Not bad. 107.6? Pretty good. 106.9? I'm there! Thus, I stopped at this Shell station. It was the cheapest price I had seen, with the 7-Eleven store across the street jumping into the price war. I pulled in and found a free pump. Business was brisk. I normally don't pull into a Shell station, but it was nice to change things up. I got to exercise my Air Miles card. Unfortunately, the pump didn't recognize this card when I swiped it. However, I love that this pump allows you to enter your Air Miles number manually, rather than missing out on points. Nice job! What slightly dampened my experience was a Shell employee coming over to customers with his clipboard and asking whether they want to sign up for a credit card. I realize that it's the perfect opportunity to bug folks, but I like pumping gas without talking to people. I also don't want more debt with another credit card! This station is clean and the gas pump itself is user-friendly. (105)

Today, I ran a number of errands. I lost track of time and had lunch just before 3 pm. I headed to Applebee's for lunch. I looked at the price for regular at this Petro-Canada and it was 94.2 cents a litre, which is pretty good. I made a mental note to fill up before heading home. I finished lunch at around 4:15 pm and headed over to fill my car up with gas. The price? 89.4. When it doubt, wait it out. There are plenty of pumps at this station. However, considering how cheap this price was, it got busy fast. I was fortunate to grab a free gas pump, fill, and pay. It got incredibly busy with cars lined up everywhere that I couldn't take a photo of anything. I started up my car and headed out before I got stuck in the crazy maze of drivers waiting to fill their cards up. The windshield wiper solution area is surprisingly clean and the fluid is topped up to the brim. I used it to clean my back windshield and backup camera as the winter thaw begins. I have always liked visiting this gas station. Old habits are hard to break. (58)

This gas station looked huge from across the street. There was no one pumping gas. Well, I was about to change that situation! I pulled in and parked next to a pump closest to the convenience store. There was a woman behind the counter. I swear that I bring business to places. When I got out of my car with my Petro-Points, 407 ETR discount, and credit cards, there were four other cars at gas pumps. I paid at the gas pump. It was seamless. I started pumping gas into my car. I like that there was that silver stand where you can continue pumping gas hands-free. I went to use the squeegee on my back windshield. After my fuel transaction had completed, I wanted to check the convenience store out. It's small, but it has everything that I enjoy looking at. Candy? Check. Phone accessories? Yes. Popsicles? Definitely. Pop? For sure! I noticed clear Mountain Dew in the beverages fridge. I'm not a Mountain Dew consumer. If you do want a caffeine hit, this drink is for you. Instead, I got two bottles of cherry Diet Coke. I like a good deal and I needed a drink. The woman was friendly. She asked if I wanted a bag. Nah, I was good. I got more Petro-Points with this transaction. I'm glad that I dropped by. The gas station is clean. I'm not normally in this part of Ajax. The bathroom is bigger, cleaner and better ventilated than those of many restaurants & coffee shops in the are never mind other gas stations. Also I have never once encountered a grumpy, unprofessional or shiftless attendant at this location which can't be said for many gas stations. There are other stations in the Richmond Hill area which compete with price on & off - the corners of Bayview/MajorMac and Bayview/16th have been "hot" in recent weeks, the Shell at Leslie/16th used to be the cheapest but it's been inconsistent ever since that big overnight 10 cent jump earlier in the year. However it is only at these Yonge & Weldrick pumps that you can always count on the markdown. Why not 5 stars? Like most stations the last 10 years, the Air Pump is not maintained. And just last week during the -11c night the windshield cleaning stations froze solid because they failed to replace the diluted mix with 100% winter fluid. I consider most gas stations worthy of only 2 stars, NONE of them meet my expectations for an industry with a license to print money. They also carry cheap, effective old school auto glass products Rain Vision & NeverFog which a lot of big gas stations don't sell anymore. Washroom is very basic but never nasty and it's always open. Note that at last check, Ultramar is not listed as a Top Tier gas seller. I'm not sure if this is due to not meeting the voluntary Top Tier standard for purity & detergency - though more likely not wanting to pay the costs of participating. Either way, just to be on the safe side I wouldn't suggest using Ultramar on a frequent basis if you have BMW, Audi or VW or any recent car with Direct Inection and/or Turbo technology (( though ironically you WOULD come here to get top-off oil for those cars because they sell synthetic Total in a wide range of grades you wouldn't find at most gas stations...)) Also note this station is built on somewhat of a raised mound, the driveways have a steep angle which can make for rough entry/exit for cars with regular or lower round clearance. If you're not driving a SUV or truck, you should take the entrances slowly & diagonally.

This particular station has a large capacity so you're almost never likely to wait for a pump, it has a good deal of driveway space around the pumps, and people going to the store have places to park with sufficient space away from entering/exiting traffic (unlike the poorly designed sibling on the Bayview/Hitech side). The vast majority of operators in the GTA hold the line of the same price so I think it's worthwhile for the consumer to keep a list of locations who offer small discounts from their own margins and reward them with increased sale volume whenever it practical to do so. Luckily, the option to pay inside the store was available, so I did just that. I was at pump 8. When I was done, I walked into the convenience store. It's huge. It was nice to browse a bit before paying. There's a mini Country Style area. You can get coffee, slushies, hot chocolate, and more. There was a sign that said donuts, but I didn't see any in the display case. I love crullers from Country Style. Sadly, I didn't see any in the display case. I got a helpful man at the payment area.
