Some helpful hints based on our experience: 1. A big countertop dealer like MSI, located in Elk Grove Village, has a very large showroom where you can see the full countertop slabs. We had some preferences based on the web site pictures and the little quartz samples, but ended up selecting a different slab once we were in the showroom. You really want to see the full countertop slabs before your decision is finalized. 2. We were really disappointed with the Home Depot service, which is The Countertop Factory - Midwest. There was an extremely hard sell visit to our house and a take-it-or-leave it price. 3. Many quartz countertop installation services want you to select quartz they already have in stock. Davan let us shop around and we selected an MSI countetop, which MSI already had in stock. Our job therefore proceeded quickly from final slab selection to installation (less than two weeks). 4. I was unnecessarily nervous about our kitchen tile backsplash when our old formica countertops were replaced with new quartz countertops. We wanted to retain the old kitchen backsplash. That was not a problem and the installation occurred smoothly.

Custom Marble Design, however, were the first to respond and went above and beyond in their customer service, execution, and workmanship. As soon as they received my inquiry, they extended an invite to visit their location and shop thru available remnants. When I arrived, I was personally escorted around the premises and shown a variety of options (multiple stone types and color variations.) I had lots of questions-- all of which were answered thoroughly and kindly. Even though I arrived about 30 minutes before closing time (I received their invite while I was running errands & headed straight over), I never felt rushed or dismissed. My "little project" was treated with the utmost care & respect. This location also offered me a flat rate price for the project, so there were no hidden fees or complications regarding the stone I selected or my finishing parameters. I officially placed my order (stone selection and project specs) on Tuesday and was shocked to learn that it was ready for pick up that Friday. I just picked up the finished stonework today & could not be more pleased with the results! The order was completed to my exact specifications & finished with care. When I told them that I'd carry the piece to my car they insisted on taking it out for me. When first confronted, they claimed this was "standard practice" and suggested using a damp cloth to clean. After a couple exchanges, they later mentioned that we were supplied a "sample" slab which is why only one side is polished. We were not aware that we paid top dollar for a sample slab-only after it was installed. While craftsmanship was good, buyer beware of the exact finish you're getting.
