroom and couldn't be more disappointed with the finished room. The scale of one of my nightstands is too small and she has refused to do anything about it because it was a custom-finish order. The nightstand and matching dresser look like something that came from Steinmart...quality is very disappointing. She was very persuasive with her design during the presentation and convinced me that I should trust her and move forward. I did and absolutely hate the room!!! Ethan Allen refuses to change out lamps and artwork as it has been too long. I just got my final pillows this morning after hoping that this would pull it all together...now they refuse to even take back their in-stock art and lamps. I feel like I have completely wasted a large amount of money and feel angry every time I walk into my bedroom. Ethan Allen and Jennifer do not care at all about providing customer service and helping to resolve the problem. Do not use Jennifer or Ethan Allen - beware! read more

I had the same experience with bad customer service as many of the other reviewers. I originally went to the store for a foyer table/chest and one of the designers Janet offered to come to the house to help with the selection. I thought this would be very helpful so that I would get something that fit the space that I had. Janet came and measured the space and we pick a chest with storage that was very pretty. It was delivered and as soon as they put it in the foyer I felt the piece was too large for the space. I called Janet to let her know that I was not happy with the piece that we selected and she immediately told me that there would be a 35% restocking fee. I was very disappointed that they were not more concerned with having a customer. I was not asking for a refund but just a piece that would fit the space better. After much complaining they did finally give me full credit for the piece which I still have not replaced. Janet never returned my phone calls and chose to inform me of this by email. I still have a $1500 credit at the store but dread having to deal with them again. I should also mention that I bought a table and chairs from them that I am very happy with. I spent over $15,000 with them and they really don't seem to care about the customer at all. Once I spend my $1500 credit, I am done with Ethan Allen! read more
