I hadn't seen that before and for a moment worried I was in the wrong place instead of the train station, but nope, they just take precautions here.

From the airport, you'll take Line 8 to Nuevos Ministerios and then connect to wherever you needed to go. Line 8 is one of the few where the announcements are also in English. The connections were quite easy to maneuver in my opinion. For me, I took Line 10 to Santo Domingo and then Line 3 to Callao and ended up near my hotel. Very seamless process. A tad bit of walking underground, but that is to be expected outside the US. I found that the 10 trip is the most efficient deal for a 3 day stay. The signage is pretty clear in my opinion. I think it's easy for any foreigner to manage manuevering, granted they've had some experience navigating the metros in their local cities.

More leg room,quiet coach car,comfortable seating and hot meal with beverage service all included. How the hell does a RENFE employee not know how to use the official RENFE app? To make things even worse, not a single person at the information desk spoke proper English. This is an international railway company serving thousands of tourists every day. It's absolutely embarrassing and. Because nobody was able or willing to help us, we had to cancel the tickets we had already booked. And guess what? RENFE only refunded HALF of our money. We ended up losing around €40 for absolutely no fucking reason except your incompetence. This company is a complete joke. Terrible customer service, terrible support, terrible refund policy. If you can avoid RENFE, do it. Absolutely disgraceful. ABSOLUTE SHIT!!!

This place was confusing and there are no seats to wait for your bus so we sat on the floor of the…read moreterminal. However, as a pilgrim you end up doing this alot. You can easily catch the wrong bus if you don't double and triple check. I mean I know there's a language barrier but even the drivers almost made us go on the wrong bus. We bought our tickets online but they really don't check. We were trying to go to Astorga and boarded the bus number which was on our ticket. Then the driver made us go on a different bus. The actual bus is comfy with foot rests. There is a restroom on the bus but it's nasty I was told. Similar to one on a catamaran, pee all over the floor. So we just held it until the first rest stop. We had planned to catch a train but it sold out. The bus was pretty cheap though $30 and only an hour longer. The bathroom was nasty and there was no toilet paper.

This bus station went through a really great renovation. Last time I was here was about 4 years…read moreago. Back there you needed to wait for the buses outside, it was unclean and it seemed insecure. Now it has a great waiting area with some small shops and places to eat. It now has clean bathrooms, is well lit and has really good signs. It also now has escalators. Very surprised in a positive way of how much improvement has been done.

Sol is a major transfer point in this part of Madrid, with connections to lines 1, 2 and 3 on the…read moreMetro but also lines C-3 and C-4 of the Cercanias. It is in tariff zone A. For such an old station (the first line opened in 1919), it is surprisingly easy to navigate with lots of stairs and lots of signs. There are four entrances to the station, which isn't nearly enough considering that the above ground Plaza de Sol is quite the hangout and a very busy part of Madrid. On Line 1, it is between Tirso de Molina and Gran Via, on Line 2, between Ópera and Sevilla, and on Line 3, between Callao and Lavapiés. There is a lift to the ticketing level and another to street level where there are stops for a handful of bus lines.
