We had a broken line (one that Ken had worked on recently). As soon as I saw that we had an issue with our irrigation system, I contacted Ken. His response was "Sure Tuesday or Thursday it would be at the end of the day." Great- this is the kind of prompt response you would be glad to receive, if there was follow-through...But there wasn't... he didn't show up at all that week. I should have heeded the other negative reviews of this guy. We had a emergency leak in our system, so I contacted Ken Smith. He said he could come a week and a half later. He would not give me an actual time, even though I asked. I put in on my calendar and waited. Day of the appointment we were really busy around the house trying to get things ready for an event. I expected Ken to show up "afternoon or evening" whatever that meant. I guess I was supposed to be checking my phone the whole day hoping he would contact me, but I was busy and figured he'd show up like he said. Nope. Later I saw a text from him about a time and wrote him back and nothing. I apologized for not seeing his text earlier and wrote him a couple times over the course of a week. No response at all. So, if you want to deal with a guy who seems to think he's doing you a favor, won't give an appointment time, and just has an attitude, then Ken Smith might be the clown for you. read more

Ken is very knowledgeable and the only sprinkler "expert" we could find. He was responsive, was able to quickly diagnose problem with our dripping underground PVC pipe and after we did the labor (digging) he returned and made the necessary fixes without having to rip up cement to get to leak. Ken Smith is a legit guy. He was quick to figure out the cause of the leak for one of my sprinkler valves and his quote was very reasonable to fix it! I would have to say that if you ever wanted to know anything about sprinklers or sprinkler systems, you would get a 10-15 minute dissertation as well as the advantages and disadvantages on all of them. Seriously, one could see that he knows his sh#t and that he has a "passion" about his job. What ticks him off the most are contractors who incorrectly install irrigation systems. He will keep you aware about potential trouble spots for your system or will validate if your system is fine. He's also very professional because he called me to let me know that he was running late for our appointment. How many independent service people do that? After many years of trying to self-diagnose and self-repair our garden irrigation system, we decided it was time to call in a professional. And a professional is what we got! Top notch. Highly recommend. The irrigation system that came with my house was weird & didn't work right. The panel was a pain to program & there were features I couldn't get to work. After breaking a few spray heads, I found Ken on yelp. He was easy to schedule & communicate with using text. When he came by he initially tried to show me how to use my current panel, and gave me a good history of what type it was and where it came from. Then he found some of the areas that just didn't work properly. He was able to install a new panel at a reasonable price which was easier to use and he replaced all of my broken heads, as well as do something completely off the book with regard to the sprinkler system. I had a hose that travels to a garden box which broke off. It was not actually connected to the sprinkler system but he still took care of it by fixing the hose and putting an ankle joint so I could thread a soaker hose and use the connection. Very easy-going guy that takes pride in his work and honors his commitments. Ken does sprinklers ONLY, no landscaping, but the sprinkler work he does, in my opinion, surpasses that of any landscaper. My front and backyard sprinkler systems had fallen into disrepair (numerous broken sprinkler heads, leaky irrigation hoses, a timer that wouldn't work correctly) and the job was too big to do myself. I called Ken, he came to my home, and spent about an hour listening to exactly what I wanted done. He told me the work would take two full days, and he showed up on both days, worked from morning til night, and did all the work himself. He did the work about two months ago, and since then the sprinklers and timer work perfectly, and my lawns have come back to life. I called Ken after another fellow came over. looked briefly at my suddenly non-functional sprinkler valve, and said he'd run new wires for $250. It just didn't sound right. I emailed Ken, who responded almost immediately. He asked what brand of valve was malfunctioning (the first guy barely looked at it), its size and color. When he arrived, he was ready to go. Replaced the valve and upgraded another for the same amount of money. Plus, someone had cemented the faulty valve in place, and Ken had to dig it all out and replumb the main line. He started at 5 in the afternoon (arrived ON TIME) and finished at about 8 at night, and made sure everything was AOK before he left. So: straight shooting, knowledgable and worth every penny. Ken Smith did an outstanding job of helping me with a sprinkler problem I was having. Though he did not do the work, he helped me via email for two weeks, till I finally understood what he was suggesting I do. He stopped by one day during the week to check out my situation. We talked for well over two hours until he felt I knew what I was doing and what I had to do to fix my pressure problem. Ken definitely knows his stuff and so far so good. I haven't had any sprinkler valve issues since I installed the pressure reducer valve he recommended I installed. While I was at it I went ahead and replaced my rain bird and orbit valves with Hunter valves that he recommended, I actually think I'm using less water than before. We all know how water is a premium in California. Even though he's a very busy person, he communicated almost daily for two weeks regarding my situation, now that's a committed service person. I highly recommend Ken, just be prepared to wait a few weeks till he has time to make any repairs for you. He's also a very friendly person and an animal lover, that's a great combination. read more

He checked out the whole system--fixed what needed fixing, verified the watering zones, updated the sprinkler heads that were broken, and just made sure everything was working as designed. Ken just left our home and I'm happy to say that he did a great job. We had controller issues with our automatic sprinklers in the front and back yards. It's a fairly elaborate system and the previous homeowner said she was unable to get the front sprinklers to work and she said there were programming issues with the system in the back. Ken was on time and he was familiar with Hunter (the backyard system) and DIG (the front yard system). He got everything working and I was surprised that it was so reasonable.
