Peppers steak with onion
Edith J.

Do not order the garlic shrimp with rice and beans for $18.00 unless you plan to eat soup! 6 medium to small shrimp with an abundance of garlic sauce which should've been named "garlic sauce with shrimp". -" Also for $18.00 is bistro steak with onions, peppers with side of rice and beans. Again, this item should be called pepper and onion plate! So much peppers and onions! I dug them just to find pieces of steak This place is terrible with portion! Never again! Waste of my hard earned money.

This is my go-to spot in the neighborhood for delicious, no-fail authentic mexican food. I can always rely on them to deliver delicious food and good drinks. The restaurant is clean and spacious. Service is quick and efficient. The only downside was that I had a toddler and I wasn't given napkins, which were much needed. However, other than that one thing everything else was on point. I will always return to Estrellita poblana, and the upside is they have many different locations throughout the Bronx and one newer location in new Rochelle. Check them out, you won't be disappointed!

I used to hit up this spot somewhat regularly and the place has changed from what it was before years ago. The menu is different. They don't have my carne al pastor. Boooo. My go-to was the torta. $10 and filling. Still filling, but my meat of choice is not an option anymore and the meat portion is lighter. I mean, it is prob what is recommended portion wise but...come on! Anyway, service is great, as usual, and they are always busy. Also got a huarache, which is a large puffy tortilla topped with meat, cheese, lettuce and beans. Kind of like if a tostada has a pudgy cousin, this would be it. They are generous with the meat and it is a filling option that is wallet friendly. You also cant go wrong with their horchata. Yum!

The best tacos I've ever had, they were hot and delicious and the service was very fast. The ambiance in the restaurant is very good, the people who work there are very friendly and give a very good service.

Ordered delivery from here tonight, it got here in a timely manner and was super delicious! The rice and beans was tasty and complimented the chicken enchiladas I ordered very well. The enchiladas were perfectly saucy and had a great kick to them. The only thing I didn't like were the raw onions on top, if they were soft or grilled I would have ate them but I ended up just tossing them to the side so next time, I'll ask for no onions. The Maduros were so soft and had the perfect sweetness. For $4, you can't go wrong. There are a few locations for this spot which is nice because I really enjoyed everything and will be back to order some more. The taco salad looked delicious on the other reviews I've seen so I will try that next time. Looking forward to trying an sit down dining experience here since the food was so tasty.

Steak Quesadillas

I ordered over the phone and when I came to pick up 30 mins later, they didn't have my order ready. I had to re-order my food. The only reason why I re-ordered is because I had pleasant experience the first time I sat and ate at the restaurant. When I tell you the flavors of this Chicken Tinga tacos is the reason I waited for my order. The chicken was juicy and all of the ingredients tasted and flowed well together!! My friend enjoyed her steak quesadilla. I will return because it is convenient and they continue to prove they can cook. Can't wait to taste their margaritas!

Maduros

Wouldn't eat here again. Food lacks flavor and quality. The maduros even didn't taste good which is still confusing to me....

Estrellita Poblana is one of those places that has always been in my peripheral vision. This is mainly due to the fact that there are at least four of them in the Bronx and whenever I'm out and about I seem to stumble upon one of them. Besides eating at their location near Arthur Ave years ago, I really had no experience with Estrellita's offerings. My brothers and I were in the mood for Mexican the other night so we decided to head over here for some dinner. Located in the heart of Westchester Square, this Estrellita is decently sized. Walking in there's a small dining area as well as the kitchen and pick-up counter for takeout orders. There's another dining room to the right with more tables which makes it relatively spacious compared to their Arthur Ave spot. The aesthetics are casual - it's not divey but also not as "polished" as a typical Mexican restaurant you would think of. It works though - and the Mexican music they have playing in the background adds to the feel. We were started with the obligatory chips and salsa - the chips were the thick kind which I appreciated and the salsa had the right amount of chunk. I went basic and chose tacos - they had a number of varieties and I noticed they had a deal where you can choose three for a fixed price. This seemed like the best bet - so I chose chicken, chorizo, and spicy pork. The tacos were good - nicely sized (3 of them were perfect for a dinner) and they didn't skimp on the proteins. The spicy pork was my favorite, it had just the right amount of heat. The chicken was probably my least favorite - it had the least flavor and was a tad dry. I don't fully blame Estrellita though, it was made with white meat chicken and I've had these types of tacos from other restaurants with similar experiences. Service was good, everyone was friendly and the food was served at a good pace. Overall, for a local Mexican spot Estrellita dishes out the goods. You won't find a grand presence or mainstream things like strolling Mariachi players and sombreros here, but you will find friendly service and good, honest food. I would have no qualms about returning to this or any other of their locations.

Guacamole de la Casa

So my date and I decided to get the typical Taco Tuesday night out and must say this place delivered. The food was really good and was brought out fairly quick. We got the guacamole with chips to start and I followed up with the steak tacos which were amazing. the Resturant does have plenty of room and for a week day evening wasn't busy which I'm sure on weekends it possibly has a lot more people. We truly enjoyed our time here and would possibly visit again. Attached 2 photos.

Pina Loca

My parents sang praises about their guacamole and pina coladas. I'll say this, I realllyyyyy enjoyed their Pina Loca (pictured) the food was average and their guacamole wasn't anything out of the norm but I definitely see myself returning for their Pina Loca. The pina loca is a margarita and pina colada, they serve it inside a pineapple and give you slices of pineapple with chili salt sprinkled on top-soooooo good!!!!! The staff was friendly and the restaurant decor was typical Mexican style and spacious, also clean. I will be back!

First caught a glimpse of Estrellita a couple of Saturday nights ago, en route to my nephew's Salsa competition and wanted to give it a go. Off the 6 Line, Estrellita has a decent combination of feel, eye-catching colorfulness, with lots of food and drinks listed- away from Westchester Square's traffic. Greeting was polite and hostess asked about seating preferences. Two dining rooms available and honestly, didn't notice the difference. But the first, was empty- so Mumsy and decided on the second with the livelier vibe. Entire menu seems solid for all eaters, but in my opinion, their calling card was their seafood items......that's just me. We were offered the common small bowl of Salsa- which was chunky, (but didn't like the aftertaste) and Chips. Curious about Champurrados (thick, Mexican hot chocolate), I went ahead. Except, the underlining ingredient in it, is Maza- and truthfully, didn't like the taste nor do I have the palate for Hot Chocolate with Corn Meal (but I'm sure it's the best in town)! Mumsy and I shared a Cactus Salad that was very delicious with the most subtle heat. My Mom liked her 'Steak & Shrimp' with fresh mushrooms, other veggies and cooked in a cream sauce. My 'Camarones a La Mexicana' was prepared with succulent, big-enough shrimp, grilled onions and tomatoes. Banging! Passed on the rice and frijoles and offered a side salad. Excellent! Meals and my Agua de Tamarindo were very nice- including price and attentive service. But my only negative comment in all this, has to be the ripped vinyl on some chairs and broken laminate covering on dining tables. I mean......damaged restaurant furniture isn't going to keep me away from Estrellita, but damnnn...wish they can replace them.

$3.00 a Soda! Is called a Rip-off! Shame!!

When you display a bottle of soda (20oz) for $3.00 and they deliver a can that's called misleading the customer!!! Shame on you!!! I purchased 2 bottles of soda and got 2 cans!!! What a ripoff!!

Burrito was good. The mushrooms weren't good in the empanadas. The food was actually tasteless. Won't be back.

When we entered, we were greeted with kind smiles from the ladies and they welcomed us to sit at any free table. Inside has lots of decor with ample seating. We sat and a server grabbed us menus. We got a carnitas burrito, grilled cactus side, horchata, and strawberry limeade (per her recommendation). Everything came so fast, and they even split the burrito for us! Oh my god, everything was so good. This has to be one of the BEST burritos I have ever had, comparable to the ones in San Diego. I love carnitas, and they do it so well here. It was tender, flavorful, just the perfect amount of sauce and seasoning! And the horchata was the best I have ever had too! The strawberry limeade was refreshing, and the grilled cactus was good! It was my first time trying it and it reminded me of aloe vera/okra texture. I had such a great time, such a great experience, I will definitely be back!

They have options for dining in or taking out and were quite efficient We went with a burrito and a few tacos - the burrito is massive, I would say it's meant for two people at once and filled with rice, meat, vegetables, thick flour tortilla and covered with different sauces - it is very heavy! The tacos are Mexican-style with meat and vegetarian options and were simply delicious. The meats we got - carnitas, steak, chicken were all cooked great with tender juiciness. They gave ample lime and sauces to pair as needed. Prices felt reasonable. Overall taqueria tlaxcalli had exceptional Mexican food for NYC with very good hospitality and dining options and I highly recommend! The tacos were a tier above my favorite NYC tacos - Santos, Los tacos no 1 and carnitas Ramirez.

I usually go to the Westchester Square spot as it's the location closest to my parents, but I've also been to their restaurant in Kingsbridge and (most recently) this one on Westchester Ave. The standard items one would expect to find at a Mexican restaurant are on EP's menu. What makes them stand out for me though, is the vast selection they have within each menu section and the quality of they food they serve. My usual go-tos are their burritos and tacos - they offer a variety of proteins to complement and they're always delicious. Outside of that, their soups are great as well as their nachos. I've only eaten in-house a few times; my standard is takeout and it's always ready by the promise time. Overall, Estrellita is a resounding yes for me; they are one of the best examples of quality and consistency, and I would always recommend them for good Mexican food in the Bronx.
