Happened upon this place today. It's in a very nondescript 1970s strip mall and you'd almost need to know someone to find it. This place isn't fancy, but it is well designed so it is possible to have private conversations. I had a taco salad and my friend had tacos and pupusas. Given we both basically licked the plate we'd say the food was pretty delicious. The service was also good and the vibe was happy with music and telenovelas playing in the background. We were the only two gringos in the place and I think given the political climate we are all living through there may have been some suspicion. That's too bad as we would have loved to talk to the manager about work experiences for our students who we support through our our community outreach. read more

Estancias has a family business vibe and has the mexican and salvadorean staples. They make solid tacos and pupusas but their greatest item is their torta cubana which has several meats and a home made spicy sauce. This has absolutely become our favorite local takeout! The pupusas are delicious, and the chorizo taco is my favorite! My husband has tried a majority of the dishes and has raved about every single one. Unlike me who clings to a satisfying chorizo taco when she can find one. We have never had an issue placing an order and picking our food within a reasonable time, staff is always friendly, and the food is reasonably priced . Estancias Restaurant looks like a hole in the wall, but the minute you enter the tantalizing scents will make your mouth water. This was my introduction to Salvadoran food. The pupusas were amazing, cooked just to the point where the bean and cheese oozed out, mmmm. The pork and cheese pupusa was tasty too. Both the steak and chicken tacos, topped with avocado, were delicious. The burrito was a delicious melding of rice, beans, vegetables, pico de gallo, Salvadoran sour cream, cheese, and lettuce. Service was friendly and attentive. The server brought tortilla chips and salsa when we arrived, took our order, brought out the food efficiently, and refilled the water. My favorite small restaurant. Been coming here for years. The staff has been here for a long time and cares about what they do. I have never had a single negative to ever say about this location. Prices keep going up with inflation but are still super reasonable. Food is great and home cooked. It's not super well known but a place I consistently send friends and family. The restaurant we agreed to meet at was closed so we decided to find a nearby alternative spot, we ended up here at Estancias, I am SO PLEASED we did! The food was amazing we tried 5 different dishes and ALL were exquisite. It is a family-owned-style restaurant. The kitchen is run by all-female staff and everyone is warm and welcoming. My husband works in VA and I came to visit him for a dinner date. I wanted Salvadoran food (I'm from there) and Estancias did NOT disappoint! We ordered the Cuban torta, plátanos fritos and 3 pupusas de frijol con queso, everything was so savory and delicious. We also got an horchata (tasted similar to how my mom makes it so it was bomb) and an empanada de plátano. So this is pretty much my first time here. My girlfriend ordered here recently but I really didn't pay attention except that the food was good. This time I paid attention and the food is still quite good. I went back and got something for myself... carne asada to go to be specific. The steak was cooked and seasoned perfectly and topped with cooked onions. It was served over a bed of Spanish rice. Also provided was a large piece of juicy, fresh lime to squeeze on the meat. Along with it I got a small cooked chili which was spicy.... a mild spicy. I also got a salad that consisted of a couple of slices of fresh avocado, a few radish slices, couple of tomato slices, and a pile of lettuce. All of this for about $14 including tax for the meal. Wow, we were blown away! We stopped by this place on a whim, and we're so glad we did! The taco salad, a usual favorite, was literally the best my wife has ever had. The jalapeño pupusa was full of cheese and the flavor blend was outstanding. At one point, we were raving about how good the tortillas were, just by themselves! And the experimental ordering of a cantaloupe smoothie - honestly just done as a joke - gave us the most ridiculously delicious drink ever.
