Dr Laura Esserman is a saint in my families eyes !!! She is one of the most caring, compassionate, and intelligent Doctors I have ever met !! (I am an RN and work with many Doctors) She thinks out of the box and treats her patients as individuals with the appropriate plans of care. She is innovative, heading up the latest clinical trials, and always on top of the best evidence based practices for her patients best outcomes.
I had the pleasure of meeting Dr Esserman 14 months ago when my 28 year old Daughter was diagnosed with stage 2 Invasive Ductal Breast Cancer with positive lymph nodes. As you can imagine, my daughter, family and I walked into UCSF grief stricken and confused. Dr Esserman came in and introduced herself and listened to my Daughter (also an RN) explain here last 3 days upon her breast cancer diagnoses. As Dr Esserman started explaining what was going on in my daughters body and how the cancer responses to treatment through chemo, surgery, etc ...... It was like she turned on a light, removing the fear and desperation and giving us Hope, Faith, and a new outlook !!! Fourteen months later, my daughter is now cancer free ;). She went through 6 months of chemo, double mastectomy and is now enjoying her 2 year old son, husband and living life with a new joy and purpose.
At the time of diagnoses, my daughter was tested and came back positive for BRCA 1.
I also came back BRCA 1 positive after my daughters testing. I decided to have a bi-lateral prophylactic mastectomy and Oophorectomy. Dr Esserman also preformed my mastectomy with a great outcome.
As I look back on my Daughters Journey through Breast Cancer, life is so much richer and meaningful, not taking anything for granted, life is truly a gift. We are forever grateful to Dr Esserman and her team for playing a big part in this whole journey !!
We have already referred other women to Dr Esserman with Breast Cancer, and they too have had great outcomes.
I highly recommend Dr Esserman and her team. read more
