The designer told Owen what we said and Owen responded to him by saying "lawyers, WTF this guy is a dumb ass, I knew they couldn't afford me to begin with." Who's the dumb ass now. Any way we fired them and got a terrific landscaper who we are absolutely happy with.

We obtained other bids, but ultimately selected Owen because of how personable, professional, and knowledgeable he was. We couldn't have been happier with the end result. The ten-week project included a concrete patio, retaining walls and steps, irrigation, drainage, lighting, fencing, pergola assembly, gas and electrical lines, plants, ground cover (gravel and mulch), and fire table and hot tub installation. Owen's crew was skilled, friendly and hard-working. His foremen Al and Nestor were amazing to work with and did an outstanding job leading the project. Owen was closely involved every step of the way. He provided numerous suggestions that either weren't in the original plan from the landscape design company or were an improvement to the original plan. This was one of the biggest reasons we're glad we worked with Mitchell Landscapes - Owen's combination of strong design and practical sense resulted in a landscape that far surpassed the original plan. Owen was also honest, transparent, and fully committed throughout the project. Even after our project was completed, Owen and his crew came back several times to check plants and irrigation, as well as to unload and carry a 600 lb fire table into our backyard. After the outstanding experience we had working with Mitchell Landscapes, we will definitely use them for all of our future landscaping projects.

Seems to me they are taking advantage of consumers and a supposed arrangement with the developer who clearly doesn't know what is (NOT) being done.

But in my experience, that is not always reliable, and it pushes extra work on a potential customer. They might or might not be great with their work, but if I can't talk to them without exposing my number to marketing, I will take my business to someone who has greater respect for my privacy and time.

We took out a lot of the grass and installed gravel with beautiful plantings and an olive tree. They built a pergola with privacy screening over our new hot tub. Built raised planter beds and created a fire pit area. They also helped with screens that will trellis vines to provide shade and privacy. We also have a low rock wall that separates the lawn from the gravel area. Mike was great about communicating with us all along the way. I really appreciated his friendly crew. Hagy was very responsive and took our ideas to the next level. Their experience in doing work in the Sonoma area and creative approach brought a wine country touch to our Novato backyard. They even worked around the needs of our dog so it always had a place to go even if the yard was in full demolition mode. I am delighted to share our experience with Bazan Landscaping. We recently completed a front yard…read moremakeover and couldn't be more pleased with the results and with the expertise and service provided by Hugo Bazan and his colleagues. Hugo provided a detailed estimate for the work, far more thorough than the other landscape contractors from which we requested bids. He was the only contractor to provide references, and when we visited the properties we were extremely impressed by the quality of the work and by the knowledgeable and elegant design. When we talked with the homeowner at the first property we visited, he noted that he was so pleased that he recommended Bazan Landscaping to his brother, who took his advice. Hugo's brother Carlos has an engineering degree from university in Mexico, and we benefitted greatly from his talents; as one example, he recommended a different type of stone than we had planned for the edging of front steps, and his advice was excellent. The result was a more accessible and stylish entrance to our home. Hugo and Carlos also offered suggestions on the color of the pavers we selected, which complemented perfectly the stone and paint scheme on our home. Every member of Bazan's crew was skilled and courteous. I was extremely impressed by the level and range of skills each worker possessed, from carpentry and stonemasonry to handling tractors and other heavy equipment. Hugo knows a vast network of skilled craftsmen, so when we decided to pour a new concrete sidewalk and driveway approach, he was able to handle this facet of the project in a timely and effective manner, and the cost was considerably less than other contractors. Hugo offered us expert recommendations on our sprinkler and lighting systems as well, pointing us to excellent buys on professional-grade equipment and providing clean and efficient installation. I have never encountered a contractor providing this level of customer service. Hugo Bazan has demonstrated a genuine commitment to quality and takes great pride in his company's work. He was always responsive to phone calls and questions and continually checked to confirm that we were satisfied with the quality and pace of the work. Throughout our project, he demonstrated professionalism, generosity, and integrity. We plan to do a back yard makeover in the next few months and will again use Bazan Landscaping. I cannot think of a stronger recommendation and urge you to give full consideration to this excellent contractor. ***** UPDATE ***** Since I wrote the review above in August 2013, we had Bazan Landscaping do a full makeover on our back yard, tearing out cracked concrete decking around our pool and again installing the excellent CalStone pavers we used in our front yard. Hugo added drainage lines, a concrete pad for pool equipment, a foundation for a 9x13 garden shed, as well as irrigation and lighting. The quality was, as before, superb. Again, his crew demonstrated excellent skills and an efficient work mode. Hugo offered his usual cogent advice on creating a powerful aesthetic, resulting in an elegant design, and we couldn't be more pleased with the outcome. Since my 2013 review, Bazan Landscaping has reinvested revenues in the business, adding several tractors, a dump truck, and other equipment. They've done many and diverse projects, from substantial retaining walls to condo hardscapes. They've expanded their crew, and trained them in the high level of skills and commitment expected of Bazan staff. As before, I recommend Bazan Landscaping with great enthusiasm and sincerity.
