I've been Dr W's patient for many years. She became our family doctor when my son was 6, and he is 21 now. She is a very good doctor and helped us both a lot. She is at One Medical in Concord now, the location is more convenient than it was before. Regarding her looking into her computer - she takes notes ad hoc while the patient is describing his/her condition for a record and future reference. Don't you do the same when having a meeting with your customers? I also referred my sister to discuss with her her health concerns and my sister was pleased with the conversation. I have been a patient of Dr Wang's for 3 years, finding her office after a friend gave me glowing reports of Dr. O'Reagan, but she wasn't accepting new patients. I have been disappointed with Dr. Wang over and over again, and after my last appt. yesterday, I will be finding another doctor. Dr Wang is nice, in a fake, plasticky way. But she is extremely unhelpful and has never offered any constructive solutions to my medical issues. When I ask her questions, she answers in the shortest way possible, but never elaborates on anything. It's like pulling teeth, getting information out of her! She is not interested in figuring out what the problem might be, and three times she has just basically left me sitting there, stunned by her coldness and extreme lack of helpfulness. I have been seeing Dr. Wang for two years, and that really means only two or three times in two years, including my annual physical. Dr. Wang is nice and up-to-date and is quick to know what prescription might fix your issue. The bummer is when I go, I feel rushed--like I have to tell her all of my concerns in 15 minutes or less. The office staff have messed up my billing, and billing with the lab so that I have had to follow up with them separately to clear up the charges. I have also had a hard time getting prescription refills or even an advice nurse to call me back after leaving multiple messages. Yesterday I called again (because I need asthma medicine) and heard a message that the office now has shorter hours on Wednesday and Friday. Argh. I was so fed up that I Yelped and found a new doctor! I got an appointment quickly and am seeing her next week. Whoo hoo! read more

Dr. Wang has been my PCP for almost 3 years now and am a bit shocked to read all the negative reviews on Yelp. Unfortunately what lead me here is that I'm not happy with having her as my doctor. For the most part I can only confirm most of what's already been said in the other reviews. Dr. Wang is a very friendly and kind person, cheerful and very assiduous (assiduous, not thorough). She is fast at referring to specialists and writing prescriptions, which is OK if that's all you need from a doctor. She is glued to her laptop and focuses more on typing up her notes than thoroughly examining her patient. Her diagnosis sometimes fell like a "shot from the hip" rather than something she really though about. I'm not getting a sense that Dr. Wang is experienced enough to be flying solo already. I'm very glad I read these reviews. I'll be switching to a different doctor today. read more

I just saw Dr. Wang for the first time. She is a breath of fresh air compared to my last PCP. She was very sweet, made great eye contact, and seemed to listen well. I was glad she typed all of my responses in, instead of waiting until after and possibly forgetting. I like that the office is semi-updated, and the equipment is digital. Also the weighing and height is done in the exam room and not hallway where everyone can see. They do offer coffee in the waiting room, which was a mistake for me because my temp and blood pressure was high because of it. But I still like they offer it. As for the late/no show/cancellation fee other people are upset about, I signed a piece of paper acknowledging I would be charged $30-100 for the inconvenience. So, at least I am the one to blame if I get a late charge. read more

I've known Dr. Wang for many years, and she is far and away one of the best doctors in one of the best-staffed offices I've been to. I'm pretty touchy about doctors--having chronic pain while being female is not a recipe for getting taken seriously--and Dr. Wang makes me feel comfortable and listened to. She works with me on different treatment plans and referrals, and she and her staff are excellent at using their online messaging system (I prefer email!) and taking care of paperwork efficiently. Dr. Wang is also entirely respectful of how I feel about procedures and not in the least boundary-pushing, which I so appreciate. I like to do my own research online and try a variety of therapies, and Dr. Wang will tell me what she knows and add her own advice about them. She doesn't ever have that "I'm the doctor so I know best" vibe. She's really, really cool, and I'm so glad she's my doctor. read more

So far I have a had a positive experience with Dr. Wang. The nice thing is the clinic accepts online messages to schedule appointments. The thing I respect about her is that she had read my note beforehand and during the appointment she gave me the right recommendations (i.e. prescription and advice). This is a very busy clinic and I usually I have limited time to get to the clinic, and because of that I really appreciate that the clinic staff and Dr Wang did everything within the scheduled time. Some of the recommendations I would like to see if we can get email replies. Usually RelayHealth is good to schedule online appointments but not to ask general questions. Sometimes if I just need to get a recommendation over the counter medicine than it would be nice to have an online messaging feature where the Doctor can recommend the best medicine. read more

I just saw Dr. Wang for the first time this morning. I had an amazing experience from start-to-finish! First of all, I walked in and was greeted warmly by the staff. Then I helped myself to the complimentary coffee which was delicious. I think the assistant took me back in less than 5 minutes and I saw the doctor in less than 10 minutes. No wait at a doctor's office gets many extra points in my book! I was supposed to have a very "general" first appointment, but after telling Dr. Wang my hopes and concerns, she immediately fit me in for a more extensive visit. She was straightforward and to the point which I always appreciate. At the same time, she was warm, friendly, and accomplished all I hoped for (and then some!). I was out of there quickly, and able to get to work with no problem. This was a wonderful experience and I look forward to seeing Dr. Wang again as my PMD! read more

So shocked by some of these negative comments! 1. I have been with Dr Wang for about 3 years, yes she is on the laptop typing but listening as well...this is called multi-tasking. I have 3 kids and take them to their appointments I have noticed most all doctors do the same thing. Yes, they do! I go to many different specialist for some orthopedic issues I have from an accident and it's a computer world now, they need to document everything you tell them. Do you think she is browsing the web? Geese's some people there is no pleasing. 2. If you miss an appointment you should have to pay, be a good citizen and don't impact everyone else's schedule because you're flakey. 3. I have never felt rushed and if you do then slow it down write down some topics that you want to cover during the visit. 4. The office staff is fine, they are busy and just facilitating. I find it hard to believe that a 70 yr old has never seen such an "incompetent staff". About 18 months ago my doctor of roughly 10 years left the WCMG and my insurance sent me a new card with a new GP name, Dr. Catherine Wang. I had to call and make an appointment for a prescription refill authorization (for a drug I was tapering off of that was prescribed for convulsive vomiting and nausea during a 6 month drug treatment that had ended). From the start of the appointment, I felt rushed and uncomfortable with the demeanor of this new doctor sitting across from me. She refused to supply any refills to continue any tapering at all. Instead of helping me, Dr. Wang referred me to a "Behavioral Health Center", which turned out to be an inpatient drug abuse center, for all further prescriptions/treatment. I got upset. I couldn't understand why I couldn't get my refills and continue. I was sure that she just didn't understand the situation correctly, having never seen me before, and not understanding my medical history. Before even 10 minutes passed, I could tell she just wasn't listening. It seemed clear, but so crazy to me, that she had no interest in helping me, she just wanted me out of there. This practice is known for rushed visits, but this took the cake. The appt. ended with Dr. Wang telling me to find a new doctor, and a new practice, too. I felt traumatized by this new doctor's lack of help, compassion, and humaneness. I've never been treated so rudely in a medical office before. I did call the people she referred me to, the "Behavioral Health Center", and they told me they were an inpatient facility and that I didn't belong there. They explained their inpatient drug rehab place was not meant for the type of "tapering off" of the drug that I was, but designed more for hard-core drug addicts (heroin, opiates, alcohol, etc.), and the Behavioral Health Center person on the phone said to me "I don't understand why you can't continue the slow taper you're doing with your regular GP." Exactly. When I called to see if I was, in fact, banned from seeing any of the other doctors at the WCMG practice (as Dr. Wang suggested when she told me to "find a new practice"), I asked to speak to The WCMG office manager whom I was told was Nicole D. Nicole D. had the receptionist tell me that no doctor at the practice could help me. I was very lucky, my husband's doctor had no problem taking me on in a timely manner and supplying the prescriptions to continue a safe tapering off of the drug, which was of the utmost importance, as it is well known that stopping this drug too quickly causes seizures, and can even be fatal. I have completed the taper, no thanks to Dr. Wang. And I'll add - I carry this bad experience into every new doctor's office, so, thanks for the new phobia, Dr. Wang. read more

Dr. Wang is nice enough, and seems knowledgeable, but I ALWAYS seem rushed when i visit. She spends most of my visit typing on her laptop, which I've never had a Dr. do. Also, she is quick to just write Rx's without looking into causes or possible cures for issues. I told her I had migraines and she wrote me a prescription without discussing my symptoms, doing an exam or discovering possible causes. (Turns out the birth control she prescribed was causing them!) Her staff is rude and unhelpful. I've had to wait on hold for 20 minutes to book an appointment! Forget about getting Rx or billing issues solved. For the record, I ADORE Dr. Wang. I've been with her for about 10 years now, and my husband is also a former patient. (Yes, former.) She listens when you talk, and is a very good doctor. That's why I've stayed with her for so long. But I just can't deal with the front office anymore. They hang up on you. Expect 10-minute holds as a norm. And they'll very clearly spell out when your next appointment is over the phone, but will then either fail to enter it into their system, or will book it on a different day. Don't ask for a referral, because they'll give you someone either out of network or not taking new patients, if they extend themselves that far. Dealing with them has become far too troublesome and time consuming, so unfortunately, I now have to find a new primary care doctor. read more

I was a patient of Dr. Wang's until I decided to find someone else. She is pleasant, but fast. I never saw her for more than 15 minutes per visit. I decided to leave her when I recieved a $100 no-show fee from her staff. This annoyed me as I felt pressured to book the appointment in the first place in order to recieve a refill, and then was told by her staff to come in after I tried to reschedule. I arrived late, as I explained to her staff I would, and she wouldn't see me and then sent me a bill for $100. I understand that insurance companies don't reimburse as much as they should, but I was turned off by such an exorbant fee. I would have happily paid my co-pay, but I felt the $100 was punitive. read more

Wow! I didn't realize there were so many others with the same complaints. I came to this site to see if it was just me... I haven't seen Dr. Wang in a few years and was thinking about changing primary docs. Partyly because of the distance, inconvenience, and staff, but mostly because I feel like I've got about 3 minutes to explain my symptoms and get out the door. She's nice enough, but I just don't think she's had enough experience to be confident enough to work on her laptop while she's supposedly taking care of me. I also got a $50 bill for an office procedure that I shouldn't have been charged for. It took me two years and several letters before they stopped hounding me and reversed it. Dr Wang is great and has always solved any issues I have had. Even though I rarely need to be seen she always remembers me and picks up conversation right where we left off during a prior visit. My complaints would be parking at her office, it sucks and whoever her biller is she is imposible to deal with and very frustrating. read more

Warning unprofessional front desk staff!!! This review reflects the front desk staff; I never made to to see the doctor. I have seen Dr Wang several times a couple years ago. Because of my travel, I don't see her on a regular basis. Basically I have an insurance that indicates I have a dual domestic and international coverage. The front desk woman took a look at the card and flatly asked that I pay cash up front and re-bill my insurance myself. She never took a breath to listen to me or took a minute to call the 1800 as I asked her and as I offered her to call myself to verify eligibility and get direction on how to bill. If she listens what I tried to explain that the healthplan is a Cigna PPO. What a waste of my time. Unprofessional intake staff. Wouldn't recommend to anyone. read more

As a health care provider myself, I am selective as to who I choose to care for my family and me. I've been in Dr. Wang's office now for almost 5 years and I have always had pleasant experiences. Dr. Wang is honest with her assessments, she is tactful when offering suggestions. If I have anything serious going on I am able to see her as needed. Those with concerns about the brevity in their exams need to take a closer look at the state of health insurances/managed health care and not at the physician. read more

If I could, I'd rather give no star. I was leaving the country quite soon, and called them twice for fixing the prescription so that I can have some medicines for buffering time before I visit next doctor. I visited the nearest pharmacy and they told me nothing has changed before I leave the country, I feel very disappointed and surprised their efficiency of working. I saw her in urgent care in Orinda. She is able to diagnose the problem and she adjusted my asthma medication appropriately at the right levels and listened to the side effects as well and per that made the appropriate changes to medication. That was very critical as the other doctors did not do that but just dispense medication. She is a good doctor and quite astute. read more

My family and I had been patients of doctor Catherine Wang. She is not the best doctor that you can find, She is very rushing, and she looks more to her computer that to her patients. Even more, she looks like money are the first thing that she takes into consideration. For instance, she claimed a $100 fee for a missed appointment. At the time of the hypothetical missed appointment, I was in Europe, and that was the only reason because she believed that I haven't any appointment with her office. Another time I missed an appointment because of an emergency( I was leaving home when my 6-week old puppy started to vomiting and shaking). I called the doctor office and I explained the reason because I had to canceled my appointment . They said to me that they were sorry for my problem,but I had anyway to pay $100 for the fee because I did not call 24 hours before .Do you know someone who can predict an emergency 24 hours before ?. Wow! Ditto! She has been our Dr. for 4 years-up until very recently. She is always rushed, glued to her computer and very quick to write a script. I find this ironic because her former practice was called a "Wellness Center" that supposedly focused on a "holistic" approach. She should have gone into psychiatry where she could focus on medication management: see the client for 5 minutes and pull out the prescription pad-these are her strengths. I threw out my back after giving birth and she suggested that it might be helpful for me to loose some of the baby weight-duh! Then, the next time I went in I had lost 10lbs and she made no comment or attempt at encouragement. She refused to give me the name of a specialist when I threw out my back; even though I have a PPO and don't need a referral. Also, my she gave my husband the runaround a few weeks before his 40th birthday. He wanted to get a PSA test, which is typically recommended when there is a family history of prostate problems, which there is. Anyhow, she told him he needed to wait until he was 40, even though he was a few weeks from his 40th b-day. She told him he would need to make another appointment! To add insult to injury, the whole office experience is THE WORST!! They suck! Rude & incompetent. Good luck EVER getting a prescription filled. We just switched doctors. Yeah! Dr. Catherine Wang followed me into my office today and accused me of hitting her car yesterday with my passenger door. I attempted to explain to her that she was accusing me in error, but she refused to listen stating she was going to call the authorities. She claimed that a scratch on my passenger side door (that my 6 year old daughter created almost a year ago) proved that I am the one who dented her car. My car isn't dented at all. Not only do I park at minimum 10 stalls away from her on a daily basis and don't carpool (therefore wouldn't have any reason to open my passenger door), she admittedly did not see who hit her car. Dr. Wang stereotyped me based on my appearance and race. After multiple people came to my defense and informed her that I actually NEVER park where she accused me of parking, she finally backed down after saying I was "Bull Shitting". She proved that stereotyping and racism still exists. Following an individual and forcing them to leave their place of employment in such an intimidating manner based on an assumption, and threatening to get them fired and arrested is unacceptable behavior, especially for a doctor. I have never been more uncomfortable in my life. She will be hearing from my attorney. read more

I used to be a patient of Dr. Wang's when I lived in Walnut Creek (circa 2008-2009). I went to her because she was recommended by a friend. The first thing I didn't like right off the bat was that, to become a patient, you have to come in and fill out paperwork--and they charge you for an "office visit." You don't even get to see the doctor at all.... I've NEVER experienced this with any other doctor's office. I tried to argue it and ask if I could fill out the paperwork and schedule my wellness visit at the same time, but they said I couldn't. I said, "How is this an 'office visit' if I'm not seeing the doctor?" The told me, "You're coming into the office. That's just our policy. And you have to be established before you can see the doctor." So, I had to take time off work, come in, and pay my $25 insurance copay just to "establish" myself as a patient by filling out paperwork for 15 minutes. My wellness visit had to be scheduled for a later date. When I first met Dr. Wang, the first thing I noticed was that she did type up all notes on her laptop. She would type while we talked. Although some reviewers have viewed this as negative, I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing. In fact, I do like that she kept detailed notes for my record. However, she does talk fast and move at a quick pace, and I'm not sure how thorough she was.... She did make sure she recorded all of my family history, etc., but there weren't many questions of "how are you feeling these days?" and that sort of thing. She seems efficient and to the point. She made sure I was up-to-date with all of my vaccines. She didn't really ask for my medical record. I told her I had gotten some vaccines before starting college (in 2005, less than three years prior), but she said it wouldn't hurt to have them done again. For example, I know the tetanus shot is good for ten years, but she said it was okay to have another one just in case. She also recommended the Gardasil vaccine, so at least she was staying current with modern medicine. One time I saw her for my routine wellness visit and PAP test, and she recommended that I get an STD screening. She said that although I had low risk factors (I had been in a committed relationship with my boyfriend for about two years), she said she still recommended that young women in their 20's get an STD panel done occasionally. Since I was there for my wellness visit (which insurance covers 100%), I asked her if insurance would cover this. She said that she didn't know the details of my insurance, but they may or may not cover it. "Okay, how much is it?" I asked. I wanted to be prepared in case I had to pay out-of-pocket. "I have no idea," she replied. She didn't even offer to help find out or ask her staff. We were sitting there in her office, and I had to make a spur-of-the-moment decision as to whether or not to have the panel done. Looking back, I always felt "rushed" with her. I mean, I didn't want to have to come back and pay another $25 copay if I decided to have the panel done (plus she was always booked up months in advance).... I figured something as routine as an STD screening should be relatively inexpensive, right? She was impatiently awaiting me to make a decision. Looking back on it now, I should have insisted that she wait ten minutes while I made a phone call to my insurance company. But instead, I figured I should be responsible about my health and have it done, and I told her to go ahead if that's what she recommended. Well, a few weeks later, I got a lab bill for almost $300!!! I almost cried. And to make matters worse, I found out the lab test ONLY tested for chlamydia and gonorrhea--that's it. Dr. Wang had referred to this as an "STD panel," so of course I thought this would test for almost everything--certainly not just two STDs. I called Dr. Wang's office to explain the situation and complained that this shouldn't have happened. It was already clear that I had no risk factors, and Dr. Wang should have known the ballpark lab costs before recommending something like this. I basically paid $300 to find out what I already knew! I could have gone to Planned Parenthood and gotten tested for all STDs for free. It was a total waste of money, and I felt horrible about it. I felt duped. Granted, doctors don't need to know the details of each patient's insurance, but there should be a willingness to coordinate or at least a basic knowledge of procedure costs. Needless to say, I wasn't very happy, and I had less trust in her after that. Besides the routine basics, she did little to help promote my health. After I moved to Palo Alto and got a new doctor, I realized what primary care doctors are supposed to do. The first thing they did was run tests and get all my stats. In fact, a full panel blood test revealed that I was hypothyroid, and I am now being treated properly for it. Dr. Wang had neglected to ever give me a basic blood test just to establish my baseline. read more

I can't simply leave a message or even an e-mail after hours, they can't seem to get a very simple prescription refill to her for signature in a timely manner and the general inconvenience of this all has been frustrating me to look for somewhere else that would like my business. Dr. Cathy Wang is amazing! When my cousin was taken into the emergency room to have an emergency surgery, and then was in the recovery room, she looked pale and was getting paler by the hour. We told the nurses to alert the surgeon and hospitalist, who said they did, and that everything was fine. We contacted Dr. Wang, who immediately came in to see my cousin, raised tarnation with the staff and demanded that the hospitalist come to see her when we had run into roadblocks at every turn, and got my cousin's blood levels checked, stat. Turned out that she was bleeding out, due to a problem in the emergency surgery. When the blood test came back, her blood levels were way below when you ordinarily transfuse. My cousin was immediately whisked off to another emergency surgery to fix the first one and had several transfusions of blood pumped through her. It was a scary ordeal, but Dr. Wang handled it professionally and saved my cousin's life. All the other doctors and nurses did not care and put us off. We are so thankful Dr. Wang is such an advocate and will get things done and get the right care for the patient. She is smart, she is bright, she listens to you, she is determined and a fighter. I am of the opinion that the missed appointment policy is awesome. As someone who is on time for my checkups it is great that I am seen promptly and people who don't take their health seriously have to pay of it. She may work quickly, but if you are proactive about your health, you get all your answers all that much faster. I haven't had problems with the staff but neither have I had a positive experience. I had my first visit with Dr. Catherine Wang at Walnut Creek Medical Group. The office staff was fantastic! They were friendly, helpful with my insurance concerns. The office was clean, well organized with refreshments served in the waiting room. I was called back within ten minutes of when I checked in by a friendly medical assistant. Dr. Wang was very outgoing, very concerned about my chronic health problems, had many answers to all my concerns. I needed to make a follow up appointment for a few weeks and I was able to make this on line! I relocated to East Bay recently, and I picked Dr. Wang randomly from the list of Providers within my insurance. Dr. Wang was nice and seemed knowledgable, when I first met her... untill I faced a really serious health problem. When I was diagnosed with severe bacterial infection as a complication from the use of antibiotics, Dr. Wang was little of help. She allots little time for problem discussion, is quick with judgements and is not interested in client's perspective and input. I also had an imprassion that she is narrow minded, rigid, going "by the book". It is something you would expect from a student at the school of medicine, but not from a certified physician. i have been a patient of Dr Wang's for probably 10 or 12 years with a brief "break in the action" when my insurance changed. I've only known her to be efficient, skilled and thoughtful. i have a somewhat complicated health profile which requires some specialists and some careful coordination of meds, etc. She's always willing to refer me on to a specialist if the need arises and never has let ego become involved in any medical decisions made...quite unlike what I have nearly come to expect in other doctors' practices. i had never given her use of her laptop a second thought because I was confident she heard every word I said and replied appropriately. Far better to know that all pertinent details were being documented than to wonder. So unless one is willing to have a not-so-private office visit being witnessed by a medical assistant who is taking notes, I just see no other way it could be accurately recorded short of a video recording. So I just always saw the laptop as an efficient manner of running a modern and thorough medical practice. The responsibility fell on Dr Wang last year to read and assess a breast biopsy report and to break the news to me that I had breast cancer. I truly believe that experience was nearly as painful for her as it was for me as she had taken the time to develop a one-on-one relationship with me over the years as not only her patient but as a real person. I have always found her office staff to be helpful and to quickly expedite rx refills for me and to pass messages to the doctor if I had a concern about something. The office runs like a well-oiled machine in an efficient and timely manner and I'm always greeted with a smile when I check in for an appointment. In brief, Dr Wang is a bright medical practitioner and I will forever be grateful to her and to her office staff for their kind and compassionate manner. read more
